This was our first trip to Sanibel and the first time using VRBO and we were pleased not only with the area but with the property. As the photos show, you can see the Gulf from the screened lanai, sunrises from the kitchen window and a short walk to the beach. Nice chairs to take with you. The owner made good suggestions on restaurants and we found some also through our AAA book. Some nice shops on the island, even ventured to Captiva for dinner one evening, but we would always go early to avoid the crowds so we never saw a sunset, but we saw the sun rise from the kitchen, one morning it was beautiful. The location is good because it is a short distance from the causeway, so you don't have to fight a lot of traffic to get to the condo. We would even to into Ft. Myers for a movie and found a great place for Sunday brunch just before getting onto the causeway. We didn't put a lot on our agenda, just walks on the beach in the morning and evening and shopping or reading or movies during the day. A very relaxing vacation and in a nice location.Recommended for: Age 55+, pet owners, families with young children.

IDEAL FAMILY DESTINATION! The owner of 533, Michael, was great to work with and the condo was immaculate. The condo is comfortable, open, updated, and the views are great! Most appreciated was the kitchen eating area, washer/dryer, flat screen TVs, comfortable couches and luxurious king-size bed. It really felt like home for us and our kids. It was just perfect for what we needed. Loggerhead Cay is in an ideal location, straight off the causeway, in a quiet area away from the traffic of the restaurant/hotel/condo corridor that is further up the island. The property is beautifully landscaped & maintained, with a large pool, tennis courts, & ample bike racks nested around the buildings. It is a few short steps to the beach with an outdoor shower to rinse off upon your return. The kids really enjoyed the heated pool when we weren't shelling at the beach. Unit 533 was in a great location, on the 3rd floor, it has a beautiful view of the beach and the pool. The porch was a great place to relax and hang with the kids to talk about the day's adventures. Beach chairs & sand toys on the porch for our use was also appreciated. We brought our own bikes and rode them everyday. It was a real joy to ride the numerous bike paths, as the island is set up for bikes and pedestrians to have the right of way. We biked to visit local shops, to the grocery, and the lighthouse. The highlight was a 6 mile bike ride through the “Ding” Darling National Wildlife Refuge. Nature at it's best! Other activities we recommend are the Farmer's Market on Sunday with fresh seafood galore and the "Sanibel Thriller" to see dolphins up close enjoying the boat's wake. If you are in Sanibel for New Years, the Sanibel Recreation Center hosts a fantastic Family New Year's Eve Party. Great food from a variety of local restaurants, lots of activities for kids. Our kids (17, 13, & 10) made lots of friends, enjoyed dancing to a DJ, and loved the countdown with a grand balloon drop. A night to remember. A comment on food, we stopped at a Wal-Mart in Ft Myers to stock up for the week, next time we will shop at Jerry's Foods on the island; it has an amazing deli/bakery selection at fair prices. We ate out several times, our favorite was The Island Cow - great menu (coconut shrimp for me, gumbo for the hubby), reasonable prices, & a relaxed island atmosphere. We highly recommend this outstanding unit on Sanibel. For our family this was an ideal home away from home!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 2/2

Found this unit exactly as described in listing and quite roomy compared to other 2 bedroom condos we've rented. The owner responded promptly to my questions. Found none of the issues mentioned in the February review. Everything was in working order. All of the following appeared to be new or almost new: Washer & dryer (both larger than my own!) stove, refrigerator, dining and living room furniture, light, airy draperies, TVs in living room and master bedroom. In the interest of writing a helpful review for potential guests, I will say if it's important to you to that every detail of your rental unit be completely up-to-the-minute , you should look elsewhere, but be prepared to pay either pay much more or sacrifice location. It was obvious to us after reading previous reviews and comparing them with our stay that the owner has made continuous updates since acquiring this unit. The only things left to update appear to be the two bathrooms and the carpet, all of which were clean which is more important to us than brand-new. There was one stain on the carpet about the size and shape of a potted plant, again not a big deal for us. What is a big deal for us is comfort and the furniture here really exceeded our expectations. The sofa and loveseat cushions are soft and full, the kind you can just sink into, and the upholstery is washed cotton. It felt wearing a favorite shirt. I have issues with my lower back and sleeping in any bed other than my own is always a gamble. The king-size master bed in this unit is one of the most comfortable we have ever slept in. We woke well rested every morning with no back pain. Also love the Adirondack chairs on the lanai where we had breakfast every morning. A more substantial table on the lanai would be great. Coded entry is nice - no digging around in my beach bag for a room key. One suggestion for owner when ready to update carpet - consider tile instead? More pet-friendly,lower maintenance, and stays nice-looking longer. Overall, a really nice unit that is obviously getting better all the time. Would recommend to all but the most hard-to-please ...Owner response: This is Michael. My wife Diane and I are looking into flooring options. The kitchen and the bathrooms have tile floors. We cannot tile the entire unit because the association will not allow it -- since we are on the 3rd floor, we need flooring with sound insulating properties. We are looking into hardwood flooring with insulation underneath.

The location of the condo was perfect. The property was clean; however, there were so many items that required repair. Burned out light bulbs, broken locks, doors that did not close, window shades with broken mechanisms detracted from fully using the condo. Kitchen and bathroom cabinets needed attention (one door in kitchen was held together with masking tape), and there were holes in the kitchen countertop. Lack of good lighting in the master bedroom bath made dressing difficult .Recommended for: Pet owners.
Owner response: This is Michael the owner. If a renter has an issue, you can call me. We have a handyman that will arrive the same day. This renter called about a couple of items and the problems were addressed immediately. Our beautiful unit gets rented, and is therefore worked on continuously. My wife and I spend 4 weeks (and thousands of dollars) per year on maintenance and improvements. We strive for a perfect unit, and we are at your service! Extra light bulbs are on hand. The master bedroom has brand new lamps with 3-way switches on them, and there is also a dimmer switch on the wall. We have made instruction signs for this and other things, like how to turn on the TV.

The two of us and our chihuahua spent one of the most relaxing and enjoyable vacations at #12281 Loggerhead Cay the week of Thanksgiving. The condo was comfortable, roomy-with a very nice large lanai overlooking the pool area and a bit further-the Gulf. Both bedrooms were well-appointed with their own flat screens and the beds were very cozy/comfortable. I LOVED the king size bed. Code entry to the condo was easy & there is an elevator a few feet away. We rented bikes off Periwinkle and had such a ball riding around the island, exploring the paths over by the lighthouse, stopping for lunch at the Island Cow and making it all the way down to Bailey's Store(sky-hi prices, btw). The condo provided us with a much-needed get-away from our hectic/stressful life in Atlanta. Be sure to hop off the isle, head down Summerlin to Fowler, then to Edison to enjoy some of the most mouth-watering Southern food on the planet at Farmers Market Restaurant. YUM! We will be back :) We would love to return.Recommended for: Sightseeing, tourists without a car, age 55+, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with young children.

This was our 3rd trip to Sanibel and also to this Condo. WE love it here. WE cannot find a single flaw in the accomodations nor the location. The restaurants are all excellent. My husband loves the conch chowder at Doc Ford's and the entrees at the Green Flash in Captiva. WE come to Sanibel for relaxing and this means I do not cook any meals. WE have tried most of the restaurants on Sanibel and Captiva and have never had a bad meal. This Condo just feels like home. When I opened the door on this trip I just felt like I was finally home again.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, families with teenagers, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

Our family had a great time in Sanibel Island and the condo! The condo is easy to get to and close enough to walk or bike to anything. My wife and daughter played tennis every morning while my other daughter and I biked to get breakfast. The beach and pool area are close and not too crowded. The condo itself is nice, but needs updates (counters, paint) and some of the shared items such as beach chairs and towels are in rough shape. These are all things that can be easily addressed which the owner indicated they are planning to do. The owner was very responsive and helpful in making our stay as good as possible!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, families with young children.
Owner response: Hello, this is Michael the owner. I just had the the bathrooms and the guest bedroom repainted the week of April 30th through May 7th. The entire unit has now been repainted since December. My wife Diane & I buy new beach towels, beach recliners, and children's toys every time we go down. Also, we have a caretaker that replaces these items should they go missing. There are many shops close to the condo. I will reimburse any renter who feels they need new towels or beach chairs during their stay. I am available 7 days a week on my mobile phone and Blackberry and will respond to any need or concern.
