When we arrived at check-in time, the place wasn't ready so we had to wait almost 2 more hours before we could get in. When we did get in, we found the 2 upstairs beds hadn't even been made, but since it was just two of us, it didn't matter. (but still...) Then we went to use the hot tub and found it was too dirty to even get into! The BBQ wouldn't lite, the WI-fi didn't work, the DVD player was broken... There were other issues but our main problem was getting a hold of the owners. They say "just give them a call" if we need anything, but after repeatedly calling, the communication was terrible. Their cell phone isn't even set up to receive messages! The cottage is really cute, but if the owners don't have time to manage the place, they should find someone that can. bottom line- You do not really have a view of the ocean from this cottage. ( the trail to the beach is just across the street.) There are lots of rental choices on the beautiful southern Oregon coast- I would pick a different one.

Owner response: I am sorry the cabin wasn't ready... AS I explained there was a mix up in the schedule. We let you know that the guests before you had not taken care of the cabin. We had the cabin and hot tub cleaned as soon as we could. Your response to the cleaning was "The cabin looks amazing". The internet was out of our control. You called for an extra night, which wasn't avil. I'm sorry you were unable to contact us as we were out of town during your stay and were unable to get cell access. I offered you a free night on your next stay. Again, we will try never to let this happen again. We hope you will give us another stay.... Laurie

Cozy Retreat

My husband and I stayed here for our 5 year wedding anniversary and absolutely loved it. The condo had everything we needed for a relaxing week on the ocean. Perfect for a couple looking to get away at a cozy location. We loved everything from walking the private beach and unwinding in the very private hot tub in the evenings. Owners were extremely friendly and had no problems getting a hold of them when needed. We hope to return again soon!!

Overall, we had a decent stay at the cottage by the sea. A few thoughts: Pros: Spacious, nicely appointed and decorated cottage; nice location with access to dog-friendly beach; peek-ocean view; comfy bed and couches; updated kitchen/bath; nice flat screen and DVD player; convenient parking for one car. Cons: Cottage was not entirely clean when we arrived due to obvious dust, human hair, and food particles on tables and couches; stove and inside of fridge were not clean; some cutlery still had food particles on them. Owner was difficult to reach before and during our stay. Didn't respond to our several emails or calls. No access to WIFI internet in cottage. Though no fault of the cottage owners, the office registration staff was extremely rude for no apparent reason other than us asking basic and polite questions, and this made parts of our stay unpleasant.

Recommended for: Age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Owner response: We are very sorry for the condition of the cabin. This will be addressed with the cleaning staff. We share the wifi with other cabins and the internet access is sometimes hard to access due to the mountains and coast. We are installing a wifi in our cabin this month. I'm sorry you were unable to contact us as we were out of town during your stay and were unable to get cell access. Wonderful, relaxing!

This lovely cottage was very relaxing for us, and our three teenage boys. We had a leak with the hot tub (one of the main reasons we chose the cottage) which was fixed in a timely manner. The beach was semi-private, with few people using it. We had lots of fun collecting mussels to eat, though clam digging was not as successful (not a good year, per the local shell fish collectors). It was a really fun vacation in a great location. Thank you!

This is the 3rd time we have stayed at Ken and Laurie's "Cottage By the Sea". With our hectic lives, we really need to disconnect and reconnect . The Cottage remodel was even more than we expected! This magic place is the key for us! Great medicine for a great get-away! We'll be back again for sure! Carl and Linda , Redding Ca.

Your remodeled cottage was very cozy, cute and comfortable. The beautiful decor made it a very inviting place to stay. My husband, our dog and I loved exploring the area during the day and relaxing by the fireplace at night. Soaking in the private hot tub under the stars made it extra special. (not the dog, of course!) Thank you for sharing your cottage, Laurie and Ken.

We really enjoyed our stay. The house is bright and clean. Great place for couples looking for an escape. Located near the CA border so Oregon and California sights are in easy reach. Right above a great walking beach.

My family and I had a great time over spring break at the "Cottage by the Sea" The owners are very nice and took good care that we enjoyed our stay. The cabins have everything you need for a nice stay on the beach.

Recommended for: Families with young children, pet owners, romantic getaway.

We were so lucky to find the Cottage by the Sea. We spent four nights at the cottage over Valentines Weekend and it was fabulous! Laurie graciously allowed us to push our reservation back a day due to illness and we arrived at the cottage and were so pleased at what we found. The cottage was spotless and had everything we needed. Laurie called to check that everything was up to our expectations and was so pleasant and helpful telling me about the other cottages. The cottage was very cozy and romantic and we couldn't have enjoyed ourselves any more. The access to the beach and view of the ocean was awesome! We will definitely go back to the cottage in the future when returning to the Brookings area. Barbara and John Reno, NV

We had a great time at the Cottage by the Sea. Our three children enjoyed the loft and the hot tub!!! The view of the beach was glorious! We had a very restful time and wished we could stay longer. Thank you!!!

What a lovely spot to enjoy the pleasures of the ocean and the surrounding communities of both Brookings/Harbor and Crescent City. The sandy beach and the mighty Pacific ocean are but a few steps away. We had a lovely time and had two friends join us for a few days making our stay even more enjoyable. Our little Cairn Terrier (Maxine) had a great time too! She stayed busy chasing the sea gulls and barking at the waves crashing on the shore, when she wasn't chasing her ball up and down the beach. It was a restful week for all! Waking up to the sounds and the smells of the ocean a few feet away was just delightful. Star gazing from the hot tub with a glass of wine was wonderful! Even better, was having a glass of wine sitting on the beach as the sun was setting in the West. That scene topped everything off perfectly. We had a wonderful time and we would recommend the Cottage By The Sea to anyone looking to spend some quality time in a delightful setting. Jim & Carol & Maxine Auburn, CA

We had a wonderful time at the 'Cottage by the Sea'. The owner's were very accurate in describing the cottage. Not only was beach access a few steps away, but the cottage itself was very comfortable and full of charm. Also, coming back from the beach to a steaming hot tub was a perfect! We had intended on visiting more areas on the coast during our stay, but the beach next to the cottage was so nice that we spent most of our time very close. I was extremely impressed with the the management of this property. After we arrived home we received a package in the mail containing some belongings we had accidentally left behind. I have never had that experience before! I have told all of my friends and family to consider this rental on their next vacation to the coast!

We spent 5 days at this cottage and it was truly delightful. The owners were very thoughful and represented the cottage accurately. We had a great time and are even considering moving to the area. If you love the beach, this is a great deal! We especially liked the idea of everything (except food of course) being provided. We will be back!

Ken and Laurie's "Cottage by the Sea" is a quiet relaxing place to spend a vacation. The beach is right there, and accessible by a gentle path. The dogs had a great time playing on the beach while we took it easy. The cottage is comfortable and Ken and Laurie have thought of everything.
