Casa Yerbabuena sits on a quiet cul-de-sac in Colonia San Antonio, a 20-minute walk from the center of San Miguel. This is a traditional, Mexican-style house, decorated with art, Mexican textiles and handicrafts.
There are a total of four bedrooms. On the second floor, three bedrooms--one queen and two singles--share a bathroom with shower and tub. The bedrooms open onto a window-lined sun room and a balcony overlooking the garden. There is a fourth bedroom on the first floor, with a queen-sized bed and its own bathroom with shower.
The first floor has a spacious living room/dining area with a gas fireplace. The table in the dining area seats six. There is a fully-equipped kitchen with gas stove, oven, microwave and large refrigerator. The study has cable television and wireless internet hook-up. Our housekeeper comes 3 days a week to mop, dust and wash linens.
The patio garden, shaded by orange and lime trees, features a fountain and a table that seats six. Pink bourganvilla climbs up the walls. From the roof terrace, you can see the church spires in town and the mountains beyond. In the morning, a hot air balloon can often be glimpsed, floating over the rooftops.
San Antonio is a lively neighborhood where Mexicans, expatriates and vacationers live side-by-side. Small shops and restaurants line the cobbled streets. There are language schools and art schools, including the famous Instituto Allende, within a 10-minute walk from the house, over non-hilly terrain. Casa Yerbabuena is perfect for families, couples, singles and for anyone who enjoys living in-town and wants to take an active part in the life of San Miguel. It's not necessary to have a car to get around town--since you can walk or catch a taxi.

My husband and I with another couple rented Casa Yerbabuena for the month of November. We loved the house, especially the outdoor patio complete with fountain and lemon tree and the rooftop terrace with it's spectacular view. The kitchen was well equipped and the beds were comfy. The master bedroom and the downstairs bedroom were nice and quiet, while the two single bedrooms upstairs which faced the street were noisy a few nights due to a car alarm going off at all hours, unfortunately. The area is within walking distance to centro and there is a wonderful family run restaurant nearby..La Rinconcita which we all loved. We found the neighbours to be very friendly and helpful, especially Ernesto from Texas who lives across the street. Although we have an SUV we managed to tuck it into the carport nightly (a tight fit) as one night when we left it on the street it was spray painted. Luckily it came off easily with a scrub of soap and water. The one thing we wished for was more comfortable seating as the Mexican style leather couches and chairs look nice but are not very comfortable. But all in all the house is great and the price is an exceptional value. We would gladly stay again. I might add the owners were very helpful and easy to deal with.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, age 55+, tourists without a car, pet owners, girls getaway, romantic getaway.

Excellent location, easy walk to centro, Instituto, Juarez Park. Nice Mexican neighborhood with many local restaurants, stores etc. Nice outdoor garden for relaxing, cocktails or just catching sun and reading. We came from Mazatlan to escape our end of the season heat and the weather and house met all our expectations.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, age 55+, sightseeing, tourists without a car, pet owners.

We have spent winter months a Yerbabuena over the past 3 years and will be returning for 3 months next winter and hopefully for many more winters. As we stated in our first review in March of 2010 Yerbabuena feels like our home away from home. the house is well-equipped and comfortable. The south-facing courtyard, deck and rooftop are delight, filled with flowering pots, plants and a lovely spreading lime tree. there are wonderful views of San Miguel from the rooftop -- a perfect place to watch the sunset and sip on margaritas. The warm and friendly housekeeper and gardener keep the house clean and tidy and the owners and managers deal with problems as they occur. We find the neighbourhood to be safe and friendly, with many small shops and businesses. There is a wonderful restaurant just minutes away from Yerbabuena and many more all around town. It is an easy walk to the centre of town. You do not need a car to live at Yerbabuena. San Miguel de Allende is a gem -- concerts, lectures, artists, gorgeous weather and much more.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, age 55+, sightseeing, tourists without a car, girls getaway, romantic getaway.

I spent a delightful week in Casa Yerbabuena summer 2011. As a musician I found the quiet, privacy and beauty of the house and patio perfect. As a photographer I found walking though the pueblo visually exciting and full of discoveries. The weather was comfortable; the cafes, refreshing; the people warm and friendly. It was hard to leave, but I will return...Recommended for: Age 55+, sightseeing, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, families with young children.
Owner response: Indeed Casa Yerbabuena is the perfect vacation house for people who love the arts. It is a visual delight, as is the surrounding neighborhood. And there is always plenty of cultural activity within a five-or ten-minute walk, including art classes at the Institute Allende and Spanish language and culture classes at Centro Mexicano de Lengua y Cultura, around the corner on Orizaba.

I stayed in Casa Yerbabuena with 3 generations of my family in August 2010 and it was a fabulous experience! The rooms are very comfortable and nicely decorated, you really feel like you're in a home - not just a rental house. The kitchen has every amenity and there are lots of places for each person staying in the house to relax, read, or watch TV - the living room, the office, the upstairs sun room and deck and the roof top deck. The neighborhood is quite nice and it is a quick walk to town if you don't want to bother with a car. There are great little neighborhood restaurants that give you a real feeling of living in San Miguel, not just visiting. I can't wait for my next stay!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, age 55+, sightseeing, tourists without a car, girls getaway, families with young children, adventure seekers.
Owner response: Indeed Casa Yerbabuena is the ideal house for a family holiday, since there are four bedrooms and lots of common areas too. The neighborhood of San Antonio is very friendly and family-oriented and there many little nearby cafes and businesses that are fun to explore.

I stayed in Yerbabuena (my second time) this past summer with two women friends and we all loved it. It's comfortable, spacious, beautifully decorated and affordable. We enjoyed eating in the patio-garden and watching the spectacular sunset from the roof. Best of all is the neighborhood; it's slightly removed from the center of town and yet a quick walk or bus ride away. We always felt safe there. I studied at Senora Josefina's on nearby Orizaba and my friends took art classes at the Instituto -- both, just a few blocks from "home".Recommended for: Families with teenagers, age 55+, sightseeing, tourists without a car, girls getaway, romantic getaway, families with young children, adventure seekers.
Owner response: We're glad you enjoyed your stay at Casa Yerbabuena. Ours is indeed a wonderful and vibrant neigbhorhood. Senora Josefina's school on Orizaba is the Centro Mexicano de Lengua y Cultura and is just a few blocks away. It's a true gem. Wonderful Spanish language and culture classes are offered there for all ages. They also run a children's camp program in the summer. The famous Instituto Allende, with its spectacular patios, galleries, crafts fairs and art classes, is also nearby.

Rented the house for the month of November, 2011, and found it comfortable. Concerns were addressed promptly by the property manager. Liked the neighbourhood. Enjoyed all the outside seating areas (there are three!!). Easy walk to centro. The local tiendas met all our needs (including a terrific butcher just a couple of blocks away and a shoe repair place around the corner) and there were restaurants close by if I didn't feel like cooking. AND comfortable beds!!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, age 55+, sightseeing, tourists without a car, girls getaway, romantic getaway, families with young children.
Owner response: Wanda, it was a pleasure having you as a renter. In your enthusiasm to return to San Miguel this coming November, you made a small typo. Actually you stayed at Casa Yerbabuena in November 2010. But we do hope you'll return in 2011!

We have just returned from two months in San Miguel, living in Yerbabuena. Yerbabuena felt like our home away from home. The house is well-equipped and comfortable. We found the neighbourhood to be safe and friendly, with many small shops & businesses. We enjoyed the ebb & flow of Mexican life that surrounded us. The south-facing courtyard, deck and rooftop were a delight, filled with flowering pots, plants and a lovely spreading lime tree. There are wonderful views of San Miguel from the rooftop-a perfect place to watch the sunset and sip on margaritas. The warm & friendly housekeeper & gardener keep the house & garden clean & tidy & the owners & managers deal with problems as they occur. I rented this house for 4 months from September to December 2009, staying there with my family of 2 young boys. We felt very at home there, and everything we needed was provided for day to day living. The location is first class, as it is in a Mexican neighbourhood with shops and eating places within a minutes walk. It also means there is some life around rather than being shut away in some gated community. the walk to el centro is 20 minutes at the most, downhill on the way back! It is very handy for the Instituto Allende where we studied Spanish, and there are lots of larger restaurants within 10 minutes walk of the house. What we like especially about the house is the garden, a lovely place to sit out at any time. Also the roof terrace is a bonus, with fabulous views of the town and surrounding mountains by day, and a stunning backdrop of the floodlit buildings by night. Definitely a great place to rent, and very good value for money compared with many others.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 3/3

We thoroughly enjoyed our month here. The interior is attractively (though not lavishly) furnished and decorated, the neighborhood is lively and safe, and the local shops made trips to the Mega unnecessary. The property managers in San Miguel responded promptly to any problems.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 3/3
