THE MOTHER OCEAN or Ke Moana Makuahine (in Hawaiian language) (tm) is a 5-STAR, private, grand estate on the Island of Molokai with 2 acres of lawn-covered, tree-laden park grounds, a private sandy beach and magnificent views from its shoreline of Lanai and the ocean beyond. It is comprised of a modern (main building built in 2003) plantation style estate that is "Old Hawaii" comfort at its best. The Mother Ocean was constructed to resemble a Hawaiian royal summer home. For those familiar, The Mother Ocean resembles the historical Allerton Estate home near Poipu Beach on the Island of Kauai. The Mother Ocean is for the exclusive use of the renting party, and is supervised by a pleasant and helpful caretaker who resides in a separate residence on the estate.
Located along the highway within a convenient 4.5 mile distance east of Kaunakakai on the beach in Kawela, this beautiful, secure and secluded beachfront estate is spacious and fully furnished with all of the modern comforts and amenities, such as a stone-rimmed swimming pool with adjustable "lap pool" jetstream and tropical waterfall, central air conditioning, satellite HD plasma screen televisions, high speed broadband computer Internet access, a printerand fax for guest use, gourmet kitchen, and premium quality traditional Hawaiian plantation home-style furnishings.
Truly unique features of The Mother Ocean (tm) include thrilling views of breaching humpback whales all day long in the Kalohi Channel between Lanai and Molokai Islands during the winter months (Dec-Apr) which can be seen in plain view from our lanai porch or from our beach chairs. For diving and snorkeling enthusiasts, Hawaii's longest fringing coral reef (30 mi. long) and all of the sea life living in and surrounding the reef, including Hawaiian green sea turtles, lies just 1/8 mi. from our beach.

We've had disbelieving inquiries about the sandy beach (people must think it just can't be true); but we assure you it is ALL TRUE. Almost a football field length of sandy beach -- safe and nasty rip-tide free -- for playing, swimming, wading, sand castle building, sunbathing, and sitting in our beach chairs watching the whales or the sunsets -- a major difference between The Mother Ocean (tm) and most other vacation residences in the world.

Basic Rental: US$400 per night, 4-night minimum, plus 13.25% Hawaii state tax.
Same year-round rental rates every month.
50% nonrefundable deposit (plus state tax) due upon reservation,
balance (plus state tax) and US$200 cleaning fee due 30 days prior to arrival.
Discounts available for reservations of 3-weeks and longer,

Huge thanks to Carol. I was forced to cancel my reservation less than 30 days from our booking due to a severe family medical emergency and she graciously worked with me; even agreeing to refund my deposit should the house be rented to someone else. Her caring attitude and immediately responsive replies during a difficult time will ensure that I will make every attempt to stay here and, will recomend to friends.

My family and I returned for our second trip to The Mother Ocean for almost two weeks in May 2011, after our first visit here for six weeks about two years ago. Words simply cannot describe the beauty and tranquility of this island, and The Mother Ocean is the best the island has to offer. This property is truly the most beautiful place we have ever stayed. Our three year old son loved the pool, and we spent many nights in front of a fire on the beach and grilling out on the new stone grill. The property itself is impeccable, extremely comfortable and luxuriously decorated (a real rarity in a rental, as the furnishings are of exceptional quality and ones I would choose for my own home). And the lanscaping is absolutely phenomenal. One must see the grounds to believe how beautiful they are. The house manager, Kirsten, is ever available, but not intrusive and extremely hospitable and helpful in every way. Without her assistance, our two trips here would not have been as wonderful as they were, and she is truly a gem. The location on Moloka'i is fantastic. Treat yourself to a week or a few at this extraordinary home. We have spent two of our best family vacations in this place, and we hope to return for many more.

Amazing vacation. Loved Molokai, loved this home even more. Clean, spacious, relaxing, amazing views, pictures dont do justice. We lived in the pool and on the lanai. Walked the beach daily. Easy drive to swimming beaches. Can walk out to the reef but cant really swim in ocean as too shallow but great safety for kids. We lived in the pool instead and watched many many whales from the lanai and beach chairs. Thank you for Kirsten for looking out for our well being during the tsumami. Owners were pleasant and easy transactions. Had everything we wanted. would come back. Great value. thanks so much. We had 3 generations from age 18 to age 80. teenager and kids in their 20's LOVED it. No one ever got bored. Try Molokai hot bread at night! Even got a tatoo here. Ask at the pet store about where to go. If you like fine dining and entertainment nite life, molokai is not your island. if it is beauty and R and R ...book here. you will not be disappointed. thankyou for sharing your wonderful home.

TRULY the BEST of the BEST vacation rentals on the entire island of Molokai. Impeccible amenities, awesome pool, lush grounds, close to town, and wonderful and flexible owners with which to make your transaction effortless. A heaven like estate for the price of a comparable room alone in waikiki on the island of Oahu.

Just returned from our second stay at this home. This is by far our favorite place to stay in all of Hawaii! Have stayed in many rental homes on different islands and feel there is no comparison to this home. If you want quiet, comfort and a beautiful setting...this is the place for you. Just gorgeous are the only words that come to mind. Looking at the calendar to see when we can return!
