Whales every day!

Guest: Flip Flop Mama (Santa Cruz, CA)
Date of Stay: 01/24/12 Review Submitted: 02/07/12

From the kitchen table, we were able to watch whales breach and blow every day of our 11 night stay in January. The place is comfortable, a beach condo. Comfortable king size bed, 2 full bathrooms, and a nice couch and TV set up for a mellow evening at home after a day at the beach. Walk around the cliffs to the point, and you can watch the sun set behind Bali Hai. A short drive to Anini Beach or Hanalei, the condo is well placed. And on Thursday evenings, there was a saxophone player at the food court behind Foodland market which we enjoyed. There is a lot to do within a short distance, or just sit on your favorite beach.

Nene Geese and Whale watching

Guest: Peter (Berkeley, California)
Date of Stay: 01/08/12 Review Submitted: 01/23/12

A well kept property in a wonderful location.overlooking the sea and it is only a very short distance to view Hanalei Bay from the Bluff. The listing describes the unit very well - it is actually half of a duplex. The upstairs bedroom is actually a queen sized Murphy bed and has a private shower/toilet. The entire Princeville complex is immaculately kept and it is only a five minute drive to the Foodland supermarket. Don't overlook the Chinese supermarket in downtown Hanalei which is about a 15 minute drive. Prices there tend to be a little more reasonable and they do carry Hanalei poi, which is excellent with pan grilled and rice. It comes in fresh on Thursdays. While in Hanalei stop at Tahiti Nui for a mai tai; their's are excellent and better than you can make yourself, unless you stop at Foodland to buy a bottle of the "secret" ingredient, Orgeat syrup. :o) From the breakfast table we watched the whales (Jan-March) and we had a steady stream of the 'rare and endangered' Nene geese visiting our lanai for handouts. Don't miss the fish tacos at the Kilauea Fish Market which is in Kilauea town, on the road to the Kilauea Lighthouse. For those who have good walking legs, the Na Pali Trail at the end of Kuhio highway is not to be missed. Hike as far as Hanakapiai Valley and if you have strength left hike inland to the waterfall for a Bali Hai moment. If you want to take the hike, strike out as early in the day as possible, otherwise you won't find much parking space once you get to the trail head at Ke'e Beach. One more thing: wear sturdy sandals or sneakers, flip-flops are not suitable for the trrail. Jorg, the owner is very helpful and pleasant to work with. This was our second stay at Pali Kekua and we will return.

Owner response:Thank you for your nice response Peter. Hope to have you back soon. Mahalo, Jorg & Nancy

Wonderful Relaxing Week in North Kauai

Guest: Judy and Blair (Woodbury, MN, USA)
Date of Stay: 06/18/11 Review Submitted: 06/25/11

We had a wonderful week at this charming and welcoming condo. The unit is as described with updated furnishings that are not reflected in the photos. It is well equipped and thoughtfully furnished, with all necessary small appliances, cookware, dishes, etc. Everything was very well maintained. The louvered cross ventilation provides constant tropical breezes which keep the unit comfortable on warm days, and supplies cool fresh air for sleeping, and even breezes in the large shower. There are horizon ocean views across a grassy lawn, complete with Hawaiian birds, including the rare NeNe, red-headed cardinals, egrets, doves, etc. Binoculars are in the unit. The lofted design provides spaciousness, and privacy. The owners were very helpful and accommodating, providing us with a last minute booking when previous arrangements at another resort were not acceptable, local contacts, restaurant recommendations, etc. I can't imagine a better stay, and we will certainly be back, as well as recommending to family and friends. Activities, groceries, and restaurants are nearby. It is a short walk to the private Hideaways Beach, with great snorkeling; the path is paved, but rather steep. Several other lovely beaches are a short ride away, just past Hanalei. The Pali Ke Kua pool and hot tub are very close, and are clean and well-maintained. Tennis and golf are available nearby. Kilauea Lighthouse and Wildlife Refuge is 15 minutes away, with frigates, albatross, and other rare seabirds. Esprit de Corps Riding Academy, near Kapaa, offers expertly guided horseback riding tours through the rainforest, tailored to riding skills (not just head to tail walking). Groceries are available at Foodland in Princeville or Big Save in Hanalei, and fresh fish at the Dolphin Fish Market in Hanalei. There are many good restaurants: CJ's (steak and seafood) and Princeville Bar and Grille (great breakfasts, lunches, and light dinners) in Princeville Center, Kalypso and Dolphin in Hanalei, and the Mediterranean Gourmet at the Hanalei Colony Resort, on the road past Hanalei, and there are multiple good restaurants at the St. Regis and Westin Resorts. It has been wonderful and relaxing all the way around!!

Owner response:Thank you Judy for your review. I am glad you had a great and relaxing vacation at my litlle Hideaway. Please come back soon. I will do anything to make your stay unforgettable. Mahalo, Jorg

A week in paradise

Date of Stay: 06/07/11 Review Submitted: 06/10/11

From our arrival to our departure we forgot all troubles and problems. Waking up looking to the sea and the great diversity of birds, including NeNes, we were enamored with the great location of this unit. Completely furnished to our liking, the time spent here was well worth the visit. Plenty of nearby great restaurants, market, shops and golf, made our stay even more delightful. We are already planning our next years stay at this unit and it's perfect location. Thank you for the great accommodations!

Date of Stay: 07/06/10 Review Submitted: 09/03/10

We have stayed at this condo many times and have always had an excellent experience. The owners are outstanding, extremely friendly and helpful. They assured us the condo is a clean and quiet place, comfortable during the day and cool at night, and they did not exaggerate. They recently added new couches, a larger flat-screen t.v., and a new king-size mattress. There is no one above the unit and only one neighbor next door, so privacy is assured. The condo’s location is terrific, with a fabulous view of the ocean, a short walk to see spectacular sunsets, and a beautiful (nearly deserted) beach. The snorkeling is wonderful—amazing fish and sea turtles! The condo is near other great beaches and shopping is convenient, with a supermarket, small shopping center and farmers’ market a short distance away. We usually prepare fresh fish and the delectable local fruits and vegetables at home, but there are excellent restaurants in the area, such as BarAcuda, Postcards Café and the Dolphin. For local flavor (lau lau, kalua pork, lomi salmon, poi), try the Taro Company food truck. Follow your meal with delicious shave ice from the truck across the lawn. It’s all out of this world.
