Beautiful, comfortable home situated in a good neighborhood and only a minute walk from the beach! We stayed there for a 3 day planning retreat and got a lot of work done. Patio is amazing in both the front and back. Kitchen and living areas have a lot of open space. And if you forgot to bring something don't worry about it....there's plenty of extra amenities throughout the house in the kitchen and bathrooms to keep you from running to the store. We'll be back again soon,

Great Weekend at Hale Kai

We enjoyed a wonderful weekend at your beautiful beach house. We were out in Santa Cruz to attend a dance performance of our son who is a senior at UCSC. We gathered family and friends together at the house prior to and after the show. We took some long walks on the nearby beach and enjoyed an early dinner on the upper deck where we took in the beautiful view of the ocean. The house was great for entertaining...both the inside space as well as the outside decks. Lori was very easy to work with and I would recommend this property to anyone looking for a place to stay while in Santa Cruz.

So far, we've stayed twice (once in Jan and again in Feb 2012) and I'm sure we will stay again soon. My sister, who lives in Santa Cruz, had a baby at the beginning of the year - and this home is the perfect place for us to stay when we visit. It has a fantastic kitchen, great living space, a wonderful deck, is very close to a super mellow, child-friendly beach (and has a ton of beach toys for kids to play with), and has a great mudroom to stash your own surfboards and/or bikes if you want to bring some equipment to take advantage of all the great outdoor activities that are so convenient in the area. It's also a nice walk to cute Capitola village, which has lots of shopping and restaurants. Can't wait to go again!

Thank you sooooo much! We had a great mom's get away weekend! The house was awesome! More than we even expected! Living rooms were so large, kitchen was amazing, dining area was awesome and bedrooms and baths were perfect! The decks were soooooo great and we used everyday! Oh and the front yard remodel was beautiful!!!!! And the walk to the beach was only about a minute! Thank you so much and we can't wait to rent again!!!!!!!!!!! Oh and the apartment rental was so awesome too! Perfect in every way!!!

Hale Kai beach house is our favorite house in Santa Cruz. We've had opportunities to stay at the main house and the guest house a couple of times through out the years. The house and guest house has everything we need, the location couldn't be better, everything is well maintained and we would recommend Hale Kai to our family & friends. When we finish with our daily coastal activities: surfing, boogie boarding, moonlight walks on the beach,& riding our bikes around State Park, we love to come "home" to Hale Kai and relax in the great room or the back deck, which lagoon & ocean view are beautiful. Two of my favorite things about this house is the attention to detail and how spacious it is. Nothing better than playing hard all day and then staying at Hale Kai, where you can't help but relax. Thanks for helping make memories for my family. Definitely looking to our next visit and memories!

hale kai is a wonderful place to spend a week-end, a week or longer. everything you need is provided - the completely equipped kitchen, well furnished living, dining, family and bedrooms (and all with great style.) the protected decks are perfect for dining or lounging and the beach is just a short, safe, one block walk. information on restaurants, activities, and shopping was provided in a very helpful binder. the beautiful landscaping completes the package.

Our family had a wonderful time staying at the Haw'n Style Beach house and enjoying Santa Cruz. The house was clean, comfortable and close to the beach. The best part of the house was the lanai. It had a great view of the ocean and was a perfect place to unwind and BBQ after a day at the beach. Also, renting from Lori was a nice experience. She was quick to respond to any inquires and made an extra effort to make sure we enjoyed ourselves. Thanks Lori!!

Cute beach house

This beach house was really cute. The location was great,felt safe and convienient. The kitchen was beautiful and had everything you could possibly want. My kids loved the bunk room ,and hall bath was very nice. I did take one star off because of a few things I didnt like. The queen bedroom was very small and no dresser for my clothes. The bath next to it, I am sure, is on the list to be redone. Shower was tiny and closed in and shower faucet dripped nonstop and would wake me up at night. This bathroom also had a musty smell. The deck had a great view, but also could use a little upkeep. That said, the rest of the house was beautiful and had plenty of room . Owners were also nice to work with.

We stayed a week with our three young kids, and were thrilled. I'd recommend it without hesitation. The house is beautiful and welcoming, and the owners have paid generous attention to guests' comfort. We especially enjoyed lazy family time in the open, modern kitchen and living space. The location is perfect, a quick walk to the beach for a 4yo, and a good base for day trips to Monterey or redwoods. If you're in the mood to eat out, there's a tasty brunch at Johnny's Harborside and stylish and superb romantic dining at Bonny Doon Cellar Door.

This Hawaiin Beach House at Santa Cruz, was simply wonderful. It was spacious and has lot's of natural lighting, and the highlight was definitely the proximity to the beach and the kitchen. We cooked and ate from the well stocked kitchen most of the time. This place is extremely kid friendly, with bunk beds which my kids enjoyed thoroughly. Simply put in my young daughter's words " this was the Bestest vacation places ever!!!".

This vacation home was perfect for our retreat and I personally especially loved the kitchen and the overall layout of the house. It was a good open space and with two living rooms, we had more than enough room to do what we wanted to do. It was also very close to the beach, which was a nice walk and scenery. I also enjoyed being outdoors in the sun on the balcony, and it provided a great atmosphere for a vacation. I would definitely return and it was great working with the owner as well. Definitely recommend staying at this beautiful home!!

Great House! Tho our weather was cold and rainy for the entire week, we were warm and dry at Hale Kai. Our kids loved the bunk beds. It was great to have such a nice and wonderfully equiped kitchen and laundry facilities. Home is a delight and centrally located to so many activities. My wife, 3 kids, and I took a trip to SC for Spring Break this year. We stayed at the Hale Kai beach house for 3 nights and had a wonderful experience. The cleanliness and layout of this home exceeeded our expectations. The remodel the owners did is amazing and this house is as clean as you could ever want. We were also very happy with the amount of personal items like kids toys and games, beach towels and toys, boogie boards and skim boards, and a fully stocked kitchen. There is a lot of space and choices for dining areas including indoor and outdoor seating. The weather was magical during our days, so we barbequed and spent a lot of time outside. There was even a storage area for our bikes. The beach accross the street was awesome and it was abeautiful short bike ride to the boardwalk and wonderful the shops on Pacific Street. This is a great all around beach house and we will be back!

We absolutely loved staying at your fabulous home! Great location near the beach, Santa Cruz boardwalk, hiking, and many other activities. The house is well stocked with everything you would need during your stay and the rooms are beautifully decorated, just as the photos show. Very clean and roomy. Inside the home you feel very much as if you are on your own private getaway....no noise issues from the street or the tenants renting the adjacent apartment on the property-everything is very separated. We would highly recommend this property and we would love to come back!

Lori & John we all had a wonderful time in your home. The set up and floor plan was great. ALl of the girls were so pleased they all want to come back and bring their families. The remodeled kitchen was an added bonus. We stayed in and had drinks on the deck in the evening and made appitizers for dinner. You had all the information there for us when we had any questions. It was the BEST experience I had ever had staying in a rental property. The house was spotless, immaculate and very clean. I did not feel like it was a rental at all. I felt at home. Hale Kai lives up to its reputation from all the other vacationers who have stayed there--excellent! True to the website, this is much more than a beach house...it is a "home" with every amenity you could ask for. The kitchen is state of the art, the beds are very comfortable, living spaces in the family, living and dining rooms are clean, spacious and tastefully decorated. The owners have provided games for all ages, boogie boards, beach towels and every spice you would ever need to barbeque or prepare a meal in the fabulous kitchen. With the ocean in view from the upper deck and a few blocks away,Hale Kai is a wonderful house to enjoy in any season (we were there in late October) with an adult family (as was ours) or with children.

Our family had a wonderful time at this beach house with Hawaiian motif. We have 3 children and they thoroughly enjoyed the bunk beds and the ample space provided in the living room and dining room. We enjoyed our meals in the updated kitchen and had a few dinners on the spacious 2 level deck with our gaze fixed on a view of the ocean from only a block away. The house is conveniently located as it is a short drive to the Santa Cruz boardwalk, the town of Capitola and other shopping areas.

We really enjoyed our stay at Hale Kai. Easy access to the beach and great view from the deck. Lots of space and amenities in the house. The kitchen/great room area is the perfect place to gather around and eat, chat or just relax. Perfect location between the Boardwalk and Capitola. An ideal base for a vacation in Santa Cruz. The house is decorated to a very high standard and well maintained, the pictures don't do it justice. The deck of the house has a great view of the sea and there is easy access to the beach; there are also boogie boards as well as books and board games provided.There is a helpful guide in the house to the many activities in the area but we spent most of the time on the local beach. The owner has thought of everything possible to provide for the needs of visitors and has been helpful with all of our queries. We would definitely recommend this house.

Great Family Beach Rental

Thank you Lori and John for your awesome beachhouse. We met our family from Texas in Santa Cruz and rented this lovely Hawaiian Beach House for 1 week. We had a blast and felt very comfortable. With kids ages 6,6, 5,4 and 6 months, the house met our every need. First, we cooked every meal as the kitchen was fully loaded with all of the tools a cook should ever need. We also grilled and enjoyed the deck that provided a beautiful view of the ocean. Wonderful place to enjoy a cup of coffee before the kids woke up. Second, one bedroom includes a double bunk bed - the older kids enjoyed sleeping toegther and their own space. We also loved all of the games, toys and video tapes that are provided in the home. Lori, you thought of everything! Thank you! Overall, this home is a place to return every year. The owners have put a lot of style and spirit into the home and once you stay, you'll want to return.

While the accomodations were excellent the owner, Lori, went above and beyond to make sure our stay was enjoyable. A "treat" was to open the refrigerator and closets and find condiments and spices galore. We added to the horde. The view from the deck is well worth the price to rent. We spent as much time on the deck as we did inside the house, which is both excellently stocked to make your stay delightful and the room layout allows those who want some quiet time to relax in the living room, while others enjoy the great room. The motif adds to the comfort and the location affords a quick trip to the many sights in Santa Cruz and down the coast to Monterray. Would stay here again.

We had a wonderful time at your beautiful, spacious beach house. It was a perfect location. The neighborhood was quiet and peaceful. All I can say is WOW! This place was fantastic--we actually had both the main house and the upstairs one bedroom unit. Took our 2 year old son for his first trip to the beach along with both sets of grandparents. Plenty of room, so clean, fully equipped--even with some toys to keep the little one busy during downtime. A quick jaunt to the beach and all the places we wanted to visit. We will be back next year, guaranteed!

Dear Lori and John, Thank you for letting us rent your beautiful Hawaiian style beach house. It is truly the most beautiful and upgraded rental beach house ever! It was well equipped with everything you could think of, nice kitchen appliances, linens, towels, and even videos for the kids to boogie boards and sand toys. We really liked the open floor plan so you could talk to everyone no matter where they were in the house. The deck had a beautiful view and we enjoyed the gas grill too. The Hale Kai information binder is a great resource for sight seeing, shopping, restaurants etc.. The flat panel TV was great to watch the Olympics. We also liked the fact that the beach nearby was not so crowded and of course the easy beach access. We will definitely be back next summer! Thanks again for sharing your beautiful home with my family.

We spent a week at the beach house in April 2008 and loved every minute. Coming from upstate NY where we didn't yet have spring we loved seeing the sunshine and all the beautiful flowers. The house was very well equipped with all the necessities for a carefree vacation. I was pleased with the quality of the kitchen appliances and utensils, I must say usually at a rental house you get the 'camping' left overs - but not here, I felt like we were a treasured guest. The extras for us were the private decks (with great views), WiFi internet access and the gas BBQ grill. Not being right on the beach was great...it was not as winding or too cool and the short walk was great exercise. We spent some time in San Francisco, which isn't that far, and then drove Highway 1 north ... the scenic views were amazing. I took hundreds of pictures. Thank you for sharing your little corner of California with us.

Dear John and Lori, We LOVED our stay in your charming, clean, very tastefully decorated vacation home. The house was more spacious than we anticipated, and all the Hawaiian decor made us feel immediately relaxed after a long day of travel. We loved the wide crown moldings, granite countertops and new stainless steel appliances. Everything we needed was at our fingertips, the house was well stocked and the binder of local information was more thorough than any vacation home or hotel usually provides. The location of the house is perfect, a great ocean and lagoon view and short walk to an uncrowded beach. My 4 and 8 year old girls loved their full size bunk beds, kids' video/dvds, and boogie boards you provided. My youngest child said "I NEVER want to leave this house!" We wanted to let you know how much we enjoyed staying at the Hale Kai - the charm of the home, your decorator touches in every room, the insane ocean and lagoon views from the deck, and every other detail in the home from the flat panel tv to your silverwear were truly amazing. The home had a very happy feeling (which always comes from it's owners) and was so relaxing and just the perfect location for our anniversary vacation. We enjoyed taking daily walks along the beach and the home's central proximity to everything in Santa Cruz. The weather was outstanding, scored some good waves, ate the best tasting produce we have ever had via the local Farmer's Markets, and enjoyed some breathtaking hikes at Nisene and Henry Cowell's state parks in the redwoods - what else could you ask for! Staying at the Hale Kai and having the Aloha Island Grille down the street was like combining the best of Hawaii and Santa Cruz into one - what a great place to have down the street from your island inspired home.

We had a wonderful time in this beautiful home. It was not only very clean and comfortable. it was also obvious that the owners put a lot of thought into all the little special touches. I would definitely stay here again. My teenage sons would agree as well!

We enjoyed the house a lot! We especially loved that everything we needed was there - like plenty of paper towels and even laundry soap - things you do not expect to be provided. The big TV was great and we enjoyed lots of movies on it. Thanks for a great week Lori!

Lori, We had an absolutely wonderful experience with your property. The kitchen is very large and extremely well appointed. It really helped having so much "basic" beach equipment provided (Towels, mats, boogie boards...), as well as so many of the kitchen accessories that you normally have to purchase when vacationing. The location is ideal and the beach really does feel almost private. We felt at home from the first day there - We'll certainly be back. Thank you.

This is an absolutely beautiful home that has been very tastefully redecorated. The furnishings look more like what you would expect to see in a professional's home than in a vacation rental. There is ample parking in the driveway and on the moderately traveled street. The nearby beach is large, beautiful and almost private--even on the weekend. The best feature of this home has to be its owners. I've never had a more pleasant experience dealing with any business person. They were courteous, responsive and helpful. This property comes highly recommended.
