Black Bear Lodge was the perfect choice to celebrate my parents' 50th wedding anniversary in early April with our family crew of 12, ages rangin from 15 - 75. We were delighted to be presented with the Spring Special which enabled us to enjoy an extra day of gorgeous weather in a gorgeous setting and home. The location is even more breathtaking than the photos. We took advantage of the back deck for both sunrise coffee and sunset cookouts. The home is lovely and worked out just right for our needs with a great kitchen for our eat-in meals, enough space to gather for our family feasts and game fest but also enough separate space for quiet time when needed. Great comfortable couch, very tastefully decorated bedrooms(great views to wake up to), nice bathrooms. Matt was a pleasure to work with and was very responsive, accommodating and helpful in arranging our stay. We would certainly stay at Black Bear Lodge again and recommend this property to others. We were able to take advantage of the extended and last day is ski season with the family taking The Plunge at Wintergreen and a great breakfast at the Coppermine at the Mountain Inn. We also drove in to Charlottesville for a lovely dinner at Ivy Inn. We look forward to enjoying another visit!Recommended for: Families with young children, age 55+, girls getaway, families with teenagers.

The Black Bear Lodge was great. A group of 8 of us stayed there for the weekend, but there is plenty of room for more people. The fireplace was lovely and the views were spectacular! Highly recommended for groups of friends and/or family.Recommended for: Families with young children, tourists without a car, girls getaway, adventure seekers, families with teenagers, sightseeing.

We recently rented the Black Bear Lodge for Winter Break, returning for our third stay. We live in Wake Forest, NC and it is such an easy drive from the Raleigh/Durham area. Black Bear Lodge has everything our family and friends need for a ski weekend or a summer trip to the mountains. It is spacious, nicely decorated, well taken care of, and most importantly, clean. The owners are friendly, accommodating, accessible and eager to make our stay pleasant and enjoyable. We are always very comfortable in the winter months and don’t deny ourselves the use of the gas logs. One of the finer features: the heated tile floors in the bathrooms. The three level home is nice in that it affords the kids the use of the first level, while allowing others the use of the second floor for conversation and the third floor for those who like to retire to bed early. At Wintergreen, we have participated in the learn-to-ski program and our small children are now experienced skiers. It is so easy to take the skiers to the lift for drop off or park and watch them ski down the mountain from several observation points. The slopes are close and are easily accessible with less than a 5 minute drive from Black Bear Lodge and we've never had any trouble parking. Our children and friends are always ready to return.Recommended for: Families with young children, girls getaway, adventure seekers, families with teenagers, people with disabilities.

We had 3 families for a total of 13 people stay over a long weekend. We had plenty of space and privacy. The beds were super comfortable and the location was good. The house is nicely decorated and has all the essentials to cook. It was a little difficult to regulate the temperature in the house, some rooms were hotter/colder than others but we had enough covers to stay warm. It was so cold outside we also had a slight issue with ants in our food that was on the counter but we used the Raid that was in the house to take care of it. We were unable to take the shuttle to ski unless we drove to a specific bus stop that was located within a few minute drive, which was ok. The kids enjoyed the game room downstairs. Overall, we would stay here again and we had a very nice trip!Recommended for: Families with young children, families with teenagers.

Just returned from a ladies long weekend at this lovely home in Wintergreen. Nine women, and really plenty of space for everyone. Bedding was very comfortably and plenty of pillows. Kitchen was very well stocked with everything necessary for home entertaining and plenty of really nice glasswear. Owners could not have been more helpful with any suggestions about the area, and even recommended several caterers when asked to do so. Owners were also very prompt in replying to questions. Yes, I would recommend this property to friends. We rented a limo one full day to visit the areas wineries. I would highly suggest this as a fun day in the area.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, families with young children, age 55+, girls getaway, adventure seekers, families with teenagers, sightseeing.

Black Bear Lodge lived up to its name on day one! What a thrill for the two members of our group who were up early enough to see a black bear amble by on the first morning. It was the perfect start for a short but memorable vacation to Wintergreen. I recently vacationed at the Black Bear Lodge with three generations of family. The house served the needs of our group (6 adults, 6 children ages 6-14) beautifully. The basement (a.k.a. kidzone) was the perfect setup for the children! Each pair of adults enjoyed private and luxurious bedrooms and bathrooms on the main and upper levels of the home. The house is comfortable in both design and decor. It is tastefully decorated to feel like home, yet neutral so that you don't feel as if you're a stranger in someone else's home. The house was appointed with everything we needed, although an upgraded set of cutlery and additional dish towels would make meal preparation and cleanup a bit easier. Without question, the home's best feature is the deck overlooking spectacular mountain views. We took up residence there when we were not away enjoying adventures on the mountain. The majority of other homes in the area are on wooded lots with no view. We could not have imagined this vacation without that deck and view. While at Wintergreen, members of our party enjoyed golf, swimming (Chestnut Springs Pool?), and many of the activities at Wintergreen's Discovery Zone (summer tubing, zip-lining, bungee-trampoline jumping, mechanical bull riding, rock wall climbing). There was something for everyone! The home owners were prompt, professional, and courteous in all of our dealings, as were the representatives of the management company who oversaw the rental during our stay. Our one regret is that our stay wasn't longer. We will definitely return to Wintergreen. If we have a group this size, we would rent the Black Bear Lodge again. We highly recommend this rental!Recommended for: Families with young children, girls getaway, adventure seekers, families with teenagers, sightseeing.

Thank you Pam and Matt for a lovely stay at your beautiful home in the mountains. We are so glad we chose your rental house. Everything was as described and pictured in the website.....bright, colorful, tastefully decorated, lovely furnishings, well-stocked, plenty of room, gorgeous views, quiet, everything we we're looking for to enjoy a weekend with our family. Thank you for your prompt response to all questions and for providing all paper products, detergents, etc. That does make for easy traveling. As you mentioned, we only needed to bring our clothes and food. It was our first visit to Wintergreen and we really enjoyed the hiking trails, swimming and golfing. Sitting on the deck with a book and morning coffee or in the evening with some wine was just great; can only imagine how pretty it is in the Fall. We would love to return and highly recommend your home to others looking for a getaway in the mountains. They won't be disappointed!Recommended for: Romantic getaway, families with young children, age 55+, girls getaway, adventure seekers, families with teenagers, sightseeing.

Went to Wintergreen for our annual college friends get-together weekend. We had 5 couples and one infant and the house was GREAT! The beds were very comfortable, the house was clean and well decorated and the kitchen was well stocked with equipment. We had a great time despite the 60 plus mph winds at night that kept most of us up. I would highly recommend this house to anyone who is looking for a relaxing weekend in a great house.Recommended for: Families with young children, girls getaway, adventure seekers, families with teenagers.
