Estes Park cottage description

2014 WINTER SPECIAL!! STARTING JAN.2ND - MAY 1ST....STAY 2 OR MORE NIGHTS AND GET ONE NIGHT FREE!!!!!

MURPHY'S RIVERSIDE COTTAGE

The Murphy family would like to invite you to stay in their 1930's Arts & Crafts style cottage which sets on the banks of the Big Thompson River.

The cottage has a large deck where you can actually fish right from the deck or just sit and listen to the soothing sounds of the river. You can also look out at the wonderful views of the Mummy Range, which is part of Rocky Mountain National Park, watch the abundance of wildlife, or just enjoy the sunshine. And then after all that fishing and hiking you can take a long hot bath in the antique claw foot bathtub which also has a shower.

The south entrance to Rocky Mountain National Park is about a mile west of the cottage and downtown Estes Park is about a mile east.

This cottage is available year round.

We really enjoyed our stay at this cabin. It feels like it's in the remote countryside, but there are plenty of restaurants and stores just a few minutes away. We saw several deer in the yard, and one day there was even a bear! I wish we could have bought it and stayed there for ever!

My friend and I wanted to get away and do a little scrapbook retreat since we could go on our usual retreat. We choose Estes Park for this time of year, where traffic is light but the scenery is still inspiring. This cottage is very roomy and a loaded kitchen. I'm sure at other times of the year the river is a huge plus, but it was completely frozen this trip. Lots of big windows to view the beauty. We were greeted two of the mornings by a small elk herd. I can only speak for the main bedroom, but the matress wasn't very comfortable, (which is why I gave a good rating instead of excellent.) But the rest of the cottage was charming. The Wifi is a huge plus, allowing us to keep in contact with our families. This sweet cottage is in a great location, easy accessibility to Rocky Mountain National Park, or to the wonderful shops in Estes. Very close to the best restaurant, "Smokin' Dave's BBQ". Definitely want to stay here again when the river is running!

Loved our stay at the Fishing Cottage in Estes! Very easy to find and located at convenient distances from Downtown Estes and Rocky Mountain National Park. The cottage was clean, stocked, and felt like home away from home. The photos DO NOT accurately reflect the property because the property is MUCH BETTER in person! Totally blown away by how nice and spacious all the rooms in the cottage are. First VRBO experience and it was absolutely painless, easy, and much fun. Would recommend this to anyone.

We had a fabulous 5 nights at the cottage - we were concerned about the recent fires, yet the air was clear and the afternoon rains were consistent which was GREAT for the area. The cottage was GREAT in that it was really spacious and would have easily accommodated 6 people. It was only 10 minutes to town and hearing the river constantly was just fabulous!!! The deck was great and fun to eat out on or drink coffee while watching for critters! Would highly recommend this cottage and we met Mike, the owner who is your typical VERY NICE Colorado person... the people in CO are simply super nice and down to earth - was hard to come back to the South East!!!

The location of the cabin was fantastic! We saw a herd of elk crossing next to the cottage as they made their way to the river. It was also conveniently located to the town and RMNP. The cottage would have been more enjoyable if the bathroom was cleaner (the carpet smelled) and a little more updated. The mattresses were pretty worn out! We also would have appreciated being reimbursed for the two fans we purchased due to the unprecedented heat wave. Overall it was a cute cottage in need of a little updating but a fabulous location!

Manager response: First I would like to say our cleaners are the best in Estes. I know that bathroom was as clean as we can get it. Yes it is dated but you are in an original Estes Park cottage and it takes time and money to do all the things the owners would like to do. As far as the carpet. I was in there and did not notice it smelling but then again I didn't stick my face into the carpet. I have notified the owners and they are looking into what odor they may be smelling. Can’t really comment on the beds. Never laid on them. This is the first complaint I have had about them in all years we have been managing the cottage. This one angers me. The fans. They asked for fans we went and purchased 2 of them. To our surprise they went a head and also bought 2 of them. They informed me of this after we already purchased fans and then left them at the cottage. No problem there we took ours back. They told me that they would leave a receipt at the cabin if I could reimburse them for there purchase. I said no problem. After they left we went to the cabin to pick up the fans we bought and looked everywhere for a receipt. Did not find one. This being said. It is busy season here in Estes and I did forget about the fans. All they would have had to do is email me to remind me and I would and still will gladly refund them for the fans. Guests forget that we are human also. And why they have to throw it out here on this on line guest book is beyond me. The cabin has been enjoyed for many years by many guests. Thank you for reading my response.

The house was older but cozy. We had some issues with light bulbs being out, and evidence that mice were present. Overall, the location quiet and serene, and we enjoyed seeing the wildlife that visited during our stay.

Recommended for: Romantic getaway, age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway.

Manager response: We do not check every light in the cottage so we do rely on our guests sometimes to tell us what light bulbs are out. If we were contacted about them being out we would of came out and put in new bulbs or told them where we store them in the cottage. It is that time of year for mice and we can't always keep them out. It always seems like just one little guy gets in and once he is gone we don't have anymore trouble. It also has been taken care of.

Great cabin with tons of space. Secluded enough to have lots of privacy but extremely convenient to town and RMNP. Check-in/out was easy and everything was clean and in great condition. Cooking out and dinner on the double deck overlooking the river was perfection - highly recommend this cabin.

My partner and I stayed in the cabin for several nights in Aug '08. The roaring river in the back was wonderful. We cooked in for dinner the whole time we were there and enjoyed eating out on the large deck in the back. Short drive to downtown Estes Park and Rocky Mountain National Park. Had a wonderful trip!
