Why the Owner Chose New Bern

We love River Bend and the River Bend Golf & Country Club has been voted for the last five years the #1 Golf Course in the county. The location is very quiet, loaded with wildlife and very safe. River Bend residents are probably over 50% retirees. In the three years we've owned "Rosie's Retreat" we've had clients stay and then buy or move into the area. Both winters we have had clients come here to get out of the cold and snow and our worst day, weather wise, we are told equals their best day back home.

The Unique Benefits at this Cottage

"Rosie's Retreat" has everything most people have in their own homes. Screened in porch with gas grill, wood deck and benches for outdoor seating, bicycles, canoe availability, great walking/riding area throughout River Bend, fireplace, kitchen with all the gadgets needed, washer and dryer. When we first opened "Rosie's Retreat" we stocked the home with all bath, kitchen & laundry needs, including condiments in the fridge so clients don't have to pack and bring those items. All we asked is if you use it up replace it for the next family that arrives (Our form of pay it forward). Oh, one last thing about staying here is all utilities and yard maintenance is included. It is the clients responsibility to get plenty of rest and relaxation and that's an order!

Owner's Map of New Bern

Kathy and I met at Emerald Isle, NC. We love to golf and fish at the ocean. We purchased our cottage from Rosie's daughters after her passing. Rosie and Kathy were neighbors and friends for over 25 years and together enjoyed the wildlife, golf and quietness River Bend had to offer. Therfore it wasn't hard coming up with the name "Rosie's Retreat" for the cottage. Kathy was born and raised in Pittsburgh, PA but moved here in 1978. I was born and raised in Raleigh, NC and moved here in 2005. Come see why others have fallen in love with "Rosie's Reteat" and the River Bend area.

Quiet and Peaceful

We needed a last minute place to stay for my grandmother's funeral during one of the busiest beach weekends of the year. Clay and Kathy were so accomodating and having Rosie's Retreat as our home base during an otherwise difficult time was such a blessing. Very easy drive to beaches (40-45 min), Jacsonville (30 minutes) and great dining and shopping just minutes away. We hope to come back for a much needed family break next year. We have rented many times through VRBO over the years and this house was clean and had every thing you needed when you arrived, no late night trip to the store for soap or paper towels, it was really lovely and I highly recommend the home as a great place to stay.

Our family was displaced for 2 months preparing to conduct a work related move and utilized Rosie's Retreat as our temp home. Great location to commute to either Camp Lejeune and/or Cherry Point. Quiet property and relaxing. Kathy & Clay are really great folks who's generosity and hospitality made us feel very welcomed and comfortable. We had an enjoyable stay and really felt at home. Highly recommended.

My family stayed for 2 nights in July 2009 for a little league baseball tournament. Although we didn't stay long, Clay and Kathy were so wonderful and certainly enjoy people. Their home was very comfortable and a pretty setting overlooking the golf course. The kids enjoyed Clay taking them on the golf course in the evening and fishing in the pond. I wish we could have stayed longer to enjoy the area more and I would highly recommend a stay at Rosies.

What a great find! We stayed at Rosis's Retreat for the 2009 MS Bike Ride, 6 in our party and had plenty of room. It was relaxing and peaceful, exactly what we needed after a long ride. Clay and Kathy are a delight and kind. It was like we were staying at our own home. Thank you for your support! We hope to see you next year!

My mother, sister and I had an enjoyable, relaxing and peaceful stay at Rosie's Retreat. In spite of a last minute change in our travel plans, Clay and Kathy were able to accommodate us at a moments notice. The home was spacious and allowed us to truly spread out and not be in each other's space - unless we wanted to. Our 4 night stay provided us with ample time for experiencing the River Bend community, as well as time to visit with relatives in the Craven/Pamlico County area. The River Bend community was great for walking. In addition, I enjoyed riding one of Rosie's Retreat bicycles - so no need to rent bikes or bring your own. Most importantly, the Hodges went out of their way to make our family comfortable and feel welcomed. I definitely plan to stay here again and hope to have completed golf lessons so that I can take advantage of the golf course right outside the cottage!

My husband and I along with my parents stayed at Rosies Retreat for a few days in April. We had a wonderful, very relaxed time. Every comfort you would need is at the house. It is very nicely furnished and the kitchen has everything you need and much more. Everywhere was very clean and well kept. The owners Kathy and Clay were very friendly and generous. Our favorite place was the screened in room overlooking the golf course. We enjoyed walking to the nearby Country Club where we had two delicious meals served by very friendly people. The beds were extremely comfortable and the area wonderfully quiet. The only thing that woke us was the songbirds, much better than an alarm clock! We have told all our friends about Rosies Retreat and hope we can return too some day. None of us could fault it in any way. Thanks again to Kathy and Clay. Paul and Chris Helsby and Mike and Val Huggins

Rosie's Retreat is truly a home away from home. It's cozy, comfortable and well equipped. The view from the Carolina room in the early morning is beautiful even in the winter! We would certainly recommend Rosie's Retreat and the hosts Clay and Kathy are exceptional and accommodating.

We arrived in New Bern NC at the end of Oct. 2008, for Nov. to the end of Feb.2009 Clay and Kathy Hodge were gracious enough to allow us to move in 2 days early, because we made faster time from Steamboat Springs Colorado then we thought we would! The location and accommodations are first class! Great view overlooking the Golf Course, from the screened Carolina room. The large open kitchen, has all the appliances and kitchen necessities you would need! Same goes for the towels and linens, you would need in the bedrooms and baths. You only need to bring your cloths and toiletries. We would rate this home as Excellent! .

We immediately felt at home in "Rosie's Retreat" from the beginning of our 3 month stay at the house. We had that feeling because we had everything (and more) that we needed in the house - fun beach cruiser bikes to ride the neighborhood of River Bend, a nice yard for our dog to play in, a beautiful BBQ grill and an awesome screened in porch where I think that we ate every meal, for 3 months. The house amenities were only out done by the wonderful owners, Clay and Kathy, who could not have been nicer or more welcoming. We were sad to leave "Rosie's" but loved New Bern so much that we decided to stay permanently. I HIGHLY recommend Rosie's Retreat for any long or short term travel needs.
