I lived at The Kealakekuan for 8 weeks while in the area for a work assignment. I would recommend this place for a stay. Since I have no real complaints, I decided to review The Kealakekuan in a pro/con list... Pros: Good location (within a block of the post office, neighborhood bar & grill, bus stops, several ATMs and a coffee shop, a 10 minute walk to the hospital/1 minute to drive it). The owner is very knowledgable about the area. The beds were really comfortable. Rooms were spacious and breezy. Private full bathroom. I always felt safe and wouldn't have been concerned if I had forgotten to lock my bedroom door. Cons: The traffic from the highway out front is pretty noisy during the day but it does quiet down during night time hours. The kitchen is fully equipped but is very limited in cooking supplies, glasses/cups and silverware. The wifi cuts in and out but I do believe he is currently remedying this.

My trip to Kona
My trip to Kona
I stayed here recently when I went to the big island. First, I was intrigued by seeing a victorian homes in Hawaii, and the Keakekuan is a fine example of the era. The room I stayed it was very comfortable, clean breezy. It conveniently located and a short walk from a lot of historical sites. the prices were reasonable and I can't say enough about the owner Charles, he knew so much about the island I relyed on him to help plan my days there.
