This superbly renovated and decorated stone house with roof terrace in a pretty wine growing village about 50 minutes from both Perpignan and Carcassonne airports. This absolute gem is the perfect holiday home only 17 kilometres from the sparkling Mediterranean, in a picture postcard village with shop and bar/restaurant and only five minutes from the bustling village of Durban with supermarket, restaurant, and open air pool.

It is not very big (72 square metres over three floors) and there is only one pukka bedroom but it is full of surprises and wonderful original features; white painted exposed beams, quaint tiled floors, staircases, and fireplace, and is decorated in exquisite taste known here in Southern France as 'shabby chic' (very 'Cote Sud' - the up-market French magazine).

On the ground floor a large sitting room (with a daybed) and bathroom beautifully tiled and separate WC. On the middle floor the most romantic bedroom imaginable with fireplace and again beautifully decorated.

On the top floor a large whitewashed country kitchen with stone walls, tiled floor, dining area, and fireplace, and, over the staircase, a cleverly built-in single bed-size sleeping platform (a child would love it!) with stepladder. Then it is outside through huge sliding glass doors the full width of the house onto the roof terrace - a delightful place for al fresco dining and soaking up the sun, with views across the village to the church.

This wonderful little property is the perfect Mediterranean holiday home.

Owner's Profile

Owner Description

Here I am on a film shoot in Washington, DC with my set makeup bag, holding the boom for the soundman while he made an
adjustment. It is obviously winter.

I am a free-lance makeup artist/stylist for 34 yrs. in the Balto.Md/Washington, DC Area.
I've worked on movies, commercials, politicals, sports, docudrama, corporate, industrial, stills,TV movies, HBO, PBS and love my work, my clients and my peers.

Why the Owner Chose Corbieres

To be near the sea........to be in an authentic non-touristy village......... this area is what Provence once was, quiet, beautiful, full of surprises,
lots of creative people are drawn to this area for its purity of spirit. You are able to walk thru the vineyards within steps of the house. Wonderful
walking, hiking, biking.

As a stylist,I am keenly sensitive to 'style' in the classic sense, the French are masters of living life artfully with great taste and style. Their language is the most beautiful in the world.

I love the quiet, with the only noise being church bells, children laughing, birds singing, and of course, the toot of the bread truck.

The Unique Benefits of this House

I love my Senior neighbors with their big smiles, their charming dresses. I love seeing my neighbor walking his goats and donkey. How sweet to
park under a goat pasture. Hearing the bread truck toot it's horn outside my door.
The swallows sweeping overhead, singing.....
The star-filled sky when I am having a glass of wine with friends on the terrace in the evening.
The chidren after school playing with their friends on their way home, passing my doorway..... a fire in the MBR with a glass of cognac.

A Romantic Hideaway in the South of France!

An authentic and romantic gem of a house...

Terri’s little house is the perfect place for a romantic get-away… The three-level structure, tucked away in a small quite street is full of charm from the red shutters at the front door to the white washed secluded terrace on the top level… The house is a blend of rustic and authentic local details (white washed walls on the top 2 levels, exposed wood beams, fireplaces, winding stairs, stone and tile floors…) and bohemian and quirky touches (warm colors accents, very thoughtfully chosen pictures and accessories…). It is not a museum piece, however: It is comfortable and lived in, in a very good way, thanks to the decorating talents of its owner. The house also comes with a plethora of touristic information (should you want to leave the house, that is!), and a welcoming food/wine/flower basket to set the mood… When you leave the house (yes, you will…), you will meet very friendly neighbors (full of information about secluded river bathing spots, treks to neighboring town, where to see wild boars…!), friendly cats (I am still wondering if the cat and her 3 kittens sleeping on the window sill were “hired” just for us!) and charming little winding streets and rustic structures… The village also has a baker come every morning to deliver bread and pastries at your door, daily! Finally, the village location is perfect and you are never more than 1 hour away from great beaches (recommending “la Franqui’, 30 min away), a larger city (Narbonne), and touristic attractions (Carcassonne, Cathar castles, natural caves, wineries, etc. and even an African animal reserve!!!). And should you run into any problems or questions, the local house keeper (Sarah, lives 5 min away) is only a phone call away and the nicest (bi-lingual) person you can meet! The customer service from both Sarah and the house owner was perfect. My only regret: the weather was too nice and we could not use the fireplace in the bedroom! (I will get over it…) I know the place has room to sleep an extra couple of people (or children), but I highly recommend going there as a couple… Enjoy this perfectly named “romantic hideaway” gem!

We had a fantastic time at Terri's charming house. Its beautifully restored with a fantastic roof terrace opening up from the entire length of the kitchen. Situated in a typically picturesque village amid the Corbieres hills. Makes a great base for exploring the countryside, the coast and a must for anyone with even a passing interest in medieval history and architecture. Wine lovers will be in seventh heaven with so many local vineyards and cooperatives offering tastings and sales.
