A BIRD WATCHERS PARADISE
Heron's Rest is a 1910 cabin sitting on 5/8 acre along the Necanicum River north of downtown Seaside, Oregon. Facing west, the picture windows wrap around the front of the house providing hours of beautiful views of the river, estuary, and sunsets. The ample yard offers a play area for kids and a lovely riverside sitting/BBQ area. Located just far enough from downtown to be a quiet secluded setting, the cabin is only 2 blocks from the 12th street bridge, a favorite crabbing location, and just an 8 minute walk (6 blocks) to the beach. The restaurants and shopping areas are a short 10 minute walk, or 2 minute drive away.
The cabin is fully furnished for short or long stays. Two bedrooms without adjoining walls assure quiet evenings, and a queen sofa-sleeper allows for extra guests. There is ample ventilation and a ceiling fan to bring in the sea breeze. On cooler nights electronically controlled heating and electric blankets assure everyone gets a warm nights sleep.
This has been our home and we love it. The laughter of children, BBQs, birthdays, the 4th of July fireworks celebration with fires on the beach, the Hood-to-Coast Relay, volleyball tournaments, sandcastle contests and a hundred other celebrations have brought laughter and joy to this house. Since its construction in 1910, when a clam shell road linked Seaside with the Astoria train station, this house we call Heron's Rest has given rest, relaxation, comfort and joy to those who slept here.
From the picture windows you will enjoy hours of viewing as the wildlife passes on the river. Often herons are seen perched on the nearby trees or snags; eagles swoop in graceful curves as they fish for the days meal, and seals can be seen sneaking their way up river in search of salmon, crab or other local fish. We invite you to join those who have enjoyed this special place for your special occasions.

This place was perfect for our small group. Our group converged on this little gem from Salt Lake City, Seattle and Portland. We were there in July and the weather was perfect. The description was perfect....it is definitely within an easy walk of Seaside shopping and restaurants. I would definitely recommend this property to others.

My wife and I really enjoyed our stay at Heron's Nest. The location is ideal and the home was very clean and comfortable. The ability to sit out by the river and build nightly camp fires on the property was awesome. We would definately go back again.

We're back home after a wonderful stay at your cabin. Lots to do and see, especially right out the window--Loons, Buffleheads galore and of course, Herons! We all loved it, and though the weather didn't cooperate much, we still had a great time. You've got a great place--thanks for sharing it.

My husband and I stayed here for 3 nights in March. The location is great, a short walk or bike ride to everything you'd want to see in Seaside. We especially loved the view of the river and sat every day on the swivel chairs to have our morning coffee, afternoon tea, evening wine and to read and relax. Unfortunately the weather was not great, but we didn't mind. The only downside is that the inside fireplace is not in use, as a warm fire would have been nice considering the cold, wet weather. We had bikes and rode everywhere. The beach in Seaside is fantastic and very close to the cottage. Be sure to drive down to Cannon Beach for the quaint shopping. We would highly recommend Maggie's on the Prom in Seaside for Happy Hour and dinner - the food was excellent. We would definately come back here again.

Traveled from Seattle with my family. My parents were visiting from New Jersey for their 38th wedding anniversary. We had great weather (slightly chilly) and caught a large crab. The house was very comfortable and we enjoyed the breath taking views of the Oregon coast. Thanks for sharing your home. Jill, Bryan, Joan, Anthony and Mac (dog-woof)
