Come to the historic wine village of Hoerstein where some of Germany’s finest wines have been produced for centuries. Hoerstein, population 4,000, is part of the six village Alzenau Municipality located in the northernmost part of Bavaria (see Alzenau website) and is within the Aschaffenburg Kreis (county). Frankfurt is just an easy drive or train ride away.
Hoerstein and environs-
Hoerstein's vineyards date back 1000 years Set against the picturesque hills of the Spessart forest, Hoerstein and neighboring villages have over 10 small wineries offering tours, tastings, meals at winestubes, and wine festivals.
Traditional guesthouses and beer gardens offer hearty food and a warm atmosphere. For a special occasion, try one of several outstanding first class restaurants in the area. If you prefer to cook at home, visit local farms or weekly markets for seasonal specialties like white and green asparagus, strawberries picked fresh daily, or organic meats and cheese.
Hoerstein provides an excellent base for business, sight seeing or recreation
--Access Alzenau's nearby business district by bicycle or car or Frankfurt via an easy commute.
--Enjoy extensive sightseeing, culture and shopping in Frankfurt, Aschaffenburg, and other historic cities.

Accessibility-
Our wine country apartment is easily accessible by car or public transport to and from Frankfurt, and the Frankfurt Airport. The closest train stations are at Dettingen, Kahl, and Alzenau. From Alzenau there is a regional rail link (Kahlgrundbahn) to Hanau. Both Hanau and Kahl offer S-Bahn links to the airport or central Frankfurt and regional or intercity trains connecting to anywhere in Germany. The closest Autobahns are the A45 (5 minutes) or the A3 (15 minutes), and the apartment is a 25 min drive from the airport and 45 minute drive to central Frankfurt in off-peak hours.
The Apartment-
The apartment (80 m2) is in a four-unit building in the historic part of Hoerstein and the garden (440 m2) backs onto the old village wall. The apartment is newly renovated with an attractive open plan living/dining room and appealing contemporary furnishings. The well-equipped kitchen opens to the dining room and includes a full complement of equipment so you can easily cook at home or entertain.
The master bed room has french doors opening out to the garden and offers a wonderful relaxing view from bed. The smaller room has two single beds (trundle bed slides under single bed), and is ideal for a single person or children. The living room opens out to a private patio and offers a comfortable couch, which can be used as a double bed for guests as needed.
The apartment offers free-long distance calls within Germany, WIFI internet access and a printer. The desk area is ideal for computer work-- bring your laptop! The spacious private laundry room is located downstairs and includes a new washer & dryer, iron & ironing board and space for hanging.

We lived and worked overseas, but found ourselves coming to this region over and over again to see friends, shop, enjoy the urban amenities of Frankfurt and Aschaffenburg, walk/bike in the Spessart and visit the wineries. Wherever we are living and working in the world, Alzenau-Hoerstein will always be a home base for us. We hope you will enjoy our place and feel at home also.
Why the Owner Chose Frankfurt am Main
We love the accessibility to the Frankfurt Airport and Frankfurt itself. But there are so many lovely cities in this region it is hard to decide where to spend a free afternoon. We often go to Aschaffenburg to visit friends, get a coffee and do some shopping. The Christmas Markets in the region are wonderful and so are the wine and beer fests in the spring summer and fall. It is great to be based in a quiet villag but with such great accessibility to urban pleasures like the theater and museums.
The Unique Benefits of this Apartment in 4-Unit Building
We love staying in Hoerstein and wish we could spend more time there. Waking up with a view of the garden and the sound of the birds always brings me such peace of mind. Walking around the corner to the bakery for fresh croisants, pastires and bread is one of my favorite ways to start the day. I could walk the trails in the Spessart forest for hours, and I love walking to one of the local wineries for lunch and local wines.
