The spacious first floor of this private waterfront house is available for weekly rent BEGINNING JUNE 2008.
(Note: The second floor is a separate apartment, occupied by the owner, a single woman. Each floor is completely separate and private.)
The house fronts on a quiet residential street, with a large deck on the waterside overlooking the outer harbor and Penobscot Bay, with Blue Hill and Cadillac Mountain (Acadia National Park) on the horizon beyond Islesboro and Castine. From the deck you descend a flight of stairs to a garden terrace (pick your own salad for lunch!), including a hot water outdoor shower and a hot tub; walk down a winding path through a field of tall grass and wildflowers to a private stair leading to a secluded gravelly beach. (At high tide it is unreachable except by water [and your stairs]; at low tide you can walk along the shore).
There is a spacious and comfortable living room with wood-burning parlor stove, a convenient and well-equipped kitchen/dining room, and sliding glass doors opening onto the deck. At the opposite end of the living room you enter the two-level master bedroom suite from which French doors open onto a private balcony and stairs lead down to a cozy family room with a door out to the garden and hot tub. On the other side of the living room is a second bedroom with its own half bath. Furniture is all tasteful and comfortable, including a few antiques; there are hardwood floors, oriental rugs, and original fine art on the walls.
Sleeping accommodations are suitable for no more than 4 adults (two couples) in two separate bedrooms; note that a third possible sleeping area is the "family room" connected to the master bedroom by an open stair, and this room shares the master bath. It would be fine for close friends or children. |
