The Wahwa Cottage situated on a prominent point of land, over looking the five islands of Cape Porpoise. The owners of the Oriental Tea Company built this cottage in 1898. The house features a 10 person formal dining room; a comfortable living room and a large eat in kitchen. A private pier provides the center for water activities such as swimming and kayaking and access to the broad stretch of sandy flats for walking, playing and island adventuring. A spacious wrap-around porch has areas for shady reading and sun bathing. There are large lawns for out door games such as softball or Badminton. A 10-minute walk takes you to the bustling Cape Porpoise fish pier or the quaint village of Cape Porpoise. The tidal change is 8-10 feet in front of the house making a landscape that is always changing. At low tide, the sand flats are accessible for one half mile in all directions. In the evening, relax on the porch to watch the sun set reflecting on the islands.
Beautiful Vistas: unique environment: The sea coast of Cape Porpoise is surrounded by a protective island boundary. These islands form a barrier from the Atlantic ocean's waves and wind, creating an ideal area for kayaking, canoing and any other type of recreational boating. The islands provide a multitude of inlets, coves and beaches to explore or make shore. The six islands directly in front of the house are Stage, Fort, Cape, Trotts, Redins and Goat. All of these islands are owned by the Kennebunkport Conservation Trust, and are open to the public for picnicking and touring. Please visit their web site for a web cam view of the area from the light house situated on Goat Island. The exact coordinates of the house are: 43.369918,-70.429709. These can be used in Google Earth 'Fly To' tab. Google maps does not show the address location correctly.
Late Summer Tennis Court: An original clay tennis court is available depending upon the weather conditions. The surface of this court is actually a grey clay. It is very susceptible to water pooling and can not be used for days after a hard rain. Often in August and September, when the court has dried out it is very convenient. So bring your raquets, maybe you will get lucky

This is our 4 th year renting and we are constantly amazed with it's beauty and serenity. The house is quaint, "homey", and steeped in history. The area is private and very well situated to many of the tourist attractions. However, once you arrive you will want to stay and enjoy all that is around you. If you are an artist and / or photographer....this place is heavenly! Sunsets, changing tides, endless atmosphere... The owners are helpful and welcoming. We just love it.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

The great-great grandparents of the current owners built these houses and boy did they choose the BEST LOCATION possible! You are in a very private and quiet area down a private road. You have the islands out front, boating at high tide and walks across the flats at low tide! You can walk up to the local pier and get fresh lobster, fried clams, or go to the fancy restaurant there, or the attached very nice bar which has great food also and is more low-key. See all the lobster boats in the working harbor!! Then Kennebunkport is only a few minutes away by car -- let the tourists stay there, while you luxuriate in your own Victorian by the sea with a wraparound porch!!!! AMAZING! So peaceful and wonderful. We have stayed in high summer but also September is PERFECT there. Recommend bringing or renting kayaks, the protected waters in front of the houses, which have the islands out front making a breakwater, mean it's nice and calm enough for kayaking -- even out to see the seals out on seal rocks! Or out to the LIGHTHOUSE!! You will never forget a wonderful vacation in this spot!!!! You can also camp out on the islands if you reserve ahead with the Kennebunkport Conservation Trust.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, age 55+, adventure seekers, sightseeing, girls getaway, romantic getaway, families with young children.

If you are looking for a great house to rent...THIS IS IT!! Great for large families. My family has been renting this house for the past 5 years and each time it gets better and better. The house is right on the ocean. Great for that large family. Bring your book, a little music and some wine...the house and sights do the rest. The sounds of lobster boats going by in the early morning hours and the waves rustling in the evenings settle. BOY YOU CAN NOT ASK FOR ANY MORE. So relaxing and peaceful. We enjoy digging for clams and walking out around the islands at low tide. Fun for all of the kids and adults. Cape Porpoise is a wonderful town with wonderful people. The Bowe family has been very hospitible. TheY are like an extention for my own family. ENJOY AND DO NOT FORGET TO BRING YOUR FISHING POLE AND PLENTY OF LOTION. YOU WILL WANT TO COME BACK FOR MORE.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with young children.

This house and the location are absolutely fantastic. The views are amazing, and you can go boating at high tide or walking at low tide. You can boat or walk to the islands out front and picnic. You can visit the lighthouse and get a tour. The local fish pier which is a short walk away has a fancy restaurant and a "clam shack," and Cape Porpoise village has a nice antique shop and a couple more nice restaurants and a grocery store; there's fresh lobster pound at the end of the road, you can walk there. You are away from the hubbub of Kennebunkport, but close enough (about 10 minutes or less) to go there if you really want to. The house inside is absolutely lovely, and tastefully furnished with mostly antiques. Bring your own boat and launch it right there!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 22/24
