Sheltered by palm, olive and citrus trees and surrounded by glorious bougainvilleas, gardens, fountains, statuary, and terraces, the estate known as Villa Aujourd’hui is one of the most desirable homes in the Old Las Palmas enclave. Formerly the home of Hollywood mogul Jack Warner, it has been superbly restored to retain its grand European style. Truly magnificent, this estate is a rare offering indeed, a most distinguished estate steeped in Hollywood history.
The Estate occupies approximately 1.5 acres resting in the shadow of majestic Mount San Jacinto. Lush gardens surround the home and are accented with classical statuary, including a bronze fountain statue of Bacchus. Landscape lighting enhances the elegant ambience outdoors.
Originally built in 1958, the outstanding 3,682-square-foot, three bedroom, three and one-half bath main residence has been restored to highlight its classical Italian style while retaining a modern design and offering all the amenities required for the finest in contemporary living. William Haines, "decorator for the stars" outfitted the home with many gracious appointment and built-ins, all of which remain. Other design elements worthy of note include dramatic mural wallpaper hand-painted 200 years ago and imported from France, Zuber wallpaper, and solid brass doorknobs. About Jack Warner:
Jack Warner opened Warner Brothers .studios with his brothers Harry, Albert and Sam in 1923. He served as the company's longtime vice president in charge of production before becoming company president in 1956. Warner sold his interest in the company and retired in 1972. He died six years later.
Jack Warner (J.L. for short) (August 2, 1892 - September 9, 1978), born Jacob Leonard Warner in London, Ontario, Canada, was the president and driving force behind the highly successful development of Warner Brothers Studios in Hollywood, Los Angeles, California.
The youngest born in Krasnosielc, Poland of 12 children of Jewish immigrants. In 1936, Jack Warner married Ann Boyar, the former wife of actor Don Alvarado and mother of actress Joy Page. They remained together for forty-two years until his death in 1978.
For his contribution to the motion picture industry, Jack Warner has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame at 6541 Hollywood Blvd. He also has a star on Canada's Walk of Fame in Toronto, which honors outstanding Canadians from all fields.
Jack Warner died on September 9, 1978 in Los Angeles, California and is buried in Home of Peace Cemetery in East Los Angeles, California. At the time of his death, he was the last surviving Warner brother. Aged 86 by the time of his death, he was also the longest lived of all Warner brothers
