We loved the location on the little island. We were steps from the bay and every morning we walked around both islands. Easy walking distance to Marine Avenue and the ferry. Our grandchildren visited us and loved riding around the island on their scooters and enjoyed the freedom of a safe environment. The property is well maintained and equipped. It looks just like the photos. We hosted a dinner party and found all we needed for entertaining...even cook books! This is a good location for traveling in Southern California. Close to LA, Laguna Beach, Lego Land, San Diego, San Capistrano and Pasadena to name just a few. Beautiful beaches minutes away. We would love to return to this lovely property.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, age 55+, families with young children, tourists without a car.

We stayed in this adorable, Balboa duplex for week in August, 2010. We were with our teenage daughter and 2 of her friends. There was plenty of space in this 3bd/2.5ba apartment. The decor was beachy, clean & very comfortable. We had a nice little deck with a bay view as well. The owner was very helpful before, during and after our stay. We brought our bikes (though you can rent some on the island as well) which came in very handy as we traveled by bike to the Balboa Ferry, Balboa peninsula, the Fun Zone and "The Wedge" on a daily basis. You can walk to the ferry, but biking is much quicker. We would recommend this property to friends/relatives who want to experience the Balboa lifestyle. It is VERY special on "Little Balboa" and we would love to return some day. Our daughter is already talking about next summer!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, girls getaway, tourists without a car.

We spent a year in Balboa Island in this apartment. The apartment is delightful, clean, fresh and spacious, well equipped and close to the bay and beaches. It was a very quiet part of the island, yet we were able to walk to restaurants, Post office and stores. Hope to stay there again.Owner response: Esther and William were a great couple to have for the winter, and they loved every minute, asked for the following winter but it was already rented for the next winter season. You two are welcome back anytime!! Valerie

Owner info
Year Purchased: 2003
About the owner: I purchased the building in 2003 to live on Balboa Island. I have rented both units during some period, and have lived in the upper unit also. I love the open, light feeling of the upstairs and because I am on a corner, so it is bright and airy, and private unlike many of the homes on Balboa Island. I travel a great deal, and love coming back to 'paradise on the island'. It is a fun place to live, and because it is on the little island, it is quieter and more enjoyable to me then living on the big island. Come and experience life on Balboa!
Why the Owner Chose Balboa Island:
I remodeled my happy home on Balboa last year, bringing in new furniture, refinished the floors, added new carpet this last fall and have enjoyed keeping it up to date with wireless internet and a big screen TV. The neighborhood is wonderful, and the people are friendly on the little island, and everyone is kind enough to offer help when needed. It is a great neighborhood atmosphere, and being only a block from the boardwalk, a good morning or evening walk is something I always look forward to, and always enjoy.
I rent by the week during the summer and for the full winter from Sept to May, and it seems to work really well. I have been very lucky to have wonderful guests who love coming back every year, so that makes it all worth while!
The Unique Benefits at this Condo:
The privacy of living on little island, and the location, which is a corner location, is open, airy and bright. I do not enjoy living in a dark place, and so I have selected to live in a home that meets all my needs, and makes me enjoy coming home. I have been renting now for 5 years, off and on, sometimes living in it myself during the winter, and sometimes renting it. The neighbors downstairs have become great friends, so they help when something is needed, and that makes it easier for me to be away, and enjoy my time traveling. I travel mostly for business, so having wonderful neighbors makes it so delightful to have a place on little Balboa island.
