East Chop house description
5 Bedrooms are furnished as follows: 1 double bed, 1 twin, 2 twin beds, 1 Queen and 1 Queen. Walk just 10 minutes to the saltwater beaches at Eastville Point and Lagoon pond.
As you approach EVENTIDE, watch for a small, white trellis (archway) centered on the Temahigan Ave. hedge. There's also a white, decorative chain outside of the hedge.
The house is near East Chop, halfway between the downtowns of Oak Bluffs and Vineyard Haven at 1.7 miles to either. Your family or group will enjoy the shade of the porch and the sunny yard bordered by hedges and a solid white fence. There are two picnic tables seating 9 and 4, respectively, and there are plenty of outdoor chairs to arrange to your liking.
The fully-furnished home has a well-equipped kitchen. Everything needed for cooking and serving meals is provided. Just add your favorite foods or enjoy a variety of 'take-out.' There's also a charcoal grill.
The dining room, living room, 2 baths, 3 showers and 5 inviting bedrooms, comfortably sleeping 9, make the house a home. The living room has a large, flat-screen Cable TV, VCR-DVD player, WiFi (includes High-Speed Internet), couch, chairs, cushions, etc. There's also a 2nd flat-screen cable TV upstairs.
Playing cards, games, puzzles and many books are provided for your enjoyment.
Across the breezeway from the kitchen is the laundry room with a washer, dryer, charcoal grill, yard games and a shower.
Bringing A Car With You?: We provide an excellent Island map to our guests. A great, inexpensive bus system connects with the airport, ferry terminals, our house and most points on the Island. 1-, 3- and 7-day passes are available for purchase on board any bus at deep discounts. Cars, bikes and Mopeds may be rented near both ferry terminals. Please note that mopeds are not permitted on the bike paths.
A ferry reservation is required to bring a car to Martha's Vineyard Island. The SteamshipAuthority.com ferries begin accepting car reservations in early January, so that's when a reservation should be made. They operate between Woods Hole on Cape Cod and Martha's Vineyard.
Check-in time at 'Eventide' is 4:00 p.m. and check-out is by 10:00 a.m. If you choose to leave your car on the mainland, there is a calendar-day charge of $10 to $16 at most ferry ports. Passenger-only ferries operate from Woods Hole, Falmouth and New Bedford, MA and Quonset Point, RI. You may also fly to the Vineyard: Contact CapeAir.com or go to their website for schedules and reservations. Some of the larger airlines, may also serve The Vineyard. The MV Airport is 7 miles from the house and is also served by bus.
BIKE TRAILS: One of the many bike paths, goes by the house, continuing several miles to the Vineyard Haven-Edgartown Road. From there, another bike trail follows the road to Vineyard Haven to the right and Edgartown to the left. There are also bike trails through the State Forest, so you really can 'get away from it all.'
Public Transportation makes a car less necessary. We use the local bus system, ourselves, with a stop close to the house. This is the route of the No.13 bus which runs the most frequent;y of any other line. It serves Vineyard Haven, Oak Bluffs and Edgartown. It will stop on signal, except near intersections and terminals. Fares are simple to understand. Based upon 2014, they are $1 per town traveled. Deeply-discounted passes are sold on-board any bus and are valid for 1, 3 or 7 days (exact change or bills, please). One example of the savings is a round-trip to Aquinnah and the famous clay cliffs, costing $10, while a 1-full-day pass is less. A 3-day pass is $15 and a 7-day is just $25.
Do you want to have a car with you, but can't get a car-ferry reservation? On-Island car rental agencies include Hertz and Avis, along with some local brands. Contact them at their websites or toll-free numbers. Car rental rates on the Vineyard are understandably higher than on the Mainland.
More Vineyard Info: The Martha's Vineyard Chambers of Commerce are located within 2 blocks of both ferry terminals: Oak Bluffs and Vineyard Haven (Tisbury). We can also recommend the Vineyard Gazette and Martha's Vineyard Times newspapers, available at the Vineyard Haven Cumberland Farms, pharmacies and general stores throughout the Island.
There are several free publications about Island happenings, which you may pick up on the ferries, at their terminals and in various stores on The Vineyard.

YOUR VINEYARD VACATION HOME is halfway between the downtowns of Oak Bluffs and Vineyard Haven. It has a large, wrap-around porch and white lattice with hedges on 3 sides. There's a solid white fence along the 4th side.
A white trellis centers the front hedge and leads to a stone walkway to the house.
Easy access to downtown Oak Bluffs and Vineyard Haven (Tisbury) is 5 minutes by car or bus and about 10-15 minutes on a bike. Trips to the farther points on the island are best reached by bus or car.
Newcomers to Martha's Vineyard will appreciate a 'Martha's Vineyard Sightseeing' tour as an introduction to the Island. Their buses meet most of the daytime ferries in Oak Bluffs and Vineyard Haven. Rent bikes and visit the Chambers of Commerce near both ferry terminals in Vineyard Haven and Oak Bluffs.
Need a car? It is less expensive to bring your car over from the mainland than it is to rent one on the island. Hertz, Avis and some lesser-known, Island rental agencies are all represented. A car-ferry reservation costs about $140, round-trip, but you must book early to get the dates you want. SteamshipAuthority.com accepts reservations beginning in early January of each year. Reserve early, as summer spaces quickly fill.
Other Activities: Oldest carousel in the US; golf, mini golf, hiking, kayaking, video/pinball arcades, shopping, movie theaters, night clubs, health clubs.
Oak Bluffs has the best variety of restaurants, serving both American and ethnic foods.
We highly recommend Linda Jean's Restaurant on Circuit Avenue (Oak Bluffs' main street) for family dining or just a cup of tea or 'coffee and....' They are open all day and their prices are reasonable. We suggest you get there by 5:00 p.m. for an evening meal, especially on a weekend.
Downtown Vineyard Haven has a working, restored movie theater as well as restaurants, cafes, clothing and souvenir shops.
Island-made ice cream is plentiful in Vineyard Haven, Oak Bluffs and Edgartown.
If you take a ride to Aquinnah (Gay Head) to see the famous clay cliffs, be sure to stop by Alley's General Store in Chilmark. It really does have a little of everything including a working Post Office.
Have fun at the mini-golf in Vineyard Haven. They also have Island ice cream for after the game.
Golf: Public golf courses are located in Vineyard Haven and Oak Bluffs. The nearest, Farm Neck, is less than a mile from the house. Vineyard Haven also has miniature golf with home-made ice cream on the premises.

Year Purchased: 1919
About the owner: I (Dana) am retired after 34 years on the railroad with Penn Central, ConRail and finally Metro-North Commuter Railroad. . I have also volunteered at The Shore Line Trolley Museum since 1968, located just outside of New Haven, CT. We restore and operate full sized trolley cars that run on real tracks, drawing power from an overhead wire. Our average trolley was built 103 years ago. It is our goal to make at least two different trolleys available for rides each day. One ticket allows you to ride all day. The trolleys operate every 30--45 mins. dependent upon the number of volunteer operators and visitors. After your visit, please consider joining our group. We will train you to run a trolley including all aspects of the visitor experience. I can send you written info if you'd like to have it. . I'm your contact person for all aspects of our Vineyard house. You speak directly with me or my wife, Tina, so you do not have to deal with an agent.
Why the Owner Chose East Chop:
The house is centrally located between the downtowns of Oak Bluffs and Vineyard Haven with easy access to all Island points. Privacy: the yard is bordered on 3 sides by hedges and dense forest beyond 2 of them. The 4th side has a solid white fence and the house faces Temahigan Ave. and the saltwater of Vineyard Haven harbor.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
Your Vineyard yard has enough room for 2 or 3 yard games to be played at the same time on a lush green lawn. The house has a large, wrap-around porch with many chairs that can be moved to your liking. A round picnic table on the porch, seating 9, can be used for a meal even if it is raining. A smaller table which seats 4, may be moved to the lawn or porch. It can be assigned to your children as the 'kids' table.' Adding the dining room table, there are 3 for playing cards, other games and puzzles. The dining room is best for puzzles and may be used regardless of the weather. . There are 'back stairs' in the house between the kitchen and queen bedroom above it. See if the children can figure out which staircase has more steps. How 'bout which one is steeper? Adults: watch your heads on the back stairway, whether going up or down it. . New for 2014 is a hot and cold Outdoor Shower with enclosure. This is the 3rd of 3 showers that the house has.
