The cabin was the perfect setting for a special weekend with close family friends. The luxury of having separate sleeping and bathroom facilities was wonderful. We enjoyed falling asleep to the sound of creek and cool night breezes. The layout of the cabin provided for ease of cooking large meals, gathering in the great room for music and games, and relaxing time on the spacious deck. We especially loved the creek side table and chairs. Lots of comfy seating was available throughout the property which allowed for several different groups to gather and visit. We enjoyed barbequing, playing horseshoes, hiking, star gazing (which was awesome), swinging, sipping coffee on the glider, reading books by the creek… Everything we needed was available from kitchen utensils to linens. Perfect cabin for an awesome weekend.

We loved our stay here! The house had everything we needed. The kitchen was well stocked with dishes, pans, utensils, etc. There was ample seating inside, on the deck and down near the creek, and bedrooms were comfortable with a bathroom in or near each room. We had plenty of room for 4 couples and 2 teenagers plus room to spare. It was so relaxing to sit in the shade of the evergreen trees right next to the creek. We even went fishing and tried out the swing in the tree! I'd go there again in a minute.

We had a Great Time!!!! The Retreat is comfortable, Clean & over all very nice .... We loved the set up & Space! We took our quads & rode right from the front door to the trails, which was nice with little ones to have a home base to return too. That was a BLAST!!! We had 2 Toddlers both just over & under 2 years old....... Thank You to the owners for having the Baby Gates avaliable, The gates were a huge help w/ the stairs ( Both kids thought the stairs were amazing since we do not have stairs at home), we had not thought to bring ours. The Pool table was a hit for all ages! Over all a Fantastic visit, The cleaning lady was a great resource upon arrival & was able to answer all of our questions! The cabin is buried in the forest but is only a 25 minute drive back into payson where Walmart & Bashas are both near by! It is a steep walk down to the creek, this has both a paved path & stairs avaliable but hand holding is a must with little ones but the yellow slide by the creek was a hit & the kids enjoyed exploring, seeing the leaves & going on the swing! Our teenagers (16) loved exploring the creek, being out in nature & having the creek right there in the back a yard of the home! We will be back in the future for sure!

My family of 13 had the pleasure of staying here for Thanksgiving. It was a wonderful experience. Truly everything you need is there for you. My Grandkids (7) had a great time on the swings and playing on the slide by the creek. We made Smores by the campfire and had a snipe hunt (lol). We made many memories and hope to return in 2013. The cabin was wonderful. All 3 bedrooms were spacious, clean and comfortable. Each also had it's own bathroom which was great. We have 4 small kids (7-1 years old), so the best part for them was the property. They loved swinging on the swings and collecting acorns and apples that had fallen from the tree. We also enjoyed s'mores by the fire in the evening. One note here, I purchased some firewood from a local store (Houstan Mesa General Store) for the fire. He told me it was hickory, but I didn't know anything about it. It turns out that it is very difficult to start a fire with. We spent most of the time just trying to keep the fire aflame, but the s'mores were still yummy. We went to Tonto Natural Bridge during our stay. It's a pretty cool place to check out but a bit pricey if there are several people (pay per person, not per vehicle). We ate at Gerardo's Firewood Cafe afterwards and really enjoyed it. The portions are quite large so bring your appetite.

Thank you so much for opening your retreat to us and our friends. We truly enjoyed our stay and the comforts of your cabin. The children had a blast swinging & especially fishing. We even had a very close call with catching a fish but it got away. It was fun to see the fish hang out and tease us the entire weekend. Everything was PERFECT! We had a large group for the week at this beautiful cabin and really enjoyed it! We were able to relax by the creek, take hikes, cook and enjoy meals together, and have plenty of space inside and on the patio. I highly recommend it as a wonderful place to get away and relax, only a 2 hour drive from Phoenix.

Would recommend this home and definitely rent again. The deck is peaceful and well equipped. Especially loved the creek. Mark was very helpful and answered our questions right away. Very easy to find, the directions were right on. We felt like we were a million miles away although it was only 1 1/2 hrs from Scottsdale.

We had a great time and thoroughly enjoyed our stay! There was plenty of space for our crew of 13 and the creek area and swings were a big hit with the kids. Really appreciated the second smaller swing as well so that my youngest grandson (4) could swing as well as the bigger kids. Everything worked well no issues. The last day we had a nice thunderstorm that really got the creek moving it was really amazing. I hope we have an opportunity to return next year.

Idyllic Sanctuary!

If you're looking for the perfect place to escape city life, this is it. My sister and I brought our mom for a girls getaway, and it was fabulous. The cabin retreat is actually suitable for all ages, because there are games, a pool table, a running creek for kids, and even a slide and swing hanging from a tall pine tree. Everything is top notch, from the furnishings to the private location among the pines. We especially appreciated the Wi-Fi availability for our iPad and laptop, so that we could still email and keep in touch. It's also close to Pine, so we took advantage and had lunch at Randall House one day. Mark was so helpful, and answered my emails and phone calls right away. You will absolutely love staying here!!!!

Family Holiday Getaway

Our stay at the retreat was very pleasant. The cabin was very warm and inviting, and we quickly made ourselves at home. All the rooms were large with their own bathroom and were very clean. Everything we needed was there for us to use. We cooked some wonderful meals in the kitchen as well as on the BBQ outside on the deck. The back yard was large enough for our grandchildren to run around in, and they especially liked the slide by the creek. We had an awesome time there and hope to return there again soon for other gatherings. Special thanks to Mark for being so accommodating and helpful.

Great Family Retreat!!

We were really lucky to find this wonderful cabin available after our rental in Greer was canceled due to the Wallow Fire. This place was beautiful with a great backyard and rushing stream at the back of the property. Mark was really helpful with the arrangements and the cabin was awesome....the pictures don't really do it justice. We used the fire control roads as short cuts to get to Tonto Natural Bridge and the Rim Lakes. We played badmitten in the back yard and the girls loved the swings! We'd certainly recommend this cabin to others and look forward to staying there again. Enjoy your stay!

As soon as my family and I arrived we were completely taken back at how beautiful it was. The house was amazing and all amenities were taken care of. We LOVED spending time on the gorgeous deck, but even more down in the huge yard that had a few awesome swings, lots of places to sit, play and relax. We were totally in love with the creek that followed along the back of the property. We were able to walk right up to it and get in if we wanted. In fact, we did... we got in the water and hiked through the river a couple of times! We stayed with our parents and my brothers family. Had little ones under 5 years old that all loved it. WE WILL BE BACK for sure!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I recommend this place to ANYONE! TRUE BEAUTY!

Our student organization had a great weekend there! The open living area and porch are ideal for meeting and gathering and the yard is amazing. The location was close enough to town and far enough to get away. Will definitely go again!

Two nights at the cabin

My family and a friend’s family shared the rental cabin for two nights. We could have not been more delighted with the property, and the accommodations. The pictures on the site are good, but there is nothing like experiencing the views firsthand. Each of the bedrooms has a bathroom with a shower, the kitchen is well equipped, and the living room with the pool table add to the list of enjoyable things to do while visiting. Our children of five, four, and three years old could not stay still playing with the swings, or walking around the creek. At night we enjoyed a bon fire and roasted some marshmallows. Over all we had a great time and would visit again. The directions are accurate, and we had no issues with the rental process as a whole.

My family and with a few other families rented this house for 2 nights after Christmas. The very first moment feeling we had was wow... We really enjoyed everything there... We went up over Veteran's Day weekend looking to get away from the hussle and bussle of everyday life in Phoenix, we had 5 adult and 5 kids in our group. We took our Quads with us to enjoy the nearby trails. We took lots of food so that we would not have to go back into town for anything. (Although Payson is only about 20 minutes away). We had a blast from the time that we arrived. Nobody wanted to come home. The kids especially enjoyed the creek, slides, and the swings. They also enjoyed roasting marshmallows over the fire. The surroundings are amazing, it is the perfect environment to get away no matter what season it is, I am sure! There would be great sledding there in the winter and great fishing in the summer. You should definitely check this cabin out for yourselves.

Great Retreat

My family and another family stayed at the retreat this past week and took along several teenagers for our daughters 18th Birthday,(14 in all and plenty of room) what a great set up for that. The girls were all on the lower level of the cabin, the boys took the casita and the adults took the 2 master suites upstairs, everyone had their own private spaces to go to yet plenty of gathering spaces if you wanted to be a part of the activities. We all enjoyed walking the creek, horseback riding at nearby Kohl's ranch, and there are all sorts of trails that we took our ATV's on. Mark, the owner was more than accomadating in answering my endless questions both before and during our stay, as were several of the neighbors we met while there. Looking forward to a winter visit soon!

We loved our stay here. The rooms are all large, clean, and spacious; living areas as well as bedrooms and bathrooms. We enjoyed berry picking, hiking, and quiet times sitting under the trees listening to the water in the creek. The pictures made it look good, but it is even better! We held our company staff retreat for 4 days here and absolutely loved it! It was perfect for our large group and we had a great time there. We had our company retreat to this location. We were surprised at how big the place is and what a nice place it is. I highly recommend this location, especially if you need to accomodate a larger group. The area down by the river is very nice and the fireplace is fun. I really liked that this location has an Internet connection too. The cabin itself is very cozy and the bedrooms are very comfortable.

The Perfect Mountain Retreat

Our family, consisting of 6 adults and 2 children ages 5 and 6 spent the weekend of Friday, the 13th at this amazingly beautiful cabin and had the best time ever! The owner was very friendly, helpfull and responded very quickly to all of our questions prior to our trip. The accomodations were excellent and clean. Loved that every couple had their own bathroom! The property is spacious and beautifully maintained. The kids absolutely loved and squealed with delight while being pushed on the swings that hung on the trees. We went hiking, fishing, ATV riding during the day and played pool and poker in the evenings. At night we were all lulled to sleep by the sound of the creek nearby. We highly reccomend this cabin to anyone who wants to get away from the grind of everyday living. We will definitely plan future stays at this property!

Our family couldn't have found a better place to spend our family reunion in the pines. The cabin and area are beautiful - peaceful, refreshing, relaxing, comfortable! It allows privacy but also great when gathering as a group. If you like a wooded creekside setting with all of the amenities of home then you will love staying at this mountain retreat. I spent five days but wished it was a month as I drove back to Phoenix. Can't be beat!

Wonderful Cabin for vacation with young kids

We spent a weekend at the cabin in June 2010 with 6 adults and 4 young kids (ages 1-4) and had a fantastic time. The house was immaculate, comfortable and very well laid out so that each family had plenty of privacy. The fact that each bedroom has its own full bathroom was huge bonus. The creek was fun for stomping, though the water was running very swiftly so you have to keep a very close eye on the little ones (obviously!). There is a great flat area by the creek with multiple tree swings and room to run around and play ball, badminton, etc. The deck is a beautiful place for meals and can be blocked off with furniture to keep the kids contained. I would recommend bringing your own baby gate if you have small kids and want to keep them in the main part of the house. We will definitely be back for another visit this fall!

Our family had a wonderful time at your Mountain Retreat. There were six of us and there was plenty of room. The cabin was comfortable and inviting and the property was absolutely awesome. The retreat was wonderful. The pictures do not do the property justice. The sound of the water running by the property can not be captured in the ad either. I think one of my favorite experiences was playing badminton with the kids while listening to the water flow by. Playing pool with the family was memorable as well. Thanks for the stay. We stayed in the cabin over labor day weekend to celebrate my 30th birthday and it was amazing!! We made memories with our kids that we will never forget. Mimi and Mark were so wonderful! What a wonderful place for our annual family reunion. We had six kids and seven adults here for 4 days and had plenty of room. The kids really enjoyed the swings, the creek (acutally the East Verde River), and had plenty of room to play and roam. The owner called on our second day just to check to ensure everything was okay. A nice and sincere touch. We will definitely return. The grandkids have already put in their request and are still talking about it.

What a wonderful vacation!!! Your house and yard were even more than we expected. It was absolutely perfect. Mimi and Mark gave us a list of great places to go visit, but we had too much fun in your house, your yard and the surrounding area to venture off. We loved that we could ride the ATV's right from your house, and there were wonderful trails all around your house. One of the biggest highlights for our kids was going to the swimming hole. We had so much fun there! Your yard was PERFECT! The creek going through your yard was beautiful. We had so much fun playing in the water, and there were even steps leading down to it. Everyone had so much fun riding on the tree swing. We had campfires in your fire pit almost every night and roasted hotdogs and smores and looked up at the beautiful stars. The seating all over your yard was great. It was nice to just sit down there and read a book while listening to the water in the creek. Your house was just as beautiful. We played a lot of games of pool and had fun watching movies and playing cards. My favorite thing was sitting out on the deck in the morning and enjoying a cup of coffee or eating breakfast out there. This was such an enjoyable get-away, we can't wait to come back!!! It's very generous of you to make such a wonderful place available to rent, to share it with other people. Thanks for everything.

WOW!! This was a WONDERFUL experience! We had a very large group of family all meet at your cabin. We were impressed with how clean and spacious it was. The "backyard" area was perfect for our games. We had ladderball and washers tournaments going on at the same time and still had room for the little ones to play. Being able to hear the creek from the patio was so peaceful and relaxing. Mark, you also impressed us with your wonderful customer service. I really appreciated you letting us enjoy your cabin. We are looking forward to making this an annual event. All I have to say is...WOW!!! my family and I have rented this cabin and had the most peaceful time of our lives. This cabin is very cozy, clean and has a very warm feeling when we got there. I recently stayed at the retreat with a group of mothers we are all co workers and brought our children with us – there were a tone of kids all ages youngest being 2 and eldest 13 and we had a so much fun. The cabin its self is perfect plenty of room even for the largest of groups and the grounds just added to the perfection. We managed to cook and feed large group of people with no hassle. We took the children creek stomping at nearby creeks they loved it so much fun the water was clear and cool just what was ordered. We played games in the yard and grilled our dinner and made memories and friends that will last a life time.We were defiantly not disappointed in fact talk of a return to “OUR” mountain retreat has began!

Oh my! was it perfect!!! It is obvious you want people to make life long memories at your cabin/retreat. We could see the tremendous thoughtfulness in everything. My kids were all surprised to see the parts and pieces to outside games, etc. Everyone loved the sleeping arrangements, especially the boys :-) (this room was off to itself with a tv, sound system, couch and an adjacent weight room) Thank you!!! The first night we started a fire in the fire ring... roasted marshmallows, told stories and looked at the stars, it was great! In the morning, I made a big breakfast, Belgian waffles, bacon, sausage and eggs as everyone watched "What about Bob". We all laughed and relaxed together. This was special because we all are involved with various activities coming and going...that I can't remember the last time we all enjoyed a breakfast like that. We were very comfortable, it felt like home. The layout of the dining area and couches was perfect and cozy! After breakfast we went down to the creek, fished and explored. My youngest daughter Ana loved looking at all the quarts rocks and swinging. She especially loved creek walking. We all really wanted to catch some fish, so we decided to drive to Woods Canyon Lake. Oh my was that beautiful! After a couple of hours, we caught a few fish and returned to the cabin. Ana cleaned her first fish and cooked the fish over the fire pit. She loved it!! This night was magical, we talked about Austin leaving for the Air Force and our personal goals for the next ten years. We had soo much fun at Woods Canyon Lake, we decided to return for a few hours before returning home. As we arrived, they were stocking the lake! We caught our family limit!!! I am cooking fish for dinner tonight :-) Again thank you for making our last "whole" family vacation special!!! May the Lord richly bless you and your family!! Grace

My family, my parents and my sister's family spend 4 days in May 2010 and OMG! we just felt in love with this property. We enjoyed numerous activities: fishing, ATV rides, games by the creek and unbelievable evenings by the fire. The owers were fantastic to communicate with us and accomodate our stay. If you are looking for great time and great place, please, consider visiting Mountain Retreat Cabin and you will not regret it. Marina, May 2010

We just stayed at the cabin and it was great - everything we were hoping for. Two families, 4 adults and 4 kids, and we had plenty of room. The backyard is nice and big, with plenty of seating to enjoy the scenery.

I stayed here for a weekend retreat with my friends and son. We loved the spacious and conviences of the cabin. It felt like a Hotel in the Woods. The creek is a perfect distance to explore at a whim and the trails to hike are just a mile away. This home will provide a peaceful get away that any family or small group needs! Thanks for making our time there special!

My two brothers and our spouses spent a very enjoyable 4 days at this wonderful mountain cabin. It was a very enjoyable 4 days. The facilities were clean and comfortable and we enjoyed the peace and quiet. I will recommend it to anyone interested in spending a few days in the Rim Country of Arizona.

We have used this beautiful mountain retreat now for our ministry retreats a few times. And everytime, the group has an amazing experience. We have the quiet we need, comfortable places to talk or read, enough space for the group to work or eat, and definately the beauty that reminds us that we serve a BIG God. Our family really enjoyed the beautiful creek and nearby hiking trails. The house is comfortable and clean--we felt right at home. The balcony is wonderful for relaxing and feeling like you are in a "treehouse."

This retreat has been such a great getaway for my wife and I and children great family time. We come here often to get away from the heat and relax.The retreat has all you need .There are movies , all the kithen ware and the exterior patio has got to be the best place to sit. Enjoy the cool air and relaxing chairs, the sound of the creek that runs year around, as well a an exterior BBQ for all your cooking needs. The surrounding forest has hiking, fishing, swimming holes and lots of ATV trails, one of our favorites. You need to get away , come up here , you will want to come back!!!!!!!!

Everything was awesome. Not a single negative to report. We had a wonderful time. We had plenty of room for the 7 kids and 3 adults in our group and did not want to come home. I will defiantly recommend your rental to anyone looking to get away. You are very blessed to have such a place to enjoy. Thanks very much for sharing Rio Vista with my family. The Creek stomping was a favorite with all. Very clear cold water on a summer day, can't beat it.
