Why the Owner Chose Bernal Heights
Having lived in Bernal Heights since 1968, there is no better neighborhood. It is friendly, diverse, familial, vibrant and unique. It is residential but close to downtown and on the way to the airport. The weather is the best, as are the views.
We love sharing it with our guests.
The Unique Benefits of this House
A calm, usually sunny garden oasis in a great neighborhood. Walks around "The Hill" or through the Mission District are always a treat, featuring a great variety of good ethnic eating establishments.

Perfect place for 3 of us. We had a wonderful time. We are traveling with toddler (almost 2 years old), we were looking for a clean, affordable and safe place to stay, we couldn't chose better! Good location, 15 minutes from downtown. We rented a car. No problem with parking by the apartment. We have everything what we need in apartment. Thank you so much for the laundry! It's very helpful when you travel with toddler. Yasha was such a wonderful host! We appreciated all the little things (organic/eco cleaning products, fresh lemons from the tree in the garden, stroller, portacrib, highchair etc.) We feel like at home! I'd love to stay there longer and I'll recommend this property to all my friends! The only thing from the description - it's not always sunny Bernal Heights ;)))

My husband and I stayed in this Bernal Heights apartment for the entirety of the summer. We chose the apartment mainly because of its proximity to transportation to my husband's job, but we grew to love the neighborhood. It has all the amenities of denser, busier areas of the city, but without the attitude. Within walking distance are a number of grocery stores and smaller food shops, a bookstore, a wonderful library branch (for which you can obtain borrowing privileges with only a forwarding mail notice), several yoga studios (at least one of which accepts walk-ins), the best farmers' market in the city (on Saturdays), at least four bus lines and, if you're willing to walk a bit further, the BART (26th/Mission stop). As other reviewers have noted, there are a number of fine restaurants in the area as well. The kitchen in the apartment is completely outfitted, though, so we found ourselves preparing food at home most nights. We thoroughly enjoyed the apartment. I spent most days writing my dissertation inside, and coming out to the beautiful garden for the occasional writing breather. Writing conditions were ideal - very little noise, good light and multiple places to sit and spread out notes. The space is very small, but it's amazing what the owners have done to maximize space. The storage, closet and cabinet spaces are more substantial than what we have in our home apartment, which is more than twice the size of this apartment. We also appreciated the washer/dryer right outside our apartment. Everything was very clean to begin with, but due to the long duration of our stay, we needed to do some cleaning of our own; we appreciated the numerous eco-friendly cleaning products that the owners of the apartment had supplied. Yasha and Carrie, the owners, are wonderful human beings and conscientious landlords and we were sorry to say goodbye to them at the end of the summer. Though we have known them these few short months, we now regard them as friends.

My husband and I have now stayed at this charming apartment several times and once for over three weeks! Not only is it a darling apartment, it is well stocked and very comfortable. (Also, very clean.) The location is ideal, just a few strides from Cortland St. and a short walk to Mission. Restaurants, markets, small shops are all within walking distance. Carrie and Yasha, the proprietors, are both warm and discreet; you definitely feel like the place is yours during your stay. And I can't say enough for the garden wonderland you enter once you've opened the gate! Lemons, jasmine, wisteria and so much more. We will look no further on future trips to San Francisco!

Small but cozy and comfortable apartment, fully equipped with great garden including fruiting lemon tree. Clean and well maintained. The owners are charming. Close to Bernal Heights Park (with incredible views) and minutes from Cortland St with inviting restaurants, food & wine stores, eclectic shops and bars. We particularly enjoyed the Peruvian restaurant. Easy access to downtown San Francisco by car and plenty of on street parking close by. Good for a few days or several weeks. Looking forward to staying again in warmer weather when we can use the lovely garden.

We initially selected Carrie's and Yasha’s apartment because of its proximity to our daughter who lives in Bernal Heights, but we discovered so much more. Its location is less than a block from Cortland, which has a variety of restaurants and cafes, a library, a bookstore, and an excellent organic food store. This brightly lit apartment is tastefully furnished with comfortable and convenient touches and is clean and well-maintained. The private garden is available for sitting, picnicking, cocktails, etc., and is interestingly landscaped. Parking on the street was always available. We stayed five weeks and look forward to returning.

This very pleasant apartment is fully appointed and squeaky-clean. The owners go out of their way to make guests feel welcome and to help with any questions or problems. There is a bus line at the end of the block. The garden is a delightful place to sit with a cup of coffee or a book, and sometimes there are tiny strawberries that children love to pick. I have stayed there at least 5 times, and I'm booked to go back next week.

The apartment is very cute. It contains all you need to have a wonderful stay - including books, cards of the area, dvds, a washing machine with dryer, different lovely tasting soaps and, above all, owners, who are very kind and helpful. The garden you can share with them is also very nice. The same can be said about the district, in which the apartment lies: Bernal Heights. It is a friendly, safe and clean area with a great supermarket (only natural, organic stuff), good restaurants and cosy coffee shops. It is worth discovering San Francisco by the public transport system. So don't hesitate to use bus number 24, which stops in the vicinity, although it lasts almost 40 minutes to arrive in the city district. The only thing to consider is the height of the apartment, which is like the "basement" of the owners' house: If you are taller than 1 meter 85, you run the risk to touch the ceilings not only by hand... Nevertheless, we can truely recommend this property to almost everyone: to younger and older couples, but also to families with one or two small children.

A very cute, homey and comfortable place, at a great location, with very helpful and kind owners. We stayed here with our 2 seven year olds and found it pretty comfortable. The thing to keep in mind is that it is a basement apartment and has low ceilings.Otherwise the location is great in terms of restaurants, interesting stores, playground for children, grocery stores and coffee shops. We found the neighborhood safe and friendly with an easy access to downtown SF and the airport.
