This is a lovely place. We LOVED the cove and were steps away from the incredibly beautiful Rum Point beach. The snorkeling was exceptional though the current is very, very strong. The lanai is great for an afternoon of relaxation and everything we needed was there. Thank you Tim for the great vacation.Recommended for: Age 55+, people with disabilities, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway.

We stayed here with our two young children and were pleased with the house, as well as the proximity to Rum Point, where the kids loved to play. We also got to check out the bioluminesence on the lagoon a few nights in the kayaks and that was a new and memorable experience for all of us! Thanks for a wonderful vacation!Recommended for: Families with young children.

This was our 2nd time at Cayman and we love this side of the Island. The house worked very well with three younger children (<11 yrs) and two adults. To have use of the kayaks and paddle boat was great. The lagoon is located right behind (100 yards) the house and can be seen from the screened lanai. Walking to the beach takes only a couple of minutes. The beach is beautifully located with various trees providing shade if you want. You can rent all kinds of fun stuff with Red Sail company and our kids had a blast every day at the beach. Getting around the island is very easy from Rum Point: you could take the local bus, or use a rental car. Thanks for sharing your house with us and we certainly hope to come back next year again.Recommended for: Age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.

Thank you SO MUCH for what I have described to my friends and customers as a perfect vacation! From beginning to end, everything so exceeded the norm that I can't find enough superlatives to do you guys justice! The villa is extremely comfortable with space for both gathering and solitude. And the "toys" are great! All four kayaks and the paddle boat are high quality, the snorkeling gear is excellent and plentiful, and the indoor and outdoor games were thoughtfully chosen. We loved the Rum Point area! There was plenty to do and we were close to amenities, but we felt like guests rather than tourists. Robert at Cayman Kai Vacations was professional and very helpful, and we especially appreciated your checking in with us during our stay to make sure everything was just right. "Exceeds expectations" just sums up what a guest at Kai Kotch will experience! A few recommendations for your stay: My daughter did her dives at Ocean Frontiers and found them remarkable. It was an easy 30 minute (or less) drive and they were on schedule to the minute all 3 days. We tried the newly reopened Rum Point Restaurant and it was great! There is what I think might be a new Fosters mini-store, liquor store and bakery across from Morritts which gave us one stop shopping in a very easy and scenic 20 minute drive. The Bodden Town Art Shop was a super place to shop for mementos and we were pleased that everything was made on the island. And okay, it was already on the list but Roland's Garden was the best and most unique place we have ever eaten, and my daughter and her boyfriend are devoted DC foodies so that's saying a lot!Did you find this review helpful? Loved your house! The set up worked well for us and looks great. Location is wonderful very quiet and private, but a short walk across to beaches, water sports, and food. The cove at night is something I'll never forget. The bioluminescence is incredible and I'm thrilled we got to see it. The choice of boats at the house is great. I think we used all of them. Thank you for all the information you provided from our first contacts through our stay. If we return to Grand Cayman would love to use the house again. Thanks!Did you find this review helpful? Had a very relaxing time. Accomodations were splendid, as were the temperature, and amenities. Georgetown, and 7 mile were a good distanc away, as were the huge crowds. (THANK-YOU). Beach is a short 2 min walk, and the clean conditions are 2nd to none. I'll be back soon.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

Kai Kotch is beautiful with its island decor and comfortable furnishings. Everything was clean and we appreciated the use of the kayaks, grill, and swimming pool. It was a perfect vacation, in large part due to the peace and beauty of the condo and its surroundings. The management staff were very helpful. Thank you for the ability to make free phone calls to the U.S. We'd love to come back next year.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

About the owner: Click Satellite to see the map below Tim grew up in Grand Cayman. His Mom is a Caymanian whose ancestral family have been in the island since its earliest settlement. Tonya was born in Texas and also lived in Illinois, North Carolina, and back in Texas before marrying the island boy and moving to the islands. They and their two youngest sons now live in Governor's Harbour, in the West Bay district of Grand Cayman. In September 2008 Tim took early retirement after 35 years with Cable & Wireless (a full-service telecommunication company). For his last 10 years with the company Tim was its Chief Executive for the Cayman Islands. Tim & Tonya have a business venture 'Cayman Critters' with its main outlet located at the historic 18th century step-well site, in the Bayshore Mall duty-free shopping complex on the waterfront in George Town. The main product is 'the collectable Critter experience' in which customers participate in creating plush toy animals. They also offer other plush toys and hand puppets, children's books, local music CDs, island artwork, Christmas ornaments and other souvenirs and gifts. On Sundays Tonya teaches the 5-year-olds at First Baptist Church, where Tim & Tonya are active members. Tim is now a Consultant for Cayman Safari Adventures [caymansafari . com], a new local land tour operator. They offer very fun and interesting half-day tours of the districts east of George Town where authentic island traditions and culture, and much of Cayman's history, are still evident. Guests ride in an open-air canvas-topped genuine Land Rover vehicle, on a multi-sensory adventure to special places and people of the island. These tours go to special places, some of which don’t accommodate larger tour buses. Tim & Tonya keep a powerboat ready on a canal near their home, so when they get the opportunity they can cross the North Sound to 'kotch' for a few more wonderful days at their favourite island retreat.
Why the Owner Chose Rum Point:
Over the Easter holidays of several years, Tim & Tonya and their youngsters went camping at the public beach near the Kaibo, in the Rum Point area, in keeping with a popular local 'tradition.' They brought their powerboat so that they could go into the North Sound to do some fishing, snorkeling or other water sports. During some other holiday periods they would get together with relatives and rent a condo in the Rum Point / Cayman Kai area. On those occasions they found it felt like they were on a different island - enjoying a charming, relaxing Caribbean vacation experience far away from the cares of everyday life on the busy west side of Grand Cayman. Tonya spotted a real estate ad for a unit in the Island Houses right across the street from Rum Point Club, they went and took a look ... and discovered their new island retreat they named Kai Kotch!
The Unique Benefits at this Townhome:
Most of all Tim & Tonya enjoy the tranquility of the Sand Pointe Cove area and the secluded beach in front of the Island Houses complex, with the opportunity to just relax and enjoy the 'inside-outside' open feeling of Kai Kotch. In the mornings when they are there, they often go for a paddle in one of the 2-person kayaks, or for a bike ride to the other 'cays' of the Cayman Kai community. Sometimes they go for a ride on the paddle boat (when the kids let them have a turn!) and sometimes on dark nights they take a kayak ride to see once again the bioluminescence in the cove. The Island Houses complex has a dock that makes boat use convenient, so Tim brings the boat across the North Sound so they can go snorkeling in the day or bottom fishing in the evening. The boys enjoy catching conch during the open season, and Tonya cooks up some great batches of conch fritters. Friends and family drop in to visit and catch some of the peaceful spirit of the place, the kids bring friends for 'sleepovers,' and in the winter season other Island House owners spend several weeks or months there too, so it makes for a great time of catching up with our 'winter neighbors.'
