Nestled in a glorious valley, this idyllic stone farmhouse with large pool is set in several acres of its own grounds and sleeps two to six people. The property, undisturbed by immediate neighbours, is surrounded by open countryside and enjoys stunning panoramic vistas rolling away to the Luberon mountains.
Enjoy the delights of the local villages with their colourful markets and eat at a variety of excellent restaurants in the immediate area. You can choose to relax in this exceptional location or take in the renowned sights and ambience of Provence with easy day trips to Avignon, Aix-en-Provence, Marseille, the Camargue etc.
Montjalade is situated in a valley of great natural beauty. The old stone farmhouse has been restored with great love and attention to detail. You will enjoy glorious views from the three spacious south-facing bedrooms, each with its own ensuite bathroom. On the ground floor all rooms are south-facing, comprising kitchen, dining room, a study and sitting room, each with direct access to a vast shaded terrace and lawn area. A variety of tables, chairs and comfortable garden furniture makes this an ideal area to eat, read, relax and sunbathe etc. and a perfect spot for a cocktail whilst watching the sun set on the Grand Luberon.
The kitchen is fully equipped to a very high standard and your cooking pleasure is enhanced by a little herb garden just outside the door. Adjacent, there is a laundry room, separate cloakroom and WC. The dining room features an original provençal ceiling and exposed stone walls and leads onto the spacious terrace. There is also a large sofa, comfortable seating, and a refectory table for indoor meals. A stone archway leads through to a study with a welcoming sofa and a large fireplace. This also leads out to the huge terrace and garden. A sitting room with another provençal fireplace and comfortable armchairs completes the ground floor accommodation. Here you can watch French and English satellite television or take advantage of an extensive video library. There is also a DVD player, a music center and CD player and a large variety of English-language books and indoor games, etc. There is a Wi Fi connection for a computer.
A short distance from the house, discreetly shielded by shrubbery, is a magnificent 15 x 7 metre swimming pool with automatic cover in a glorious setting. Here you will find a calm haven to swim, relax and contemplate a stunning vista to the south and west, which includes the mountain range of the Grand Luberon. There are sunloungers and a solar shower as well as a pergola and windbreak to provide any necessary shade and shelter. In a quiet corner a boules court nestles amongst the trees where you can enjoy wonderful views of the perched villages of Reillanne and Montjustin.
The charming medieval villages of Reillanne, Céreste, Apt, Forcalquier and Manosque provide local shopping, delightful markets and delicious restaurants. Montjalade provides an ideal base for cycling, hiking, walking, horse-riding, rock-climbing or exploring the glorious Luberon Regional Park with its heady mixture of vines, lavender and cherry trees, punctuated by spectacular perched villages and dramatic limestone gorges. The vivid ochre cliffs of Roussillon and the tranquil Cistercian abbey of Sénanque are close by, as are the vineyards of Chateauneuf-du-Pape and Gigondas and the huge antique market in Isle-sur-la-Sorgue. Avignon, Aix-en-Provence, the spectacular gorges du Verdon, Mont Ventoux and the Roman towns of Arles, Nîmes, Orange and Vaison-la-Romaine as well as the Pont-du-Gard are all within an hour or two’s drive, while Marseille, the Camargue and the Mediterranean coast are within easy reach. A journey to Nice on the old-fashioned train from Digne takes in some spectacular scenery.
Quality bed linen, towels, pool towels, tablecloths, etc. and a final clean are included in the rental cost.
For your comfort in colder weather Montjalade has gas central heating; radiators in the bedrooms, heated towel rails in the bathrooms and underfloor heating on the ground floor. There are also two large provencal fireplaces.
