Joe's trip to Greece

An excellent, well equipped and comfortable apartment within walking distance of the centre of Athens. Minutes from a handy Metro station on the line to the airport which couldn’t be handier. Safe neighbourhood close to the Hilton Hotel and just around the corner from what must be one of the best restaurants in Athens. Slept well in comfortable beds. The apartment is generally very quiet and the newly installed double glazing kept the morning rush hour traffic noise to a minimum. Kitchen is well equipped and there is a good supermarket and other food shops (including a good wine shop!) all within easy walking distance. A real home from home close to the centre of Athens which we simply could not fault – when next in Athens we will look to stay here!

This was just a great place to be in the heart of the city and feel at home. Morning walk in the neighborhood to get fresh baked goods and coffee! Felt like a native! Smooth transaction and attention to detail by owner!!!! Thanks!!!!

The apartment was fantastically beautiful. A large, lovely terrace where we stayed much. Located at the top with the most beautiful views of the acropolis. Can highly recommend a stay in this beautiful apartment.

Fabulous stay!

We spent a week in Athens prior to Easter 2011. What a truly wonderful experience to have stayed in this apartment with my husband and eleven year old son. The location couldn't have been more ideal and the weekly metro pass made travel around the city easy and convenient. The photographs don't do justice to the loveliness and comfort of the apartment. The upper level garden terrace is exquisite and the neighborhood was quiet yet lively enough for suburbanites to get a real taste of city living. This was truly all the comforts a home could provide. Thank you

Excellent way to visit Athens

Dear Galatea Thank you very much for your wonderful hospitality. For all the reasons identified in this book we have had a very comfortable and enjoyable stay in your apartment. Unfortunately, our stay was cut short so we could not settle in as much as we would have wanted.-something this apartment is perfect for. In addition to all the compliments others have made about the warm and helpful welcome, the pastries and wine, the directions and suggestions, the delightful décor and attention to detail, we would like to add that the bed is very comfortable both in terms of support and linen (often not the case in even decent hotels), and that the apartment is fantastically quiet. As a couple travelling with an infant with jet-lag that has been a god-send. Also, the fact that you have the necessities covered in the kitchen and bathroom (e.g. olive oil, soap, plates, pots and pans etc) was really nice for our short stay. The light in this apartment is also great, your plants divine. I am having a hard time finding things to suggest to make people’s stay better! Maybe, an inexpensive CD player? Really it is the PERFECT, warm, safe, central, little apartment that truly is a home away from home. Best of luck to you in your further travels. Lots of love and a very happy new year. Charming Athens Apartment

October 6th, 2010 So glad we decided to stay in this apartment. You were truly a gracious host. Your warm welcome upon our arrival and assistance with our questions about Athens was much appreciated. Thanks for all the tips on having a great time in Athens. We loved the restaurant down the block, Vlassis… so much so that we ate there again and again. Also thanks for letting us use your computer, printer and the internet. The four of us had a very relaxing time here and really enjoyed the terrace and the convenience of all the markets and cafes in the neighborhood. Taking the metro was also easy, being only one block away. The apartment was quiet and comfortable - - a soothing haven after a busy day sightseeing.

We leave tomorrow after two wonderful weeks in the islands and 5 days in Athens. It took some adjusting to the busyness of the city, but this lovely apartment made the transition easier. Such a pleasant spot! Loved our time in Athens - those who said we only needed to spend a day or so were wrong. More time allowed us to really know the city and love it.

Intimate Neighborhood Oasis

Guest: A and J (Tucson, AZ)
Date of Stay: 09/07/10 Review Submitted: 10/02/10

My husband and I felt so at home in this beautiful apartment. We arrived and Galatea immediately welcomed us and even directed us to her personal dentist as my husband had a toothache. She and the apartment were very gracious. The rooftop garden is lovely night and day. It truly is an in-town oasis. The surrounding neighborhood is full of wonderful cafes and friendly people. It is easy to walk to the Metro station and from there get anywhere within Athens including Piraeus and the train station. I would highly recommend this comfortable and well-appointed apartment to any travelers wanting to experience Athens from the perspective of a resident.

We stayed in the apartment for 3 days in March 2010 and it was everything we wanted and more. Great location out of tourist congestion, easy walk to metro, warm and welcoming decor, fabulous rooftop garden for relaxation and breakfast, even better than the pictures.

Great location, great character

Unlike sterile hotel rooms I’ve stayed in around the world, this place has a distinct personality. The art, the lamps, the details, all add up to a unique setting that reflects the owner’s personality. Our family has had a wonderful stay here. The location is ideal, being close to the metro. We were able to go adventuring daily and return to the quiet sanctuary of the apartment at the end of a long day. Our only disappointment was that the roof garden was “closed for winter” as it would have made an ideal spot for watching the full moon and partial lunar eclipse on New Year’s Eve. We will definitely recommend this place to any of our friends who plan a visit to Athens in the future. The free wifi was fabulous! The place had distinct personality and it smelled good too! As a family of four, we’ve stayed in many apartments all over Europe during the last five years and this one was one of the best, but what really made it rise to the top of our list was the warmth and kindness extended by the owner. This is not part of what we expected as part of our rent payment, but she was there whenever we had a genuine need because she’s just a great person. The apartment itself was exactly as described and very comfortable. Its location very close to the Metro stop made getting to and from the airport very easy along with getting almost anywhere in Athens. We didn’t use the kitchen very much (though it is quite nice) because there were stores, bakeries, restaurants and shops all within an easy 5-minute walk to keep us well fed. It was very nice to return to after a long day of visiting sites.Otherwise, as previously stated, it was exactly as described and in re-reading the other reviews after staying there, they are honest in their praise as well. Thanks for hosting us in your wonderful home. The WestlandsBrussels, Belgium and Mukilteo, Washington, USA

We stayed in this wonderful apartment over a year ago...I just came across this listing in my files, and realized that I had not commented... This apartment was PERFECT. Beatiful, interesting architecture and decor, and very well located (we walked nearly everywhere). The BEST part for us was the lovely, spacious rooftop garden! Each evening, we could go up there and enjoy the city and the atmosphere...I cannot imagine being cooped up in a hotel or crammed apartment when an option like this is available. Highly recommended.

This apartment is lovely. We just spent a wonderful 10 days in Athens, staying here, and we all have nothing but great things to say. The location was perfect as it is close to the metro (subway) and only two stops from Syntagma Square. (A word here about the Athens subway – we are from New York and the subway system in Athens is probably the nicest, cleanest, most efficient subway we have ever encountered with easy-to-use token machines that take all your spare small coins, clearly marked signage and announcements at every stop in Greek and English. It was so easy to get around Athens and even to Piraeus.) But more about the apartment. It has very gracious dimensions with a large dining room where we hosted dinners for 8 a couple of evenings. The furniture is an eclectic mix of antiques and the overall feel is that of staying in a close friend’s home (one with good taste!) The roof terrace is simply spectacular and at the end of a hot day tramping around the Athenian sites, we all sat back and enjoyed the late evening with drinks on the roof. Dinner at 9:00 p.m. in the dining room and enjoying life like true Athenians!! Terrific.

This is a very, very special place. I'm in the vacation rental business myself, and I swear I have never encountered any better vacation apartment than this one, and in fact, just one as good as it: my own :) 1. It's in the very best area of Athens - a city that you may love or hate, and it depends very much on which part of it you're staying in. This area is not only quite upscale, it's also conveniently located to the center, the metro station being just around the corner, with just two or three stops to go to the center; AND for who has his/her own car, it's the one and only part of Athens where parking is easy. 2. The building where the apartment is located is an architectural gem from the 1930s - obviously built by an important architect. And everything is still in original state, light switches included. 3. The apartment is just marvellous. A dream of refined quaint taste, and spacious, too. Very personal, full of collector's items (from Athens' highly recommended flea market, I guess). Letting this wonderful home is quite courageous of the host, and I wish her only nice guests, who appreciate such a nice furniture & decoration and don't destroy anything. This leads to 4. the host: she is nice, helpful, and extraordinarily easy-going. No regulations like "don't you do this and don't you do that", just "here is your key, and have fun". In this respect, again, I wish her only the most considerate guests. Robert Schlesinger
