My family (2 adults, 2 kids) just got back from La Bahia, where we had a lovely vacation. The accommodation was comfortable and the location on the quiet beach was perfect. It was also easy to get around to see the sights (Tulum, cenotes, etc.). We ate in 2 nights, which was a nice break from eating out at the excellent restaurants in the neighbourhood. The wind was quite high and the sea was choppy for the first few days that we were there, but we swam at Akumal beach on those days, and saw turtles there too.

Recommended for: Age 55+, families with young children, sightseeing.

My family of five, including three young adults, truly enjoyed our time here. We appreciated the wealth of information and guidance and professionalism in the booking process. The staff was helpful and efficient. It was great to have daily maid service from the friendly housekeepers. The condo itself is very comfortable and relaxed. The view and location is priceless. The living room has windows and screens on three sides, providing an indoor/outdoor feel, yet with curtains for privacy as well. We loved the fact that those who wanted to snorkel and scuba dive could easily do so and those who wanted to read in the comfortable chairs or hammock or walk into town could do that as well. All without getting in the car. Hope to return someday!

We loved our stay at La Bahia!

Our stay at La Bahia was fantastic...the office staff was very helpful, the cleaning staff was very professional. No complaints. We had to cut our stay short because of a family emergency, but hope to return next year at the same time. Our condo neighbors were also helpful...many return customers we would love to see again. I loved the setting, could not ask for a better spot on the beach...it was great to just walk onto the sand from the patio. We are already missing our home away from home! Sincerely, Kim Yeager

Everything was perfect. We hope to return for a third visit. We stayed one week this time. We love the view, location, and ample space in the condo. It's also very nice to have a king size bed (with a comfortable mattress), internet that is fast (and working), and daily maid service. We noticed the new TV, but never found time to watch anything. We consider this one of our top vacation locations.

We had a wonderful stay at La Bahia. The condo is in an excellent location on the beach with fabulous views. It is probably the best location on the beach. The condo was clean, well furnished & staff on site are friendly & helpful. We were able to walk to several restaurants and sink our feet in the sand while enjoying fabulous food at a very reasonable price, I was pleasantly surprised by the great quality of the food. We also rented a golf cart (across from the condo) to drive into the town, snorkel at the lagoon & to catch the collectivo buses. The high light of our stay was watching, for our first time, a turtle nest hatch right outside of the condo. It was amazing. The snorkeling was pretty good - not a lot of fish but there are turtles everywhere and some beautiful coral. The lagoon is also a terrific spot to snorkel. I would definitely recommend this condo & hopefully will be able to return soon.

The condo is great. Apart from the great location, sea turtles laying eggs on the beach, and the chill atmosphere of being on the ocean, staying at this condo was like being at a resort in Cancun only without all of the tourists and people trying to get you to buy things. Maid service was great, and the beds were super comfortable. All of us slept like we've never slept before. The town of akumal is perfect for a vacation setting without all of the tourism. There are a number of restaurants (breakfast, lunch, and dinner) close by and fun little shops to look around in. But don't feel like you have to go out to eat because there are a number of grocery stores close and everything you need to cook is already in the condo. Bring your own biodegradable sunscreen!!! All sunscreens are like $15 (1500 pesos) or more. My favorite part about staying at this condo was the fact that they had recycling and composting. I'm from Portland or and we just recently got a city-wide composting program. It was just really cool to see it there as well. Great place to stay, wish I hadn't had to leave.

Thank you for a fabulous week at La Bahia 2. It is very easy to get to from the Cancun airport. The staff at the condo are very friendly and accomodating. The water and the beach in front of the condo is amazing. We saw lots of sea life snorkling in half moon bay and a couple days before we left the turtles arrived. We enjoyed many restaurants in Akumal. Turtle Bay Cafe became are usual breakfast spot. I could go on on about how wonderful our vacation was. We will definitely return.

My wife and I flew into Cancun from Milwaukee. After meeting our son, his wife, and their 13 month old son at the airport (they flew from New York), we rented a car for our drive to Akumal. The condo was perfect for the 5 of us. We stayed four nights. There was a porta crib for the baby. Amenities included internet, free USA today, off-street parking, 2 bedrooms (king bed for us), 2 bathrooms, plenty of space, and most importantly there was first floor walk-out to the beautiful beach. The view was gorgeous! Daily maid service was nice - they washed our dishes too. The area had excellent restaurants. We enjoyed Turtle Bay Beach Cafe for breakfast, Lucy's Kitchen for lunch (doesn't look impressive, but great fish tacos), Lol-Ha for dinner (on the beach), La Buena Vida for drinks and appetizers while watching the NFL playoff games (just down the road), and Zamas for dinner (near Tulum) to name a few. We enjoyed the beach and went to the ruins in Tulum (must see) and the Ya Ku Lagoon (just down the road and worth checking out). The condo was clean and well maintained and exactly as described - just what we wanted. The on-site management office made check-in easy. We plan to return and stay even longer next time.

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Akumal. The condo was better than expected and the breeze that came through right off the ocean made sleeping a dream. The people here are very, very nice and very helpful. We had a dinner, made by Letecia, in our condo one night and LOVED the experience. The town feels more authentic then a larger city- such as Puerto Adventruas, that we also love- and the food prices are better. The supermarket in Tulum is FANTASTIC! And cheap too! We would love to come back here!!!

Return to La Bahia

Family w/ 2 girls 12 & 13. We stayed in a La Bahia condo 2 years ago, an excellent stay and a tough act to follow, but this past week succeeded. There are a lot of nice condos in Half Moon Bay, it would be the exception if you managed to go wrong. But in addition to the location and the condo there is a third factor which can make a big difference: the support staff. There will always be some small issues that come up, sometimes large ones. The manager at La Bahia was exceptional, friendly, responsive, and creative in finding solutions. We snorkeled like crazy, ate at La Cueva (3x), La Buena Vida, and once on the pedestrain-only section of Playa Del Carmen, visited the Coba ruins (vs Tulum last time) - about a 45 minute drive, and went fishing - caught 7 barracuda over a 3 hours (arranged w/ waiter at La Cueva & it included them cooked up our catch for us!). We will be back!

what a pleaseant surprize unit was more attractive than described maidand management were helpful and very gracious pristine beach lovely friendly town with several great restaurants and beach bars to enjoy and meet people. small shops and great prices for souvineers and picking up items you might have forgotten. I would park my car and never leave this little town until it was time to return home. However for the first time visitor there are tours available and most are a short distance away. the manager even printed our boarding passes. we had a delightful vacation and intend to return soon

Great Vacation

Took our first non-resort trip to Akumal, Mexico and had the best time. We were a little unsure of how it would be having to rent a car, drive around, park, and find groceries. My husband and myself had only done all inclusive resorts and we can honestly say I don't think we will do it again. We felt so comfortable with all the locals and the entire town of Akumal. Our room was amazing and had everything we needed and more. Clean, spacious, and how can you not love the sound and view of the ocean. The staff at La Bahia were friendly and helpful. Our security guard even came to our door to show us the seas turtles laying eggs multiple times. We ate at many great restaraunts near La Bahia, and right in town. Great food and atmosphere. The local grocery store also had everything we needed for snacking, or meals. We visited many senotes, took a cab to playa de carmen for a fun dinner and night out, and feel as if we still wanted to do so much more. We can only say wonderful things about Akumal and La Bahia. We hope to be back soon.

Wonderful Vacation

We had a wonderful time in your condo. Everyone was very courteous and helpful, especially the security guy at night. He was so kind and knocked on our door when a turtle was nesting and also another night when eggs were hatching. We were so fortunate to be able to watch a turtle nest right beside our patio. We sat on the patio and watched the whole process that took about 3 hours. We also watched turtle playing in the bay right in front of the condo. The beds were very comfortable and it was a much more pleasant experience sleeping than the last time we were there. We will definitely be returning to Akumal and this particular condo. It really is Paradise! Can't wait to come back

We just returned and had a wonderful vacation! My parents-in-law said it was paradise. The condo is very nicely decorated, so clean and comfortable. The beds were also very comfortable- we all slept great- and it was nice to have so many amenities in the kitchen, as well as beach towels and extra snorkel masks (one set got left at home so that was helpful). WIFI was good to have and the signal was strong since it's right outside your unit The location is fabulous. Although it was windy and wavy, the left side of the bay was always calmer and we did quite a bit of snorkeling in that area. We also saw many turtles out front. The weather was of course hot, but the patio was always breezy and comfortable. All the staff were very friendly and helpful including the new office manager, security guard, maids, and groundskeepers. The groundskeepers were tidying up the coconut trees and offered us each one and when the security guard saw us trying to find hermit crabs, he helped us and found a big one. The maid left the condo spotless each day which was wonderful. We normally do a lot of day trips, but were so comfortable at the condo that we didn't want to leave. We did manage to fit in Dos Ojos, the lagoon, Tulum, and Playa del Carmen though. My parents in law are already talking about another trip next year and we've recommended your condo to many of our friends and colleagues. An absolutely beautiful condo in an incredible setting. Snorkeling in Half Moon Bay is spectacular. You are steps from the ocean in this condo. The cpndo has absolutely everything you need to make your stay comfortable. A wonderfully quiet and restful location far from the crowds in Cancun. I couldn't recommend more highly!

"Once again, we thoroughly enjoyed our visit to La Bahia #2. The location on Half Moon Bay is perfect, and the views from the condo are spectacular - we could see the Caribbean Sea from every room and watch the sunrise every morning while drinking our coffee on the patio. We love the convenience of being on the ground floor and walking onto the beach directly from the patio. The water is only about 30 yards away, and we could watch the turtles pop up for air just looking out the living room sliders. Snorkeling in the bay is wonderful - sea turtles, rays, squid, parrotfish, and many other colorful, tropical fish. Akumal has a lot to offer with its great restaurants and laid-back atmosphere. We highly recommend this condo!"

"Hola fellow Houstonians! This was one of the best weeks of weather we have had in the 28 years we have been coming to Akumal. Saw lots of turtles very near the shore in Half Moon Bay. The food in the local restaurants is wonderful as usual. We enjoyed the location of your condo (we had stayed on the first floor in other condos). The staff has been great, and this is one of the better stocked condos we have used. We certainly enjoyed it!"

"Thank you for sharing your home with us! We loved our stay here. The snorkeling was fabulous. We went to Tulum and Coba and would highly recommend a visit to either. Chedraui Supermarket on 307 was easy to navigate in spite of my limited Spanish. We did venture to Playa del Carmen - good for shopping but very busy and congested. Office and cleaning staff were very helpful and gracious. Many thanks!"

Vacation from hell!

The condo was beautiful as was the location. Our trip was cut short as we were robbed of all our money while at Playa del Carmen. Had the safe worked in the condo we would never have take all our money and credit cards with us. I was equally saddened by the fact we were not even given any refund on the condo rental after leaving half way through.

Owner response: In response to the “vacation from hell” comments, as Owners, we don’t know the circumstances of which the renters we robbed in Playa del Carmen. However, it is very unfortunate that this situation happened. Obviously, caution should be taken at all times whether traveling abroad or at home, especially when carrying a large amount of money and/or credit cards. The safe in the condo is in proper working order so we don’t understand why it could not be utilized. We hope this does not deter future prospective renters from visiting our beautiful condo in Akumal as attested to by the previous renters.

We're back from a fabulous vacation and still dreaming of warm sand between our toes and listening to the waves at night. I miss having my morning coffee sitting on the beach while watching our son play in the waves first thing. The staff at La Bahia was very attentive and helpful. Our maid was on top of everything and the unit was in tip-top shape every day. I would definitely come back to stay at La Bahia.

It was awesome!!! Only had about 10 minutes of rain the whole trip. Nothing but sunshine, swimming, site seeing, and snorkeling! What a splendid time was had by all. The staff were all very friendly, welcoming, and so helpful when we had any questions. We had no problems; they were top notch. Your condo is just what we needed, just like home away from home.

We spent ten beautiful days at your condo and we can say only good things about it! The condo was cozy and clean! The cleaning ladies did a great job every day to keep it spotless. The ocean was beautiful and very worm; great place for snorkeling: a lot of fish, beautiful corals and turtles. The staff in La Bahia was very nice and helpful. We are definably coming back!

We just returned last evening from your piece of heaven. It was WONDERFUL. The condo was perfect. The sunrise from the patio was awesome and the full moon dancing off the bay directly in front of the condo was breath taking! I am so glad we found your place and will return in the near future! I am still in awe with just my memories!!!!!

The condo was beautiful, clean, and perfect for our family of five. Very convenient for the kids to run and play in the sand right out the door while the baby was sleeping. The snorkeling was phenomenal. The weather was beautiful every day. I'm missing the gorgeous view from the condo right now, and we took lots of pictures to remind us of this fantastic trip! The staff at La Bahia were very attentive and wonderful. What a terrific job they all do to make sure everyone is comfortable and happy.

We had a wonderful time at your place. We had never been to Mexico as a family, and we were so, so pleased with Akumal in general and the condo in particular. The instructions you sent us were also very helpful. The staff onsite was superb. Wally gave us wonderful beach recommendations. Javier picked and husked coconuts for our kids. Landi was friendly and thorough in cleaning - we felt very welcomed by them.

We loved the condo. I hated to leave. We got so comfortable there and really made it home. The children loved the beach and the hammock. We had breakfast every morning on the patio after I walked to Turtle Bay Cafe to pick up pastries. On our second day we went to the nearby lagoon and then to Akumal Bay - both were great for the kids. We found the people, both local and tourists, to be very warm and welcoming, and we loved the small-town atmosphere. I am still carrying the memory with me; it was such a special place and time for our family, I loved every minute of it.

Our family reunited here for a relaxing week. Most mornings consisted of walks, runs, or lap swimming in Yal-Ku Lagoon, followed by breakfasts of coffee and fruit from the market out on the balcony. We sighted many sea turtles including a grand finale last night when one came to lay its eggs next to the neighbor's patio! For other wildlife, we saw iguanas and lizards, a small monkey playing behind the parking lot, colorful birds, blue crabs, hermit crabs, and the neighborhood cat! Thanks for having us!

What a magical spot you have here - it was perfect. We greatly enjoyed having our morning coffee out on the beach each morning and then spending the day exploring the area. In the evening, it was so relaxing to just kick back in your very comfortable condo. Last night we experienced a wonderful carnival and bullfight with the locals. This evening we had a wonderful cook come in to cook us a Mayan meal. We've fallen in love with Akumal and will definitely be coming back.

We truly enjoyed staying in your beautiful condo. The most comfortable bed we have ever slept on in Mexico (7th time)! We will miss the sound of the waves, the great beach, and the relaxed atmosphere of Akumal. We made good use of the wireless Internet to send photos back to Grandma and Grandpa!

What a great place to stay. It was our first trip to Mexico. Everyone I know does the all-inclusive thing, but we sure appreciated the more quiet beaches and the options we had with renting a car. Snorkeling was a real adventure. We saw turtles, barracudas, manta rays, trumpetfish, and lots more. Hasta la vista!

Thank you for an unforgetable introduction to Mexico and much spirit-healing peace. I'll remember the sound of the waves when I'm in the middle of our American life (hopefully it will spread out to those around us) and the underwater "flight" of the turtles we saw together.

In Akumal it's 85 degrees, the wind has died down, and the sea is calm. Snorkeling in the bay is satisfying to the point that we've neglected to schedule a dive. We do come here to relax, after all, and we think we have achieved our goal. Here in Half Moon Bay, life goes on as relaxed as the Akumal we came to love over 20 years ago. How can we not like hanging out with the turtles?

We had a wonderful time in your condo on the beach! The view is unbelievable, and we have seen so many different fish and sea life (barracuda, octopus, turtle, and fish in all the colours of the rainbow). The house is very comfortable, even with five adults - it was great, thanks!

We were so thankful to stay at your condo. We went into Tulum and to the cenotes and really enjoyed Yal-Ku lagoon. We also want to see the turtles again and do some more fishing. It was a wonderful vacation with great weather. Thanks so much!

What a beautiful place! The accommodations were perfect. Thanks for sharing your place. We really enjoyed our time here - snorkeling with the turtles, fishing with Pedro and Ivan. Can't wait to come back again.

We had a beautiful time in this apartment. Our 4-year-old daughter was feeling immediately at home, giving us the possibility to enjoy our vacation in this beautiful amazing place. The easy, homey feeling we experienced was a surprise. The staff was nice and helpful, and we hope to come back to do all the things we couldn't this time.

Feb. 25-March 3, 2007 we were at this lovely condo! Warm weather, warm water and the great area made for a wonderful mid-winter break. The condo is great - comfortable, convenient and right on the beach. We loved being able to walk to several restaurants, a snorkeling lagoon just up the road and the little village had some lovely shops for gifts and souveniers. We ventured out on a few day trips to Talum and Aktun Chen caves and enjoyed both very much, but just being at La Bahia was entertaining and relaxing for us. We saw the turtle(s) every day!

This is a wonderful place to relax and have a good time--very comfortable. Perfect for a family or two couples to have a reunion. It is such a treat to walk out the front door, walk across the beach and go snorkeling in the warm, calm bay. I recommend it highly!
