We stayed the week of Easter and even though the weather wasn't great, the accommodations were very comfortable and we had more than enough space. The cottage was very clean and quite roomy. The hardwood floors were beautiful and great for me, since I have allergies. The beds were comfortable and the kitchen was well stocked. Access to the beach was directly across the street and we could see some ocean views from the porch. We had a problem with the cable TV in the living room and the owner had someone over on Easter morning to fix the problem. We weren't expecting someone to come that quickly. Watching TV wasn't our priority on this trip but since the weather was bad, it was nice to have in the main room. The other TV's in the bedrooms were fine. We would definitely rent this cottage again.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

My husband my self and our 2 small children, really enjoyed our stay here. This home was so clean, and adorably decorated. The kitchen was well stocked, they even had a crockpot! it really was homey. The screened porch was very nice and the walk to the beach is short. We have been to alot of NC beaches and Holden really felt right. Quaint with enough to do on a rainy day or even rainy few days. The drive off the island is short from this home which made grocery shopping or dining out or even venturing out to southport and myrtle for the day very easy!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.

I stayed at the Sandbox with my family in July. My kids had a great time hanging out on the screen porch watching the people pass by on the way to the beach. The home was decorated well and we were able to find nearly everything we needed already there at the house. The showers downstairs are very helpful, and the hose out front saved us from dragging sand everywhere. We had a great time in this rental and would consider renting here again. It is very easy to navigate around town and the beach is right across the street. The owners are very easy to communicate with and were helpful with setting up the reservations.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, families with young children, tourists without a car.

This is an adorable beach cottage like the ones you read about in fiction novels! It is decorated super cute and was very clean when we arrived. There was more than enough room for my family of 4. This was our 1st time traveling to Holden Beach, it was a girls weekend with my mother, myself, and my 2 daughters age 8 & 1. We hope to return someday and would definitely stay in the same place again! All of the basics we needed were there for us to use and the beach was just a short walk away. The screened in porch was handy for the little ones and had some peekaboo views of the ocean. We were able to walk to the local restaurants, the candy shop, and the slushy shop. Overall we had an amazing week and this place was a bargain!Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

I recently stayed in this home with my sister, brother-in-law, my two nephews and our younger brother. It was FANTASTIC!! We enjoyed the house very much and the rental rate is worth every penny. The beach is a few seconds across the street and was pratically deserted the entire week we were there. We spent one day in Myrtle at the Aquarium and Alligator Adventure but most of our vacation was spent at the house. There is a Food Lion & Walmart just a few moments up the road. We cooked almost every meal there as the kitchen is completely stocked. The house was also extremely clean when we arrived. We hope to vacation here again & again. Thanks for allowing us to stay!Recommended for: Age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway.

I had an amazing vacation at this home. It was our first time at Holden Beach and I must say it is by far my favorite beach! This home is just what it appears to be. A lovely little cottage by the sea. It is so well decorated that it felt like my home not just a rental. The location could not have been better. It is directly across from a private access path. And by private I mean that we would, daily, be the only family on the beach. We set up right in front of the path and there wasn't another chair within 300 ft. +. I was perfect for me and my little ones. I ended up being there by myself and four small children and the fact that there was a street light at the end of the driveway helped in my feeling secure. The screen porch afforded me the opportunity to let the kids be outside without being outside. It is wonderful. And the breeze that flows through will keep in that beach state of mind. The owner was so helpful and kind in our dealings about the property. Always prompt in responding to questions. Overall our experience was wonderful. I will most definitely be back. Thank You.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, tourists without a car, romantic getaway.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Sandbox! The house is conveniently located, and had great access to the beach. This is our 9th visit at Holden for my husband and me (I have been coming to Holden since childhood- 21 years), and I can honestly say that this was the first year that we’ve rented a house that I didn’t feel like I needed to “re-clean” before I unpacked!! It was in immaculate condition upon our arrival. The house is very charming- I loved the fact that the owners kept the older beach house feel, while updating the interior to make it very comfortable. We were rained in for most of our stay (actually ended up leaving early due to tropical storm threats), so we spent a lot of time in the house. Like others have mentioned, we LOVED the screened in porch. Our little one was especially impressed with the child’s table and chair set on the porch. The only suggestion I would make is to maybe consider adding a few more cable channels- of course, I'm sure that’s probably not an issue for sunny weeks! HA! I highly recommend a stay at this house. It is the perfect size for small families. The owners were wonderful to work with. We plan to return to the Sandbox- and hopefully we will pick a better week for good weather! Thank you so much for sharing your house with us!!Recommended for: Families with young children, girls getaway, tourists without a car.

We had a great week at Holden Beach staying at the Sandbox :) It was so nice being able to skip the realtor/renter crowds and go straight to the house (which is very conveniently located). We had no problem getting into the house and it was extremely clean and comfortable. I have to agree with everyone else-the screened in porch is awesome. We were on the porch more than we were inside the house! The location of the house is great because you are within walking distance of a lot of places. We walked to Castaways Bar a few times as well as the Italian Ice place next to the candy store. The spot by the beach access is nice because it never got too crowded- unlike down by some of the larger houses with bigger groups. Beach access was fantastic/easy, owners were so great to work with, and Holden Beach was even better than I remembered from when I used to vacation there with my family as a kid 15 years ago. It was hard to leave!Recommended for: Families with young children, girls getaway, tourists without a car.
Owner response: Thanks for the nice response. Glad you enjoyed a nice week!

We just got back from a week's stay at Holden Beach. We loved it! The house was really clean and nice. We especially loved the screened in porch. We had a little glitz with the air conditioning but it was taken care of very quickly. The owners were extremely easy to work with and very nice. We will definitely be going to Holden again. The beach was just across the street and easy to get too. We loved that. Great places to eat out and one night we just bought seafood and cooked in and ate on the screened in porch. It was great.Recommended for: Girls getaway
Owner response: Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for staying.

We stayed here in 08 for our family's annual beach vacation. The house was perfect for our family of 4. We ate nightly on the screened in porch and enjoyed the fresh beach air. We walked down to the ice cream and candy shops regularly. The beach access is directly across the street which made it easy to get to and from the beach with all of our things and toddler in tow. We are hoping to come back next year.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 3/3

4/14/08-4/21/2008 What a great, relaxing place! We loved sitting on the screen porch listening to the waves. Beach access was easy and convenient. I would highly recommend The Sand Box. We had an excellent week-long stay at the house in mid-June. The beds were comfy, the kitchen had plenty of space, the beach access couldn't have been easier, and you can't beat the price! All in all, it was a wonderful week, and we wouldn't hesitate to come back again.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 2/2

We had an awesome stay and were very comfortable. The beach access is easy and the beach itself was the best we've ever enjoyed. A minor plumbing problem was resolved so fast that it seemed like it hadn't happened. Very hospitable owners. Thanks for the great vacation.Did you find this review helpful? 21st March to 5th April 2008: This was our first visit to NC, and we had a most wonderful time. The beach house is a dream, wonderful amenities, a proper 'home from home'. Having my early morning coffee, or my evening glass of wine listening to the waves on the shore was pure magic. I cannot wait to return to what I can only describe as 'paradise'. Thank you so much and see you very soonDid you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 2/2
