Barrel Tasting is not a food or themed event. It's all about the WINE...many wineries offer "futures" on their barrel samples. This is a chance to purchase wine now, often at a discount, then come back to the winery when the wine is bottled, typically in 12-18 months.
The Russian River Retreat is a 1900 square foot, contemporary, executive two-story, three master bedroom home.
A five minute walk from downtown, our Russian River Retreat is a relaxing, full amenity, getaway putting you in close proximity to everything the Russian River Area of Northern California has to offer.
There are over fifty wineries located within minutes of the house.
Spend a relaxing day swimming or boating on the Russian River. Kayak and canoe rentals are available locally. The Russian River is also home to some of the finest Steelhead fishing in the world. Walk, hike or horse back ride the magical groves of ancient redwoods at the beautifully maintained Armstrong Woods National Park.
Visit some of Northern California's most picturesque coastal towns, Bodega Bay (setting for Alfred Hitchcock's famous movie "The Birds"), tour Point Reyes National Seashore, where some of California's finest organic cheeses are produced, or have dinner overlooking the Pacific Ocean at Jenner.
A 5 minute drive from the house is the beautiful Northwood Golf Course - a par 36, 9 hole, Alister MacKenzie/Robert Hunter designed public golf course, situated on 70 wooded acres.
Only 90 minutes from San Francisco, two hours from Sacramento.
The large, fully equipped kitchen has a gas stove, microwave, toaster oven, coffee maker, refrigerator, and dinner ware service for twelve people. There is an abundant supply of pots, pans, cooking and baking utensils. The kitchen, family room and dining area are combined in one large great room with a gas fireplace and vaulted ceilings. The living room has a fantastic selection of books and games for all ages and tastes. There is also a half bath downstairs.
There are three bedrooms. Each has its own private full bathroom with shower over the tub. Two of the bedrooms have queen beds and the master bedroom has a king bed and a reading/sitting area with desk. Most of the rooms share a splendid view of the Korbel vineyard framed by a hilly redwood forest.
The grounds are beautifully landscaped with an ancient redwood fairy circle, a wonderful hot tub in a charming gazebo, outdoor furniture and a barbeque. The house also has a two car garage.

Why the Owner Chose Guerneville
There is the ever beautiful view out our windows of the Korbel chardonnay vineyards that extend to the tree covered hills beyond. Many of our guests make the house theirs every year and some several times a year. We love sharing our wonderful Russian River Retreat.
The Unique Benefits at this House
The Johnson Beach area is a five minute walk from our house. A 24 hour Safeway is closer than that. We can always schedule a relaxing massage at the Spa next door--our neighbor is the West Sonoma Inn and Spa. Armstrong woods is only about 3 miles and the coast is a 20 min drive. we can rent and ride horses in Armstrong Woods or take the boat and relax on the river.

We always loved the area around the Russian River. The wine country is beautiful and the people are nice and welcoming. We enjoy the relaxed atmosphere and the laid back mentality compared to San Francisco. Our children enjoy the outdoors as much as we do.

House was nice with great view of vineyards from back yard. Refrigerator and kitchen cabinets were full of old food (gross!). The bathroom cabinets also contained used articles. Our major problem occurred after our stay. We had paid a security deposit by check. The check was not to have been cashed. However it was cashed prior to our stay. After our stay we made repeated attempts to contact the owner about the return of our deposit. They would not return e-mails or phone calls. Many weeks later we don't have our money. DON'T STAY HERE.

Great weekend retreat or vacation home! The house is clean and inviting, kitchen has all the amenities a cook would want, the hot tub looks out over hills and vineyards, it is walking distance from the town and the river...it's a great little get-away. The wineries throughout the Russian River and Dry Creek Valleys are near-by and accessible. I highly recommend it.
