Artist on Vacation

I spent a delightful week in Casa Yerbabuena summer 2011. As a musician I found the quiet, privacy and beauty of the house and patio perfect. As a photographer I found walking though the pueblo visually exciting and full of discoveries. The weather was comfortable; the cafes, refreshing; the people warm and friendly. It was hard to leave, but I will return...

Owner response:Indeed Casa Yerbabuena is the perfect vacation house for people who love the arts. It is a visual delight, as is the surrounding neighborhood. And there is always plenty of cultural activity within a five-or ten-minute walk, including art classes at the Institute Allende and Spanish language and culture classes at Centro Mexicano de Lengua y Cultura, around the corner on Orizaba.

We loved Yerbabuena!

I stayed in Yerbabuena (my second time) this past summer with two women friends and we all loved it. It's comfortable, spacious, beautifully decorated and affordable. We enjoyed eating in the patio-garden and watching the spectacular sunset from the roof. Best of all is the neighborhood; it's slightly removed from the center of town and yet a quick walk or bus ride away. We always felt safe there. I studied at Senora Josefina's on nearby Orizaba and my friends took art classes at the Instituto -- both, just a few blocks from "home".

Owner response:We're glad you enjoyed your stay at Casa Yerbabuena. Ours is indeed a wonderful and vibrant neigbhorhood. Senora Josefina's school on Orizaba is the Centro Mexicano de Lengua y Cultura and is just a few blocks away. It's a true gem. Wonderful Spanish language and culture classes are offered there for all ages. They also run a children's camp program in the summer. The famous Instituto Allende, with its spectacular patios, galleries, crafts fairs and art classes, is also nearby.

Very Comfortable!`

Rented the house for the month of November, 2011, and found it comfortable. Concerns were addressed promptly by the property manager. Liked the neighbourhood. Enjoyed all the outside seating areas (there are three!!). Easy walk to centro. The local tiendas met all our needs (including a terrific butcher just a couple of blocks away and a shoe repair place around the corner) and there were restaurants close by if I didn't feel like cooking. AND comfortable beds!!

Owner response:Wanda, it was a pleasure having you as a renter. In your enthusiasm to return to San Miguel this coming November, you made a small typo. Actually you stayed at Casa Yerbabuena in November 2010. But we do hope you'll return in 2011!

I stayed in Casa Yerbabuena with 3 generations of my family in August 2010 and it was a fabulous experience! The rooms are very comfortable and nicely decorated, you really feel like you're in a home - not just a rental house. The kitchen has every amenity and there are lots of places for each person staying in the house to relax, read, or watch TV - the living room, the office, the upstairs sun room and deck and the roof top deck. The neighborhood is quite nice and it is a quick walk to town if you don't want to bother with a car. There are great little neighborhood restaurants that give you a real feeling of living in San Miguel, not just visiting. I can't wait for my next stay!

Owner response:Indeed Casa Yerbabuena is the ideal house for a family holiday, since there are four bedrooms and lots of common areas too. The neighborhood of San Antonio is very friendly and family-oriented and there many little nearby cafes and businesses that are fun to explore.

We have just returned from two months in San Miguel, living in Yerbabuena. Yerbabuena felt like our home away from home. The house is well-equipped and comfortable. We found the neighbourhood to be safe and friendly, with many small shops & businesses. We enjoyed the ebb & flow of Mexican life that surrounded us. The south-facing courtyard, deck and rooftop were a delight, filled with flowering pots, plants and a lovely spreading lime tree. There are wonderful views of San Miguel from the rooftop-a perfect place to watch the sunset and sip on margaritas. The warm & friendly housekeeper & gardener keep the house & garden clean & tidy & the owners & managers deal with problems as they occur. We will return to Yerbabuena.

I rented this house for 4 months from September to December 2009, staying there with my family of 2 young boys. We felt very at home there, and everything we needed was provided for day to day living. The location is first class, as it is in a Mexican neighbourhood with shops and eating places within a minutes walk. It also means there is some life around rather than being shut away in some gated community. the walk to el centro is 20 minutes at the most, downhill on the way back! It is very handy for the Instituto Allende where we studied Spanish, and there are lots of larger restaurants within 10 minutes walk of the house. What we like especially about the house is the garden, a lovely place to sit out at any time. Also the roof terrace is a bonus, with fabulous views of the town and surrounding mountains by day, and a stunning backdrop of the floodlit buildings by night. Definitely a great place to rent, and very good value for money compared with many others.

We thoroughly enjoyed our month here. The interior is attractively (though not lavishly) furnished and decorated, the neighborhood is lively and safe, and the local shops made trips to the Mega unnecessary. The property managers in San Miguel responded promptly to any problems.

I stayed in Yerbabuena with two friends this summer and we loved it! It's clean, well-equipped and unpretentiously charming. My bedroom was on the first floor. It had a comfortable bed, ample closet space and a large window through which you can see (and smell) the jasmine, lime and orange trees in the patio garden. We ate breakfasts in the garden and went up to the roof to sip margaritas and watch the sunset in the evening. San Antonio is a friendly and convenient neighborhood and, at the same time, it has a feeling of privacy. There are several quiet restaurants which are excellent and small grocery stores within a few blocks of the house. My favorite Spanish School is right around the corner, on Orizaba. It's only a 15-minute walk from Cento or you can take one of buses that run frequently to and from different points in the center of town. We (all women) felt completely safe in San Antonio. The owners, Mona, Frank and Marina are a delightful family that were easy to deal with. I would definitely rent this house again! Roberta Schine, New York, New York

We stayed at this property for 10 months, and would highly recomend it. The house is very well equipped, including the kitchen, which has not always been our experience when renting properties. The location was perfect for us, we could walk just about anywhere. All the beds are comfortable and the rooms are brightly decorated. Unlike a lot of properties here in San Miguel, there is a lot of natural light. The patio and roof deck are delightful and a wonderful place to spend your time. The management company here in San Miguel is very responsive and deals with any issues or repairs quickly and efficiently. We are sorry to leave and would definitely rent this property again. We had a lovely time in July at this property. It was well equipped, quiet, and had plenty of space. The views from the roof are lovely and there are tiendas(small stores) very close by. The neighbors were friendly and no barking dogs next door. We would definitely rent here again.

Lovely house and very well equipped-patio is beautiful and fragrant in Spring with orange blossoms.I used the upstairs terrace for morning coffee and the roof at sunset for a glass of wine and view of beautiful San Miguel. This is my second winter in the street and I find it very convenient for walking or driving. And the neighbors are friendly!

I very much enjoyed staying here with my friends last summer. The house has a lot of charm and felt authentically Mexican to me in its design (the enclosed patio garden with its citrus trees and outdoor staircase to the roof terrace; the tile work in kitchen and bathrooms; the ironwork on the windows). The décor is very colorful and inviting, especially the bedrooms. (My bed was very comfortable, to mention a prosaic but important detail. I slept in the red bedroom overlooking the street on the second floor, where I could open the French doors to let the cool night air sweep in – and hear the roosters crow!) We ate our breakfasts on the roof, savoring the view – the air is so crystal clear that everything looks etched. The kitchen was a pleasant room to spend time in cooking -- it was well laid out for the 3 of us to work together. The house is close enough to el Centro that I walked virtually everywhere (except when I’d bought a lot of groceries or when I came home alone late at night – there’s one stretch of road that felt a bit too dark and quiet to me). I definitely recommend walking (in comfortable, sturdy shoes) to get to know San Miguel! The neighborhood, San Antonio, is interesting to wander around in its own right (guide books will mostly tell you about what’s in el Centro). Talk about local flavor -- a woman living a couple of doors down sold fresh-squeezed orange juice in the morning (you bring your own pitcher). Assuming she still does that, one of the American neighbors can point the house out to you if like me you only speak a few words of Spanish.
