Old world charm meets modern luxury in the Ghost Apartment. The Modernista (Art Nouveau) building dates from around 1900. The apartments inside however have just recently been redecorated to provide all the modern comfort and elegance you could ask for.
The apartment is situated right at the axis of the Eixample area and the Gothic quarter, just steps away from Placa de Catalunya square and the impressive Boqueria food market.
As soon as you enter the Ghost Apartment, it wins you over with its welcoming, pleasant atmosphere. The apartment looks out on the surrounding buildings' back patios (or, to get you into the swing of things, patios de manzana), resulting in an almost serene quiet.
It measures 85m2 (915 sq ft), has two bedrooms and two en-suite bathrooms. With a sliding wall between the living room and one of the bedrooms, it offers great flexibility.
The apartment owes its name to the sofas in it, which had that name already and do in fact look quite like friendly, comfortable ghosts.
Light is key to the appeal of the Ghost Apartment. It bathes in natural light and features an all-glass sun room, for a year-round sunny experience. It is decorated in soft white tones accented with dark wood details and is carefully lit, with plenty of ceiling lights.
Some vintage finds give the place its character and individuality, like the headboard of one of the beds, which is crafted out of a splendid antique door.
Throughout the apartment the quality of materials used stands out. From the linen on the beds to the top-of-the line equipment in the kitchen, this home away from home is generous with durable luxury.
To top it all off, the apartment alternates styles every now and then. The all-white sofas and the bed linen turn black, making for a completely different look and feel.
Staying in this apartment means getting the best of both worlds. Just a few steps north, you're in the classy Eixample district. Venture south and instantly you're surrounded by history in the Gothic quarter, or Barri Gòtic.
The apartment is named after the university close by. It was designed by architect Elies Rogent (1821-1897) in a style based on Romanica Catalan. Just 200 meters away is Placa Catalunya, the central square of the city.
Just a minute's walk north from the apartment is the Paseig de Gracia, the central avenue of the Eixample district. Fitting with the grandeur of the buildings and the majestic fountain in the middle, this street hosts some of the most exclusive shops in the city.
And as you stroll from designer shop to department store, you happen upon some of the city's worldwide celebrities: the Gaudì buildings, one of which (La Pedrera) is in fact a world heritage site.
Eixample also offers some of the finest restaurants and bars of the city. We would be happy to give you some inside tips during your stay.
A stroll south of the apartment brings you to the Barri Gòtic, the oldest part of the city, famous among others for its many cathedrals. The area, which dates back to medieval times, oozes character and charm. In the narrow, winding streets you come across many boutiques and trendy bars.
Central to the area is La Rambla, the street famous for its street artists and flower stalls and if you walk down La Rambla, you get to la Boqueria, the city's best indoor food market. Definitely worth a visit.
Another district close by is el Raval, an up and coming area where you will find not only the MACBA museum for contemporary art but also many a gallery and street artist. And, just to get you in the mood, if you walk from your apartment to the MACBA museum, you come across Placa Vicenc Martorell, a square with some excellent establishments for breakfast and lunch. |
