Owner's Profile
Owner Description
I came to Lucca, never having heard of the little city, in October 2005 for a month, to travel Italy, taste the wines, meet and enjoy the people and explore the countryside. Little did I know that I would fall in love with this quaint little city, nestled in the heart of Tuscany, and end of buying and renovating a three bedroom, two bath flat in the heart of the ancient city centre!! It took two years to complete the sale and renovation, but I learned to love the people even more and speak the language (somewhat, even though my vocabulary consisted primarily of contractor and building terms!) and I had fun doing the job! I worked with wonderful sub contractors and a great contractor, who's cousin owned the local wine store, and who's nephew was my geometre.
I was lucky that House Hunter's International TV series heard of my adventure and ended up following me through my experience, and filmed the before and after renovation of the flat (although the decorative painting was not completed at the time of the final filming). I met some wonderful people in Lucca, included Vincenza without whose help I could not have finished and furnished my place so beautifully, and they are all still my friends, and each visit, we laugh, drink wine and toast the wonderful little town of Lucca.
Why the Owner Chose Lucca
I think I explain in the paragraph above, but basically I fell in love with Italy, and with Lucca! Tuscany is so beautiful, and so green and lush, and the people are so friendly, how can you not love it all!
The Unique Benefits of this Apartment
I love the fact that I live only a few blocks from the train station, so traveling anywhere the rail system will take me is so easy and uncomplicated! The city is small enough to be able to get around easily, the wall around the city (approximately 2 1/2 miles) is a wonderful place to walk every morning and/or evening and the people are friendly and helpful. The markets are the greatest, and the antique markets once a month are so much fun, and there are so many fun finds as you search through all of the treasures that everyone brings to the city to sell! It's not far to the sea, only about 20 mins., and Florence is just 45 minutes away, and Rome is three hours by train. Everything is so close, and I have become the best Italian driver!!

I have stayed all over Italy and the best places have American kitchens and bathrooms. Yes it was light, bright and beautifully decorated and located in the perfect place for easy walking to everything, but I really appreciated the great kitchen as I love to cook. I also appreciated the new feel but with an old world charm. I would stay there again in a moment.

What a dream come true for all four of us! We met another couple in Italy and traveled all over, but we could not wait until our time to return to Lucca. We had all stayed in Lucca at a very nice hotel a couple of years before, but wanted to come back and rent an apartment where we could feel like we were really living in Italy...well, this is the place! Debora was a tremendous help with answering questions before we planned the trip and helping us find the right apartment for our needs. She went above and beyond to help us. We had concerns regarding the air conditioning being in one bedroom and the living room, but just as Debora said, it was fine. The weather was hot, but we closed the shutters when we left in the AM, and opened everything up in the afternoon and it was wonderful. The terrace was magnificent with 360 views of the Alps, towers and the town. It was our favorite place and we couldn't wait each day to get "home" and upstairs with a bottle of wine and put our feet up! We love to cook and we had a wonderful cooking lesson in our apartment and learned to make many Tuscan specialities...it was a definite highlight. Every morning I was the first up, put on the coffee, went into the living room, opened up the shutters and watched the locals walk their dogs, push their baby carriages and get in an early morning walk on the wall. This was on of the greatest pleasures of staying at Casa Valeria...you really feel a part of the town. You can walk to everything in Lucca in minutes, including the train station for day trips to Florence and beyond. There is a great caffe 2 blocks on the left around the corner, Roberto & Chef Sabrina, where each morning one of us walked to get a pastry for breakfast and several days we enjoyed lunch outside at the caffe...really good fish, pesto Genovese, daily specials of whatever is fresh. Casa Valeria was even better than expected, and I had seen beautiful pictures. The living room, dining room and kitchen were very spacious, the kitchen was actually huge! The living room and the entire Casa was so comfortable, we all said we felt like it was home for us immediately. Debora and Maria were so helpful and explained everything you could possibly want to know about the Casa on arrival and then left for us a fabulous booklet that had tons of information on everything from grocery stores to markets to custom trips, etc... Well, I guess by now you know that none of us would ever stay anywhere in Lucca without the guidance of D
Owner response:Thank you so much Margaret! We do hope that people enjoy the flat in Lucca as much as we do when we are able to take time to visit. Debora is a dream, and does a great job of being a hostess and friend when people stay here at Casa Valeria. I am so very lucky to have her helping me here in Lucca. The review was wonderful, and thank you so much. Do come back again, and bring your friends with you when you come! Valerie

Casa Valeria, Lucca at its Finest

Casa Valeria proved to be a comfortable and strategic location from which to enjoy all that is Lucca at its finest. Our party included three couple and we have the space to enjoy both our privacy aa well as the setting to enjoy meals together. The apartment is well appointed and the kitchen has all that is necessary for a meal. The livingroom furniture is very comfortable and is located at the corner of the building and benefits from wonderful cool afternoon breezes at least in May. All bedrooms had exceptionally comfortable beds. We also benefited from having a washer and dryer available in the apartment. Although the rooftop patio is a plus, there was no shade available to make staying outside during the day comfortable. We also found the winery tour to be an exception experience and that was arranged through Lucca Holiday Rentals. Casa Valeria is about location, location and location and it is bcomplemented by comfort, comfort and comfort! We would return again in a heartbeat! Thank you Deborah and Maria for your communications and follow through with everything!!

A Week in Lucca

We rented Casa Valeria for a week in June 2011. We found the apartment to be absolutely gorgeous--just as the pictures suggest. Debora and Maria were most helpful in providing helpful information prior to and after our arrival in Lucca. The location of the apartment is perfect--close to shops, restaurants, markets, and the train station. We took the train for a day trip to Florence and had a beautiful time. We also rented a car and drove to Siena for a day. We loved seeing the other bustling areas of Tuscany, and we loved coming home to our beautiful apartment in quiet Lucca after our journeys. We spent an afternoon sunning on the terrace and several evenings up there having a glass of wine before going out to dinner. A wonderful addition to the apartment.

Casa Valeria is exceptionally beautiful! My friends and I could not have found a more perfect place to stay! It looks exactly like the photos but is much larger than we expected. The 1st and 2nd floors of the building each have two apartments but Casa Valeria takes up the entire 3rd floor by itself. So, it is very spacious! It was immaculately well-kept and extremely comfortable. The location is very convenient to everything - from shops and restaurants to the train station which is within walking distance. It is also right next to the medieval wall that completely surrounds the picturesque and interesting town of Lucca. You can simply cross the street to reach it for your walks or bike rides. The best feature of Casa Valeria is the rooftop terrace! It was my favorite spot. The panoramic views are spectacular! There is a 360 degree magnificent view of red tiled rooftops, towers, and mountains! It is truly breathtaking! I highly recommend staying in this fabulous apartment! You will never want to leave!

Casa Valeria is absolutely beautiful. We so enjoyed our stay; it was such a convenient, lovely flat, so close to everything from the markets to the sea, to shopping top notch designer shops to frantic, busy market stalls..we will hope to make a return visit before long!
