Phoenix Nest, a romantic and spectacular oceanfront vacation home, is nestled on two glorious acres of forest right on the ocean.
The 2500 square foot, newly remodeled home is bright and airy and includes a 44-foot living room with windows throughout overlooking the ocean. The two master bedroom suites also have unsurpassed, sweeping views of the ocean. The house has great privacy. You can hear the waves crash and see the osprey and seagulls fly by as the low tide unveils the rocks and sandy beach. Watch gorgeous sunsets from the deck or hot tub.
You will see sea lions surfing or resting on the rocks. During their spring migration, whales often play with their calves off of the nearby peninsula. In winter, you will see them heading south to Baja.
The bluff is like a garden, covered with plants and natural wildflowers. Known as the "banana belt," nearby rivers provide a more fog-free and temperate climate than other coastal areas.
PLEASE NO CHILDREN, PETS OR SMOKING ALLOWED.
$100 surcharge for certain holidays.

Like others, we read the reviews and looked at the pictures and couldn't believe everything being said could possibly be true -- but it is! The views are just spectacular and the home is very comfortable. As some have mentioned, this house really is "ocean front." We could only stay two nights, as we needed to be further south for a cheese festival for the remainder of our stay, but we were very reluctant to leave. We will be back for a longer stay one of these days. As others have said, the owners are delightful to communicate with -- which always helps in these long-distance renting situations. Great directions and very helpful information about the local area.Recommended for: Sightseeing, age 55+, romantic getaway.

We have stayed in many different homeaway properties over the years, but this is our new favorite. The house was perfect for a relaxing, romantic weekend getaway. There are many thoughtful touches, from the champagne greeting you upon arrival to the towels by the private hot tub overlooking the ocean. Pat was very kind and easy to work with. Though we could have explored the little towns and restaurants nearby, we opted to bring groceries and cook all our meals in the well-appointed, light-filled kitchen. The private preserve is highly recommended, but bring a jacket as it gets windy! There are ample beaches and hikes around, but the house was so lovely we spent most of our time reading on the couch overlooking the ocean and enjoying the sound of the waves. Only wish we could have stayed longer! - Alex and JoanneOwner response: Dear Alex and Joanne, Thank you for letting us know how much you enjoyed our home. We truly aim to please and I'm glad you felt we took good care of you. Next time, I hope you will stay longer than two nights as our home and the region will have a profound magical effect on you relative to the number of nights you stay! I look forward to having you as our guests again. Warm regards, Pat

Phoenix Nest met all our expectations and then some. It defines the "oceanfront" location so often lacking in other rentals. It is perched high above the breaking waves, immerses you simultaneously in their fury and their tranquility. The home is divided into two levels, each with its own bed and bath. But the short, unique connecting staircase gives visitors both privacy and the ability to share the wonderful views on both levels and the deck on the upper level. We especially enjoyed watching the unobstructed sunsets from the hot tub. The owners were gracious, and easy to work with. Pat made sure we had access to any help we needed, which we didn't. The kitchen is well laid out and completely furnished. You only need to bring your appetites. The deck has a Webber Grill and their is plenty of good food shopping in Gualala. Be sure to visit the private reserve which gives you wonderful views and access to two beaches, if the sea lions didn't get there first! We would definitely recommend Phoenix Nest to friends and family, and we will be back.Owner response: Dear Herb, Thank you for such a nice description of our home. We strive to please our guests in every way we can. I hope you will return to Gualala and our home very soon--perhaps for our gorgeous spring. Best regards, Pat

This wonderful home sits on one of the most beautiful and idyllic pieces of property on the coast. I have been several times and it never disappoints. You can soak in the hot tub and take in the spectacular view of the coast with seals barking in the distance, take a walk to a private beach and explore pristine tide-pools, or build a fire and enjoy the comfort of the home. The house was remodeled recently - a job well done - preserving the charm of the home while updating the kitchen and bathrooms. This property should be on anyone's short list for a north coast get-away! I'll be back. Bart Magee - San FranciscoOwner response: Dear Bart, I've enjoyed having you as our guests over many years. I'm so pleased that you continue to return to our Phoenix Nest. You are always welcome. Thanks for the many glowing comments about our home. We do aim to please! Warm regards, Pat

We had a wonderful time in this lovingly restored home on a cliff in Gualala. There are amazing views from every room and from the private deck! We spent most of our time here just enjoying the views. This is a very special location, especially if you want to get away from it all and just relax. The owner is so pleasant to work with! Everything was simple and straightforward. We felt very much at home, and we greatly appreciated being able to "live" here for a few days. :-) Thank you, Pat!Owner response: Dear Sarah, I had such a good time helping you plan your trip with your dad and sisters. I'm glad that you had such a great time. You are welcome to come back and enjoy Phoenix Nest anytime! Best regards, Pat

From my first conversation with this owner, I felt confident this property would be ideal for our much needed get-away. I'm happy to say it exceeded all of my expecations (and hopes!). My husband travels so much for business that even the nicest hotel isn't a real vacation for him. That's what usually leads me to VRBO to search for properties. The Phoenix Nest property was immaculate. The exterior of the house, the rooms, the views were even better than the online pictures show. This property takes absolute advantage of the views! There are fabulous windows and stragically placed mirrors so that from any room in the house, you see the ocean. We were so lucky to be there when there was a warm spell so we were able to grill out one night, have sunset happy hour on the deck four of the five nights, watch the stars comes out from the hot tub. We had expected to do a good bit of sightseeing in the area - we did make the drive up to Mendocino one day and to the Anderson Valley to see wineries another - but we quickly concluded that the best views (along with privacy) were right there at our "home". We are not adventurous enough to do Hwy 1 in the dark, so we scratched earlier plans for dinners out and had our evening meals at home. We did stop near Petaluma to purchase some of the food items we wanted from Trader Joe's and Safeway. That worked out well for us. The kitchen in this home felt like I was in our house - everything I needed was there. A special thank you for providing Wi-Fi since our phones didn't often work. I would recommend this property to anyone looking for a great escape to the North Coast. The ONLY thing I would change is that we are used to sleeping in a kingsized bed but the queen beds were comfortable - just not what we are used to. There are numerous b&b type inns and properties in the area but they are fairly comparable in price and for us, the privacy is worth the extra dollars. The owner was very helpful with all of my pre-visit questions and called while we were there to check in with us. Very considerate. We appreciated all of the notes posted around the house which helped us be good visitors to this fabulous home. We felt a connection to all of the other people who have visited here, especially to owners, Pat and Sid. Thank you thank you thank you for making this property available! We hope to return!Recommended for: Romantic getaway.
Owner response: Dear Martha and Eddie, What a rave review! Guests like you make me want be an even better host! Please be our guests again soon. Thanks so much. Pat

This house is tastefully decorated and very comfortable, with wonderful amenities. The views from every window are exquisite, and, the location of the house offers the ultimate in peace and relaxation. The hot tub is situated so you can watch the ocean, while unwinding. The expansive deck is a great place to star gaze, at night, and offers a sweeping vista of the Pacific, during the day. The owner is very pleasant and easy to work with, in helping you arrange your stay. I will definitely return, to this lovely home.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, people with disabilities, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.
Owner response: Dear Marjorie, It was a pleasure getting to know you and knowing you enjoyed our home so much. I hope you will make the Phoenix Nest an annual destination. Warm regards, Pat

What a wonderful home to spend a vacation in. It was exactly as shown in the pictures and the beauty of the surrounding area only added to the experience. The house had every amenity and was sparkling clean upon arrival. Fantastic kitchen so well equiped. Wonderful park in Gualala and easy access to groceries and such. We found no reason to leave Phoenix Nest however, perfectly satisified to sit and watch the ever changing views of the sea and coastlinefrom the living room, on the deck, the views where everywhere! Pat was wonderful to work with and we so appreciated her attention to every detail. We will be back as soon as we can!Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, girls getaway.
Owner response: Dear Kathleen, I am gratified that you loved the house and natural area as much as I do. I hope you come back, maybe during Atlanta's summer heat! Thanks for your kind review. Best regards, Pat

My boyfriend and I spent two nights at Phoenix nest on our first trip from Connecticut to the West Coast. After a few days in San Francisco and the wine country we enjoyed the wonderful kitchen and views to have our homemade meals and wonderful local wines! This home is far beyond what we imagined and immaculate! The location was so private and perfect and looking at the pictures almost a year later makes me homesick even though we were not there long! Can't wait to return! Romantic!Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway.
