Dam Cove Lodge is located on a gentle hillside, at the edge of beautiful woods, close to a tidal cove. The house and its deck overlook a pond and rolling fields rimmed with evergreens. The "great room" with its large windows includes a large living room with a huge fireplace, knotty pine paneling and a large dining area. A modern electric kitchen is open to the living room. Two bedrooms and the bathrooms are on this main floor.
On the upper floor is a big family room with a ping-pong table and a large double bedroom as well as a dormitory area for two to three beds. Heat is available, but is not usually needed. The house works well for two families, or three generations of one family, although two people have often enjoyed its space. There is an extensive collection of brochures for restaurants, sight-seeing and boat trips.
We have 28 acres of fields, a fresh water, spring-fed pond, and open woods along a tidal cove. Swimming is fine in the pond and the cove is wonderful for swimming two hours either side of high tide. Canoeing and kayaking are superb among the bays and islands for six hours from mid-tide to mid-tide. Bring your own boats or rent nearby.
Popham Beach and Reid State Park are magnificent sand beaches within easy driving distance. Many boat trips and excursions are available. Bath and Brunswick both have interesting shops, good antique stores and excellent restaurants. Many seafood restaurants are located in beautiful waterfront sites. A supermarket, farm stand, seafood market, and laundromat are nearby.
Finally, Dam Cove Lodge is a fine place to see birds, possibly deer, raccoons and porcupines. Because there are no street-lights, the stars are especially clear and bright. There is privacy, but there are neighbors just barely in sight. |
