Welcome to "Elmhurst" Captain Cook's 1890's shingle style farmhouse SOH (South of the Montauk Highway) on Ocean Road in the estate section of Bridgehampton, New York -world class summer gathering place.
This 5,000 square foot family home sits on 1.3 acres of lawns and mature trees and is only a few minutes walk to the beach. The property includes a beautiful pool surrounded by brick terracing and a 50 bush mature rose garden. The long gravel driveway opens to a parking area that accommodates several cars or boat trailers. There is an authentic red barn to the side of the drive used to house utility equipment.
Enjoy lunch on the south facing terrace followed by a swim in the pool or stroll to the beach. Sip white wine on the shaded front porch and watch the world go by. Entertain guests or family in the dining room that seats 12 or al fresco on the terrace.
The home has 4 wood-burning fireplaces, 1 in each of the two master suites, a beautiful light and airy living room and a cozy red library. Maid's quarters are off the full country kitchen. There is a first and second floor master suite each with queen bed and bath. There are 4 upstairs bedrooms (two queens, two twins in one bedroom and one twin in the remaining bedroom) with an additional hall bath. And if you are an antique lover you will enjoy the two clawfoot bath tubs.
The home is furnished with white painted wood furniture (some antique)in the dining room, toile covered goose down sofas and love seats in the living room and library. The bedrooms are comfortable and light. We've tried to maintain the character and style of the home to reflect its age and architecture while still being warm, welcoming and elegant. The property includes weekly pool service, bi-weekly trash removal, weekly lawn maintenance and weekly housekeeping(not including laundry) services.

- Beginning in July is the international polo meet in Bridgehampton - about a ten minute drive from the house. The world class Hampton's Classic horse show and dressage competition is held every August. The area has several excellent wineries with daily tours and tastings. The Hamptons are also known for hosting elegant charity events open to the public from designer fashion auctions to dancing under the stars. Check danspapers.com for listings and invitations to exciting events. Autumn in the Hamptons is truly beautiful - a stroll on the beach plus the October International Film Festival attracts a bevy of artists, actors and writers to the stunning waterside location. Fun for kids - picking apples, pumpkins, pony rides - October in the Hamptons is a wonderful family time.

The house has been in our family for 69 years - it was purchased by my father as a country retreat for the family when we lived in New York City.
The Unique Benefits of this House
If you enjoy old houses and antiques, you will love Elmhurst. It has a wonderful charm and warmth not often found in newer houses. The location is stellar - within walking distance of one of the few public beaches in the Hamptons. Since there is little public parking for the Ocean Rd beach access it remains relatively empty - even in high season. If surf casting is your passion, walk to the beach in the early morning and enjoy the solitude.
