Location: Colonia Obraje, San Miguel de Allende, Guanajuato, Central Mexico, Mexico (1-1/2 hr from Leon Airport (BJX) - shuttle service avail.)

Accommodations:  Home, 2 Bedrooms, 2.5 Baths (Sleeps 4)

We love everything about San Miguel, but at night we like to sleep! In our casa we have all the fun and excitement this beautiful UNESCO World Heritage city has to offer PLUS a peaceful and luxurious retreat away from the noise and congestion. We were lucky to discover the smallest and most secret of all San Miguel neighborhoods: Colonia Obraje. It's just beyond the fray but an easy stroll into Centro; our casa is just high enough for great views, but there's only one steep block, not a mountain climbing adventure to get home! (If even one steep block is too much to climb, taxis are cheap and plentiful.) This older and up and coming neighborhood is a delightful mix of Mexican families and US artists.
Our spacious home has expansive views from inside as well as from terraces on three levels. The living room has a cushy L-shaped sofa framing the fireplace and the view out the French doors – a perfect place for conversation, reading, listening to music or watching the good size TV kept tucked away inside an armoire.
The large and well-appointed kitchen with black cantera stone
counters and dark wood cabinetry is open to the living-dining area
so the cook can keep up with the conversation. Through a glass door off the kitchen, there is an intimate courtyard with a tiled
fountain, perfect for morning coffee.
Upstairs the luxury-sized master suite has a private balcony through two sets of French doors, oversized upholstered easy chairs with ottoman, blockout curtains, a ceiling fan over the queen-size bed, walk-through designer closet with built-in drawers to the master bath with travertine tumbled marble walls, double sinks, soaking tub and separate shower. Wake up to the view of the mountains from bed, or step outside to the balcony to see city views and to see late evening fireworks at El Jardin!
The second bedroom is small but full of charm and has views of the hills, queen size bed, block out curtains, full closet, with a bathroom (travertine tumbled marble)next door.
The central area on the second level has a desk, ergonomic chair, wireless high speed internet hookup and the Vonage phone.
The saltillo tile roof terrace has panoramic views of SMA & countryside. Great for sunbathing or star-gazing on the chaise lounges.
The huge basement with 20' high ceilings is all white with handsome columns and has both natural and artificial light, making it a phenomenal artist's studio, or whatever!
The house is located on a quiet street with no thru traffic. Just 5 minute walk to the exciting Fabrica La Aurora galleries, artist studios, restaurants, antique & designer shops. A 15-20 minute mostly-level charming stroll to El Jardin, passing through a gorgeous old hacienda, by the daily farmers' market, the
artisans' market and through two other beautiful plazas. For more photos & info, please visit our website. (More info link below.)

    • Bob and I truly enjoyed our stay in your beautiful home for the month of March 2009. We really liked the afternoons and evenings. The patio right off the kitchen and living area was wonderful. It was a beautiful vista to enjoy a nice glass of wine (or two) with the many friends that we met in San Miguel. You had everything imaginable in the home for our use. The artwork and furnishings were great. Javier and Elba were both very helpful, delightful, and friendly. We also enjoyed meeting all of your neighbors. We even played with the children in the neighborhood a couple of times. We will truly miss San Jacinto 12.

    • Thanks again for the opportunity to stay at your lovely San Miguel home this past February. It was comfortable and well equipped, and your informational book was outstanding. In addition, both Javier and Elba were delightful to work with. We were sorry to close the door and say good bye to San Jacinto #12 on Saturday.

    • We rented Stephanie and Will's casa for the month of November and loved every minute of. The house is elegant and beautifully appointed and is located in a substantially Mexican neighborhood which enhanced the experience for us. It was just enough off the tourist trail to seem removed from the hubub. Often we made the 15 minute walk to El Jardin several times a day and thought nothing of it. The taxi back was about $2.00US. You can't beat it. San Miguel has great restaurants and a sophisticated art scene. We hope to return next year.

    • Lovely home, beautiful artwork, excellent location. Our stay in San Miguel was wonderful; tasty food, lots of interesting people watching at El Jardin, pleasant weather in October. Bring some good walking shoes for the cobblestone streets. A day trip to see the Pyramids of Teotihuacan by Mexico City is well worth it. No doubt about it you will love San Miguel.

    • We stayed in the Casa for the whole month of September and had a great time. Great kitchen! Beautiful views and really good location. Walk to Jardin was easy and taxi ride back up the hill was cheap. San Miguel is growing but still laid back. Even the taxi drivers are polite, don't honk horns and let you walk across the street. Lots of good restaurants of all kinds and lots of things to do. House tours are inexpensive and fun as are the tours to the outlying areas. the 1st class bus to Guanajuato was fantastic and only $8 each way. Lots fireworks and plenty of nightly noises to remind you that you are in Mexico ( dogs, kids and roosters). This is still a nice part of Mexico and a truly fun house to stay in.

    • I can't emphasize enough how fantastic this home was for the month we rented it. We have rented places before and had a vast aray of experiences. This home had absolutely everything we needed. We do cook, and from the cookware to the spices we lacked nothing! The bed was great! The views are beautiful. The guidebooks were helpful. I spent a great deal of time trying to think of what we could have needed and came up empty! Thank you both for allowing us to comfortably visit San Miguel!

    • We enjoyed our 7 day stay in your lovely home. The house was beautifully designed and furnished but also very comfortable and livable. For those of you wondering, the house is a very easy and enjoyable 15 minute walk from El Jardin or the center of town. Thanks again for sharing your great home with us. We will be back and we will be referring your home as a place to stay for our family and many friends when in San Miguel!

    • We have nothing but positive comments about your house in Colonia Obraje. The art work, folk art, and textiles made it warm and welcoming. The mango colors of the interior, peachy, golden, and pink, shifted with the angle of the sun. The roof deck with its view of town and the hills behind was spectacular. We loved watching the sunrise and sunset, the daily migration of the white-faced ibis, the hot air balloons that sometimes floated overhead, it was always changing. We lacked for nothing as the house was well equipped with top- end furnishings. We would highly recommend this lovely home.

    • Dear Stephanie and Will, As I add these comments to your guest book from your lovely casa in San Miguel de Allende, I feel at a loss of words to fully describe to you how much your home has added to our stay in Mexico. This has been our 7th consecutive winter vacation in Central America and it was the longest one with 7 weeks, but this is the first time that neither Jim nor I want to head home to Ohio. In previous years we started longing for our familiar comforts at home long before we reached the end of our vacation - not this time. Of course, much of the credit goes to beautiful San Miguel de Allende, the glorious weather, and the friendly people here, but the growing sadness I feel in preparation of our departure this coming Wednesday is to a large extent a reflection of how comfortable we are in your casa. Thank you very much for sharing your vacation home with us. Best wishes, Marita and Jim.
