Owner's Profile

Owner Description

Thank you for your interest in my vacation rental, Vista Del Rio. I am a custom woodworker, owner of Spitzer Woodworking in California, and I have designed this property to make it as comfortable and efficient for renters as possible. I hope you enjoy this town and its offerings as much I do. This is a picture of my daughters and I enjoying horseback riding on a Bandon beach, one of the wonderful activities available close to my rental.

Why the Owner Chose Bandon

I live in California and Bandon is quite a drive, but it is a gorgeous drive! The journey is almost as good as the destination. I have driven up and down the Oregon coast and chose Bandon because of its unique attractions. Bandon is an underrated gem of the Oregon Coast, with its abundance of endangered wildlife viewing. Bandon Marsh National Wildlife Refuge protects the largest remaining tidal salt marsh within the Coquille River estuary. Located near the mouth of the Coquille River, it is an oasis for migrating shorebirds, waterfowl, coho salmon, and threatened and endangered species including Bald Eagle and California Brown Pelican. At high tide one can see hundreds of the brown pelican hunting. Late December, early January is a wonderful time for whale watching, just a walk away. All the beaches are protected as State and National Parks. Tide-pooling is always a fun activity. One can see thousands of anemones and mussels in a single pool. The wildlife viewing options do not stop there, there is also a wild game park, where one can pet tigers and lions, just ten miles away. If watching wildlife is not your thing, there are fishing charters available almost year round just out of the pier, which is steps away from the rental. Crabbing you can do from the docks and I provide the gear. This is one of my favorite things in Bandon, as I am from Maryland and love a fresh crab cake!

The Unique Benefits of this House

I am so fond of my house and location because I can walk to all my favorite Bandon activities. I chose this home specifically because it is a central location in the town and because its size and layout are perfect for a family gathering. I drive most of my work days, so I am relieved to have the chance to take a day off from my car. Usually I will wake up with the sun and walk down to the docks, grab some breakfast at Two Loons Cafe, and then head out for a stroll along Beach Loop Drive to take in the expansive beaches with their breathtaking rock formations and wildlife. The beach looks completely different each day depending on the surf and weather. There are wonderful rocks, shells, and driftwood to be found on the beaches. From my house, Vista Del Rio, I have access to the grocery store, artisan shops, restaurants, bars, and nature activities on foot. The towns of Coos Bay, with its great antique shops, and Coquille, with its great fishing, are both less than a half hour drive away. This is the perfect location, right near the 101, to stay a week and get away from it all or plan activities depending on my mood. Some of my favorite excursions include riding horses on the beach (the stables are right on Beach Loop Drive) and doing the Jet Boat Tours on the Klamath. The Bandon Museum is also a must-see and great activity for a rainy day. Only $2/person and you can see the complete history of Bandon in pictures and learn about the vibrant history and culture of the area.

Weekend at Bandon....

Date of Stay: 10/03/08 Review Submitted: 10/14/08

We celebrated my son's 30th birthday at this home. It was perfect for the 8 adults that attended. We also had a 10 month old and the only issue with that was the stairs. But, we brought a gate which helped that situation. It is well equipped with everything one would need for a weekend of playing and cooking. It is an older house so you have some of the creaky floor noises but it was clean and well furnished. Getting to the beach is a bit of a walk and it was good we had cars for that adventure. Walking to old town was a piece of cake. We would use this home again for a trip to Bandon.

Our stay was fun because we could walk into old town at any time to replenish supplies or get a bite to eat as we stroll along the beautiful harbor area--a real treat. The home was comfortable and well positioned to access varios beaches or shopping.

Our family loved this Oregon Coast get away! The house is ideal for two families (or a family with teens!) with the two upstairs bedrooms and the large downstairs room (twin & queen) and separate bath. Well furnished, close walk to the beach and cozy town. Great area - we took amazing day trips and had fun exploring the Oregon Coastline. Must do: ATV trip over the dunes.

What a memorable vacation we had in this house! It was so comfortable and roomy. We took many walks into town for shopping, eating and even crabbing off of the pier. We went to the beach, went horseback riding and rafted down the Rogue river. It's in a perfect location!
