Sunset Crest-Holetown
Holetown (and Sunset Crest next door) is the second largest city in Barbados and is located right in the heart of the west coast of the island. It is a place where history and modern development meet. Holetown is the location of the first settlement of Barbados and was originally named Jamestown, after its benefactor, King James I of England. The Holetown Monument commemorates the first English landing in Barbados in 1625.
In the years since then, the area has seen many changes and is now home to several excellent restaurants, bars, banks, the West Coast shopping mall (with a supermarket, internet and phone services and other various shops), other surrounding shopping areas, hotels, residential areas, medical clinic, police station and post office. Holetown is also the site of the annual Holetown Festival, a colourful local festival of crafts, music and historical parades!
In December 2009, the brand new Boardwalk that runs from Holetown (Surfside Bar and Restaurant) to Sunset Crest (ends at the Beachlands beach that is 5 to 7 minutes from the condo) was completed and this has also added a whole new dimension to the beachside and the local area.
The rental property is a cozy, comfortable, clean unit within a 5 to 7 minute walk to the public beach access entrance. It is approximately 5 minutes south of Holetown and it is also just 5 minutes north of the prestigious Sandy Lane Hotel, beach and Sandy Lane Golf Course (driving distances). Both are within a 10-15 minute walk from the condo.
The unit is located one block from the main beach road (with regular bus service to and from Bridgetown) in Flamboyant Avenue (corner of Mayhoe), Sunset Crest. It is immediately next door to Sunset Mall that has a branch of the First Caribbean bank, a Cave Sheppard store (large specialty duty-free store that sells almost everything), photo shop (with Internet service available for a fee) and other smaller shops.
Immediately adjacent to the mall and across the street from the condo rental unit, there is an Italian Coffee shop ,a local general store (milk, general food supplies, liquor, etc.) and other small shops within a mini-mall. Everything is basically within a short walking distance from the property.
The rental unit itself has a sitting/dining area with a ceiling fan. It has one bedroom with air conditioning and a queen size bed with a lot of closet space. It also has a fully equipped kitchen with fridge, stove and microwave unit. The sitting\dining room has a couch (that converts into a small additional double bed) with two separate lounging chairs, cable TV, DVD and VHS players and a CD-AM\FM radio unit. There is also a small breakfast table with four chairs next to the kitchen.
The en-suite washroom has a shower only (no bathtub) with new fixtures (installed Jan 2010). There is a hot water tank in the kitchen with a separate switch control for turning the hot water on and off as needed. There is also a front patio with a table and chairs for lounging. A separate private parking spot in front of the unit is also available for use at no additional cost. Linen and bath towels are provided and a weekly housecleaning service for stays over 7 days is included as part of the rental. A cell phone is available (if desired) with a pay-as-you-go card (b-mobile) with an additional US$50 refundable deposit (at check-out).
