Casa Cuesta hugs the edge of Los Balcones, an exclusive, hillside development boasting of magnificent views of San Miguel and its often-exuberant sunsets. The house, which is situated across the street from a charming neighborhood chapel, consists of three levels, the lowest of which includes a secure garage and storage areas. There is also off-street parking.
The principal level is up a short flight of stairs from the street and embraces a tree-shaded, stone-paved patio complete with fountain and bougainvillea - nearly always in bloom. The expansive, open kitchen (well-equipped for amateur cooks), dining, and living areas are also on this level and share views of the city through a dome-covered patio. The main level also includes a bedroom with a queen-size bed, ceiling fan, fireplace, private patio, and walk-in closet as well as a bathroom with a generous shower.
The upper level, paved, as are all spaces, with locally quarried stone, also features the bovedas, or brick-vaulted ceilings, common to the entire house. Here you will find a large bedroom with a queen-size bed, ceiling fan, seating area, ample private terrace, and walk-in closet. A separate studio with writing desk and its own terrace can sleep two in a day bed with pull-out trundle if needed. A second bath, featuring tiles from nearby Dolores Hidalgo, and a laundry area for the maid who comes three times a week, complete the facilities on this level - from which truly dramatic views of the city are to be had.
Special attention has been paid to lighting and to the display of folk and other art at Casa Cuesta. Located less than a ten-minute walk from the jardin, or main plaza, the house is both a conscious part of the culture and a retreat from the activity of the city center. Wireless internet is available throughout the house.
"We had a great time--LOVED the house--no problems," (Partick, San Lorenzo, CA.) "Your comfortable and interesting house...is not like any place we have ever stayed before, mainly because of its location and interesting design...the place more than met our expectations." (Judge A. Sonner, Maryland) "We completely loved the month in San Miguel and your house...which certainly works for more than two people. Dick and I are going to come back sometime..." (D&J Webster, Colorado) "John and I thoroughly enjoyed our very relaxing stay in San Miguel at your casa. Both exceeded our expectations. Thank you for sharing your beautiful house. Laura [the maid] added to the enjoyment of our stay--she did an excellent job."(Susan & John Rouse, Birmingham, AL.) |
