Cuernavaca near the centro

We spent seven days and six nights at this enchanted home located a short walk from the town square. We arrived several hours after we had planned due to a missed connecting flight and did not get to the house until well after midnight. Despite the time we were welcomed and taken in and treated as family. We were treated very graciously, despite having kept them up late into the night. Not enough can be said to adequately explain the kindness that we received. It was just like a son coming home after a long time away. Anyway, the house was very nice, there was a small garage that kept our vehicle safe though there probably would not have been any problems had we left it parked in front of the house. The washer was nice and the clothes lines were well stocked with clothes pins to hang the clothes to dry. The kitchen was gorgeous and the whole house was very much a representation of Mexico. I lived in Cuernavaca 15 years earlier and this house was like coming home. The open main area on the second floor was very refreshing and relaxing. The wireless internet was fast and worked best on the second and third floors. We did not watch much TV but there were several channels. There is a Museum around the corner, the Robert Brady Museum with things from around the world that he collected on his travels. The Cathedral of Cuernavaca is around the next corner past the museum and there is a park (Parque Borda) just past that. There is a Commercial Mexicana, similar to a Walmart, less than a ten minute walk away. Tepoztlan is not far from there. Tazco is also close by and both cities are a must. We rented a car but that was not necessary, just easier since we had two small children (3 & 7 months). There are drivers available through the owner of the home for day trips. The house has lots of room for many people and would make a great place to take a group (5 beds, of which 2 are twins). It was a wonderful experience and we will certainly recommend it!

The house is even more lovely than it looks in the pictures. My wife and son and I spent a week there in December and had a fantastic time. I would strongly recommend this to anyone considering a trip to the area. Re Cuernavaca - for those with children the Paplote Museo de Niño is incredible. THere's nothing like it even in NYC where I live. The Ecological park was gorgeous and ridiculously inexpensive. We took our son there several times. Also, don't miss Tepotzlan, maybe 20 minutes away by car. Its worth a day trip.

Living in the Lap of Luxury and History

Casa Mariposa Blanca The historic center of Cuernavaca is small but beautiful, and Casa Mariposa Blanca is in the very center of it and part of it. This was my second week-long visit to Cuernavaca (my first was disappointing because I stayed too far from its central glories). Their website provides accurate details about the accommodations but cannot convey the feel of living in a part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site, with a peek into the bishop's residence (if you care to) and into his observatory and over to the pool and gardens of the Brady Museum (what neighbors!!). The limited traffic on the cobble-stoned street in front of the house does not preclude youths in love (often headed to the lovely park just across the street) and citizens and tourists (thankfully few gringos) curious about the house: a queenly wave from on high to those below. The fun young bar scene is two blocks away in a surprisingly beautiful small area. And perhaps the best food I have enjoyed in Mexico: three of four restaurants of world-class caliber within easy walking distance (the fourth worth the short taxi ride - at least for cocktails on the lawns). The owner, Victoria, and her father and brother could not have been more helpful - greeting me at the house, patiently explaining the ins-and-outs (and when I did not understand one, returned the next day to explain again). I was traveling alone and am not that agile but was able to cope with this large, comfortable house (ascending to the upper-most terrace seldom - but rewarded with spectacular views). There is a MEGA store two blocks away (though down the steep main road - if I could make it anyone can - if not, the cheapest taxis in Mexico). And finally, the house is a bargain: a highly praised hotel (Colonial) is around the corner at a noisy intersection and would have cost much more than I paid for this mansion! The "centro" bus station is a block away - a bit over an hour to Mexico City; buses every 1/2 hour. Though if you stay at Casa Mariposa Blanca, you may not want to leave. Now I know where to stay!!

One week in Cuernavaca at Casa Mariposa

Guest: Jack from North Carolina (Chapel HIll, NC, USA)
Date of Stay: 07/04/10 Review Submitted: 07/20/10

Our stay at Casa Mariposa was truely delightful. The house is exactly as described, the location is PERFECT, the house was clean and had everything we needed. Ms. Trevino was fabulous. She met us at the house and made herself available during the week by phone. She knows the city and the area and is a great source of information. There is a very helpful tourist office around the corner and two super markets a short walk from the house. THe town center is lively, receptive to visitors, and the large mercado was amazing for produce. I would recommend this property to anyone visitng Cuernavaca. The weather was cool, the internet connect reliable, and the four of us had plenty of public and private space. Thank you Victoria for a great and relaxing week. Jack from North Carolina

A friend and I stayed at Casa Mariposa Blanca for ten days recently. It was an utterly delightful experience: there was a strong sense of security, the house was very well-equipped and central to sights, transport, restaurants, shops etc. The weather was needless to say perfect, and the house was neither hot by day nor cold by night. The owners clearly love this property and spare no effort to make their tenants welcome.

I stayed in Cuernavaca for 3 weeks in June 2008. Staying at the Casa Marisopa Blanca was a wonderful experience. The first thing that you notice is how large the house really is: 5 stories. The garden of palm trees is beautiful and the decorations are authentic. The location of the house is superb, because it is 1 block from the cathedral and no more than 2 blocks from great resturants and entertainment. I will recommend this lovely house to anyone going to mexico for a trip. It would be great for seminars and school because the taxis are so inexpensive to get anywhere. On top of all of that the owner is very receptive to any problems and will take care of them immediately.

We would just like to thank you for a most enjoyable stay in Cuernavaca. What a wonderful city and home. We were so close to everything and thoroughly enjoyed our stay there. The house is so spacious and we felt very safe in that neighborhood. The fountain was very soothing and the view from the top was amazing. Thank you Sr. Trevino for all your help and making us feel at home. We would love to stay in your home again in the future.

Comment Text: If you are considering a visit to Cuernavaca, staying at the Casa Mariposa Blanca is a must. It offers both beauty and convenience. The house itself whispers of its long history as it rises up through multiple levels, crowned by a rooftop deck. In my week stay not a sunrise or sunset was missed from this vantage point. I also enjoyed the inside/outside feel of the house, created by its numerous terraces. On the practical side, there is a large grocery store just down the road that can meet all your daily needs and then some. There is also a first class bus station nearby to connect you with Mexico City and points beyonds. Since the house is in the historic district of Cuernavaca, nearly all of the main sightseeing spots are within a short walk. Don't miss the Brady Museum. (It shares a common wall with the Casa Mariposa Blanca.) From start to finish in the rental process the Trevino family was responsive and helpful. They even provided a detailed orientation packet that included, among many other things, a clear guide to get me from the airport in Mexico City to the front door of the house. I've rented houses and apartments all over Latin America and never received this kind of support. Cuernavaca truly does deserve its reputation as being the city of eternal springtime. The Casa Mariposa Blanca provides the perfect location in which to strike out and explore the surrounding charm and beauty.
