Imagine 20 private wooded acres with 1,500 feet of shorefront, a large sand beach, a clam cove, a beautiful dock, two deep-water moorings, and expansive views overlooking the ocean and Lazy Gut Islands.
Now add a large, open lodge with comfortable seating area and kitchen, four individual cottages for sleeping or quiet relaxation, and the peaceful wooded setting, and you have Sunshine House! This amazing property is perfect for a group of eight to ten people and is a wonderful place for children. Each of the four cabins is attractively furnished and has its own charming view of woods and water. The "children's cabin" has two twins pushed together as a king bed, plus a loft where a couple of older kids can have their own space.
The setting of this contemporary house is breathtaking, and the property is ideal for boaters. Your boat can be tied at the dock, where the water at low tide is deep enough to allow it to be left there. If you prefer or if a storm is brewing, there are two moorings as well. Bring your kayaks along (or rent them on the island). The dock has a specially built platform for easy access in and out of a kayak.
As an added bonus for renters with boats, the owner of Sunshine House also owns Big Coombs Island, a 25-acre bit of paradise just a bit south, toward Isle au Haut. This is one of the many forever-wild islands in Penobscot Bay. You may visit for an afternoon or camp there overnight.
Located at the end of the Sunshine Road near the internationally renowned Haystack Mountain School of Crafts, Sunshine House is on the peaceful southern tip of Deer Isle. All the activities listed are available on our small island, with golf and tennis at the Island Country Club, and various shops, galleries, and restaurants scattered throughout Deer Isle and Stonington, with the small villages of Sunshine and Sunset on the eastern and western sides of the island, respectively.
