Why the Owner Chose Oak Bluffs
We rented on the Vineyard for years from friends and eventually outgrew their home. We enjoyed the Vineyard so much, we decided to purchase a home here. We really enjoy the proximity to Circuit Avenue and the harbor. It is especially nice that we can walk to the house from the OB ferry! Although we can't see the water, we get great breezes throughout the house in the evening and at night.
The Unique Benefits of this house
We love this house! It isn't grand, but it has character and is a great summer cottage - almost like going to your grandmother's house. We really enjoy the fact that there are a variety of spaces you can go to to be alone, yet still be in tune with everything going on in the house. The wrap around porch and deck are great for an evening pre-dinner drink, or place to relax after enjoying a meal cooked and shared by friends. It also is a great place for an afternoon nap!
This house has a great history of fun social gatherings. The previous owner, Miriam Walker, was known as a great hostess and known for her parties. The roses, lilacs and lavender bushes on the property were planted for her, and we have done our best to revive and care for them, while adding some flowers and plants of our own. The playfulness of the front porch was inspired by her - when we purchased the house the ceiling was hot pink and the floors were bright blue! Many of the furnishings were hers as well. So although we only became Vineyarders 15 years ago, being at 20 Wayland Ave makes us feel like we have always been here. We hope you will feel the same.
