Christmas in the Pines!

Guest: Julia D (Lebanon, TN)
Date of Stay: 12/23/11 Review Submitted: 01/11/12

Our family spent Christmas at Huckleberry's Hideout. It is a luxury log home! The home is situated high on top of a hill with total and rustic privacy. Even though it was Christmas, the weather was nice so we enjoyed sitting in the rockers on the spacious porch watching for birds and wildlife to visit in the pine trees surrounding the property. We didn't see any wild animals during our three night stay but did get a few visits from a well-fed yellow lab who thought he was part of our family. He was wearing a collar otherwise I would've tried to take him home with us. We were able to take our two six year old goldendoodles and we enjoyed taking them for a couple of long walks down the drive to the community roads that branch at the bottom of the hill. Also, we had no problem at all with our Jeep Liberty rear-wheel drive (it is not a four-wheel drive) going up and down the driveway numerous times. Take big terry cloth robes to hang on the outside wall's towel branch for enjoying the steaming hot tub, which was wonderful even with the nipping cold during the evenings we were there. We enjoyed beautiful leather furnishings in the great room, a gas fire and an open loft with a pool table. Tina had a Christmas tree in the great room and little holiday decorations throughout the house which reminded us that someone loves this home. We had a very short drive into Bryson City to look around on Christmas Eve day and we walked around in the Deep Creek Recreation Area of the Smokies. Dogs are not allowed on the trails to the waterfalls at Deep Creek - only in the main road area but there is plenty of road along the creek to stroll and enjoy the tranquility of the park if you take your critters with you. The kitchen is very modern and has everything you could need in a home away from home. The bathrooms with huge showers are fantastic and both downstairs bedrooms are very spacious yet feel cozy. Two futons are in the open loft along with a half bath, so plenty of room for people! We loved this "cabin" (it is a spacious home) and Tina was fantastic to work with as we made arrangements for our mini Christmas sanity saver escape. A great place to take a deep breath and let it out slowly!!!! I can just close my eyes now and imagine how beautiful this vista would be if snow were slowly falling and I was sitting in the hot tub, ahhhhh I need to go back for a long winter escape :o)

Great cabin!

Guest: Bball (Cornelius, NC)
Date of Stay: 09/11/10 Review Submitted: 10/03/10

Great cabin! Has everything you need and more! Close to NOC and right outside wonderful park. We went with our 10 & 12 year old boys and dog. You definitely need a 4 wheel drive to get up the driveway though. We enjoyed the firepit, hot tub and pool table - it was just right!

Owner response:So glad your family had a good time! Hope to see you again in the mountains. Sorry you thought the driveway was tough, but 4 wheel drive is not necessary. All you need is a good steady foot and you will ease your way to the top. I know it's tempting to stop in the middle and admire the views, but they're even more spectacular at the top! My cleaning lady drives a PT Cruiser and has no problems even though she is in a very low riding vehicle and she has no 4wd. See you soon.

Beautiful Escape

Guest: De La Fuente Family (Miami, FL)
Date of Stay: 07/12/10 Review Submitted: 08/30/10

This is a very beautiful property and was the perfect escape for our family. It's VERY private! The property sits high on a hill and is surrounded by trees. The area has beautiful horse pastures as you approach the cabin. It's just a few short minutes from Bryson City and we found a short cut to Deep Creek through the Smokey National Park. The cabin is well equipped with details, including warm throws for the couch, puzzles and games for the kids, a gas grill, HDTV, modern appliances, etc. The cabin does not have internet connection, and we had some difficulty with our cellphone reception (AT&T). As a result, we managed to completely disconnect and relax on our vacation! I would recommend white water rafting at NOC, tubing at Deep Creek, horseback riding by Fontana Lake, hiking at Deep Creek, and kayaking at NOC. I hope to go back again soon!! Thanks Tina!!

Owner response:Thanks so much Adriana, it was my pleasure working with you! Hope to hear from you again soon!
