Plan a visit for next year - Spring, Summer or Fall.! [ Please note: the winter season is now booked - from mid-December to mid-April.]

Enjoy your vacation in the small, friendly Vermont village of Jamaica, located in the West River Valley. (Rates one star in the Michelin Guide.) This is a perfect area for any season - so much to enjoy, especially summer sports, Fall foliage, and skiing in winter.

This is a traditional white frame house (built about 200 years ago), on a side street off the Main Street. The big red barn is where we store the firewood, park two cars, and it is connected to the house.

The house has been our family vacation home for over thirty years, and is rented out weekly in summer and fall, and each year for the ski season. [There are no short-term winter rentals.] Thus the house is well set-up for visitors.

One of the features is the way in which the living room and the country kitchen provide one big open space. They are distinct separate areas, but are open to one another. Thus the person cooking is also a part of the group sitting in the living room around the fire. (The total distance from the end of the kitchen to the end of the living room is 36'.)

The fire is a wood-burning stove in the living room. However, the house has a good oil-fired central heating system.

House has been lovingly maintained, is very well equipped, and retains its character. (The furnishings reflect the English background and extensive travels of the owners with pottery, paintings, and wall hangings from around the globe, but especially from Britain.)

The Village of Jamaica has a range of small shops and restaurants: Coffee Shop, Gift Shops, Furniture Shops, Art Gallery, Swiss Restaurant, Village Inn, - and the gathering place for everyone is the Jamaica General Store which sells just about everything including Vermont cheese (and they will also hold your newspapers for you -- Wall St. Journal, New York Times, Boston Globe, Brattleboro Reformer.)

The location of the house is ideal for children - they can explore the village without crossing a road. For example, our grandchldren enjoy the short walk up to the general store to collect the newspapers in time for breakfast. For older ones, they can walk (just down the road) into the State Park, go down to the swimming hole in the brook, visit the shops, etc.

Come - enjoy the refreshing air of Vermont!

Owner's Map of Jamaica

Over 30 years ago, this was intended as the 'retreat' from the academic life in Boston. Over the years it has been our family holiday house, the children have grown up, and now the grandchildren consider it their vacation home. There is something for every generation - badminton in the garden, sports in the neighborhood (such as hiking, swimming, canoeing, riding, tennis), fresh fruits and vegetables, summer theatre, and flea markets. And the pace of life is different - we all agree, it's the perfect place to unwind.

Lovely spot!

We have had the pleasure of staying in Jamaica at this wonderful village home two times and fully intend to go back for more visits. The house is perfectly situated off the main village road and just five minutes walk to Jamaica State Park. We thoroughly enjoyed long bike rides throughout the area -- especially riding through Jamaica State Park, over the dam, through the woods and ending at Windham Park in South Londonderry. It is a blast to explore all the villages, great hikes and swimming holes, tennis courts and general stores in the area. The house is very peaceful, comfortable and a perfect mix of old and new. It has charm and character, and very quickly feels like home away from home.

What a lovely time we had in Jamaica! It's a charming village with friendly people. And it's close to lots of interesting Vermont towns and countryside, while being a quiet place to relax. The house is comfortable and cozy; lots of places to sit reading a book, or enjoying views of green countryside. Enough bedrooms and bathrooms to accommodate a family. State park is just a short walk. A lovely relaxing place to spend a vacation.

It was an extremely hot week, but a very enjoyable stay. Our family enjoyed walking and fishing around Jamaica State Park, and the town is lovely and quaint. Shopping in Manchester and Bennington were great day trips, along with some good eateries there. Family dinner up at the Ball Mountain Lake was beautiful with a view of the mountains that Vemront is known for. Quechee Gorge and Woodstock were also beautiful. We especially enjoyed shopping at local gift shops and stores that provided items from local artists. Thank you for sharing your home with us.

You have a great place here! We went hiking in the Jamaica State Park, spent time at Townshend Dam and beach - very lovely. Drove to Burlington; visited the Jamaica shops and bought syrup, door knocker, and garden signs; visited Manchester and at at local pub - good! Found the showers excellent, and the dining room is great! Thank you so much. See you next year.

Thanks so much for sharing your cozy "homey" Vermont house with us. The house had everything we needed and made us feel right at home. My two tirls (aged 6 and 9) loved picking a different bedroom throughout the week (with their own sink in each). We enjoyed Pikes Falls twice, Townshend Lake, Canoeing on Roaring Brook in Sunderland, horseback riding in Putney, hiking, and swimming at the State Park, Jamaica. Food at Asta's was great. It'll be hard to leave. We loved our stay in Vermont. Would LOVE to return next year.

Thank you for a beautiful stay in Jamaica. We've visited Vermont before but in the winter - this summer in a small village is completely different. Emerald Lake was beautful and we enjoyed the paddleboats. We picked blueberries and raspberries north of Manchester. We drove from Arlington to Jamaica and discovered the beautiful and peaceful Grout Pond. We also saw a bald eagle fishing at Townshend Dam on two separate days - fabulous! Shopped at the farmers' market in Brattleboro and bought lavender soap. We had a great time - thank you so much.

We all had a wonderful time re-visiting Jamaica. My husband and I have come to the Park for years. It was nice to share it with our children (3 and 41/2 years old). The older one loved the walk to the Jamaica store for a treat. The 3 year old loved the acoustics in the dining room - she is quite a singer.
