What could possibly go wrong

This is without a doubt the best flat I've ever spent time in. My father and I had an incredible experience here. Not only is the residence itself wonderful (and it truly is) but John has thought of everything. There was food and wine ready for our arrival. There was a bag to take to the baths complete with towels (baths were amazing by the way). And there were John's guides and musings that we truly enjoyed reading. We used the taxi driver (Pulai) that he recommended to pick us up at the airport and train station for 2 different trips into Budapest. He was a gem. We had a minor accident in the home and called Ilona the local caretaker and she couldn't have been more helpful. The beds were comfortable. The facilities included free computer usage and WiFi, washer and dryer, and VoIP (which was fantastic for calling family in the USA). All of this before we even begin to talk about the location. First, the location was extremely quiet. I once heard a pigeon outside, but that was the extent of the external noise. But Vaca Utci was an easy 90 second walk from the front door. The Danube may have taken 5 minutes to reach. The subway station (which is the hub of all the major lines) was less than 5 minutes. There are incredible restaurants all around. I'm in extremely picky eater and never had anything less than excellent for food. Budapest is such a fabulous city. It is so photogenic (2nd only to Venice in my eyes). The people are so friendly. There is absolutely none of the big city odor that I think of in London, Rome, New York, etc. My dad said "This whole city is like Paris without the attitude... it's like the whole city is on Xanex... just mellow and happy." Apartment Sarah was a big part of why we were so mellow and happy for our visit and why we're each plotting our return trips already. John, you're the best. We will be back if you'll have us.

The building has an Iron Curtain-y feel--the stairwells are dim, and there are several locked gates you must pass to access the apartment. But once you figure out the keys and get inside, the apartment is beautiful and modern, very home-y, and full of many amenities. There are maps, guidebooks, incredible Turkish towels, teas and coffees, and maybe the best thing, a Vonage phone line that allows you to call back home (the US) completely free of charge. The owner also has provided lengthy and very helpful packets of information to help you get the most out of your Budapest experience. And the place could not be more central to everything. I did not use public transportation once, as I was able to walk everywhere, albeit lengthy walks; but walking through such a beautiful and fascinating city was the whole point! The bathroom is spotless and modern. My only caveat is that the sleeping area is a loft and would be cozy for a couple. I was alone, so it was pleasantly cozy for me. One final note--there was a mix-up with my reservation, and the owner was at work immediately trying to fix the situation and ultimately, as a goodwill gesture, offered to let me stay the three nights for free. So he truly cares about the experience of his guests.

Texans in Budapest, Pali Family

Sarah, Belle & Liesel provided the perfect lodging setup for our family – a couple travelling with our two grown boys and daughter-in-law. We each had our own apartment and could close them off at night for privacy or open the connecting doors to make one very large space for sharing meals and visiting. The apartments are everything all the other reviews mention: very central to all the main attractions, very clean with comfortable furniture, well-stocked with kitchen appliances and utensils and staples provided. It’s all in the description John gives on the website. We especially appreciated (1) the hair dryers provided so we didn’t have to bring ours along and struggle with the correct adapters, (2) the 110 strips for recharging our phones and cameras, (3) the internet connections, (4) the plastic coated instruction sheets for everything in the apartments and much other helpful information about Budapest, in general and (5) the wonderful bottle of wine, pastries, and stocked refrigerators left for us in each apartment! We had a blast seeing the sights during the day and arriving “home” in the evening often with groceries and wine in tow to prepare our own meals and chill out and rest up. We tried our culinary skills with Hungarian Goulash and it was quite tasty! During our week there, our guys got in touch with their Hungarian roots and we all learned a lot of history about the country! Besides all the wonderful tourist attractions of Budapest, some highlights of our trip, we’d definitely recommend for first-time visitors are the “hop-on hop-off” Big Bus Tours for the first day or two to get directional bearings on where things are and the history that goes along with each site, an evening illuminated tour accompanied by the music of Franz Liszt (“magical”), the Danube Bend Day Trip to Esztergom and Szentendre and a day trip to Vienna via the 3-hour train trip out of Keleti Station. In Vienna, we again took the hop-on hop-off bus trips located in the Karlsplatz City Centre and saw the main sights of Vienna in a day, with ample time to walk through the Schonbrunn Castle. In both Budapest and Vienna, we recommend the Underground Public Transport Rail system to and from the train station (or even specific sights) you want to get to in a hurry. They operate there as efficiently as any city in Europe. We loved every minute of our trip and appreciate all John’s good advice and answers to all our questions as we prepared for our trip!

Well-appointed comfortable apartment, great location, and owner is the perfect host/concierge

“Sarah,” was immaculate, comfortable, stylish, affordable, centrally located, and fully equipped with everything we could possibly need (with “added-value” extras such as a Mac computer, free Wifi, free Hungarian cell phone, free international calling through a VoIP, a library of great DVDs and books). The apartment has a set of guides for apartment FAQs, life in Budapest, and adventures in local dining. We can say from experience that the advice is sound and the dining guide particularly is valuable, since John recommends many fine local restaurants you won’t find in Fodor or Rick Steves. When you first encounter John’s Budapest apartments, you’re directed to an amazingly comprehensive website, , encompassing Budapest history, gastronomy, sightseeing, shopping, and apartment information, not to mention a series of personal blogs from the host himself. The site offers a video tour of each of the 7 different rentals personally managed by him. And we do mean “personally”: John calls you when you check in and is always available by email or telephone to respond to emergencies (you won’t have any), innocent queries, or complex requests. He and all his Budapest-based staff members are also excellent. For example, while we had no emergency in our 9-week stay, any request was treated as an emergent need and handled promptly and often beyond the call of duty: More hangers, a new battery, extra converters, light bulbs, instructions to give to a sommelier to ensure a perfect multi-region Hungarian wine tasting, and so on. We may have a somewhat different perspective than many renters, as we stayed in the same apartment for over 2 months. However, long stays often reveal the difficulties as well as the advantages. We only found advantages here. Having spent over a year in a rented apartment in Tokyo and two months in Rouen, plus one- to two-week rental stays elsewhere, we know that first impressions can be misleading. Yet, our longish rental experience in Budapest has brought us more and more admiration for what John does for guests in this city (and country) he loves. This is, simply, the best, most comfortable, and most enlightening time we’ve ever had abroad. If you are thinking about visiting Budapest, even if it is a fleeting thought, we strongly recommend that (a) you do so; and (b) you contact John and Jeanne about accommodations. We know you will be well-served on both counts, whether you stay two days or two months.

My wife and I stayed in Apartment Sarah for 4 nights. What really makes this place a great place to stay is its location, which is central to most places you might wish to go (I was so glad we didn't end up on the Buda side of the river!), and the thoughtfulness of the owners, who have provided many detailed notes on where to visit and eat. They can arrange pickups from the airport, and provide local mobile phones if you think you might use them. The facilities are modern and they all work. There isn't a dishwasher, but that hardly matters for 2 people and you eat out most of the time. The bed is located in the mezzanine floor and I found it a bit cramped, hence 4 stars not 5, but my wife was fine with it. We really enjoyed Budapest, thanks to John, Jeanne and Apartment Sarah!

Once again, John & Jeanne have shown their commitment to their clients. Four friends rented Sarah & Belle for 2 weeks and our experience with both the apartment and the city of Budapest was outstanding. We had stayed in Max in 2010 and this time wanted a bit more privacy, so we booked Sarah & Belle. There was more than enough room for everyone. Although the sleeping loft in Sarah was a bit cramped, the challenge soon turned to fun as you leapt from staircase to bed. All the amenities were at hand. The location is outstanding - just around the corner from Vaci Utca and it's pedestrian streets. Budapest is a beautiful city, entrenched in history. The spirit of the people only emphasizes it's march toward rebuilding and refurbishing gorgeous buildings. It's a walking city and the location of John & Jeannes' apartments is perfect for exploring. Nothing is too far away. We've now stayed in 3 of these apartments and looking forward to experiencing a 4th. We have chosen apartment rentals over hotels for years now and must admit, John's apartments are, by far, the best we have ever stayed in. Their concern for our well-being and comfort supercedes anything we've experienced. There are so many nice "touches" that come with this rental...pastries and wine on arrival...stocked fridge so you don't have to shop right away....ease of transportation to and from the airport. It all adds up to a most welcome arrival in Budapest. Thanks John & Jeanne. We will be back soon.

Cosy, Comfortable, Convenient Apartments

Date of Stay: 08/12/11 Review Submitted: 09/19/11

For our week's stay in Budapest, my family and I rented two apartments, Belle and Liesel. They are beautiful apartments which (along with Sarah) can be connected, to form one, large, apartment (as we did), or they can be used separately. We were delighted with our apartments: they were clean, in a great location with excellent security features, and wonderfully compact. The owner, John, has managed to create a very homely environment, while creatively using the space. Each apartment is unique in character; Liesel has a large, bright sitting area with a separate bedroom, whilst Belle is overall smaller, but has a beautiful gallery bedroom, which is quite spacious in itself. John had thoughtfully provided everything from towels and toiletries to a local mobile phone and free international line. Both apartments also had TVs and free internet, as well as a wide selection of DVDs and books. We were very happy and comfortable staying there. The building where Liesel and Belle are located is at the heart of the city and we were able to walk everywhere: the Chain Bridge and Castle area are close by, as are the opera house, the parliament buildings and a number of baths. There are also plenty of dining options for all tastes and prices in the area. John and his manager, Ilona, were extremely helpful and considerate: all our questions were answered promptly and in detail - we really didn't have to think about much except what to do that day; they removed all the stress of holidaying in an unfamiliar country. We would definitely be looking to stay in one of John's apartments if we find ourselves in Budapest again, we so thoroughly enjoyed the ambiance and location of Liesel and Belle. They are wonderful, comfortable, safe apartments - you will not regret staying there!

Fantastic Find

My husband and I recently spent 23 nights in "Sarah" (one-half of the apartment described above) and found near perfection. The apartment is perfectly located (we walked all over the city and never took public transit). Despite being central, we never once were bothered by any noise. The apt. was spotless (a cleaning service, which is mandatory, comes weekly for an extra fee and they did such an excellent job we wanted to bring them home with us!) The property is beautifully restored and furnished with everything you could ever imagine needing. The owners are terrific landlords -- the first few days we had some equipment problems that were immediately dealt with. Everything was labeled with detailed instructions. Upon our arrival there was wine, bread, cheese, milk, coffee and other small snacks to get us started on our stay. The apt. washer and dryer were a huge bonus! There is one drawback to this property -- and it is not an insignificant one. While it is advertised as a one-bedroom apartment, it might better be described as a one bed apartment. The bed is situated in a tiny loft with support beams less than 4 ft. from the floor, and the bed itself is only 10 inches from the top stair. There is absolutely no room for anything, including luggage, which we had to store in the livingroom, which is also where we had to dress. Still, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would go back in a heartbeat. The owners' exhaustive information about the neighborhood and city are exceedingly helpful -- and almost without exception every restaurant recommendation was very good. The food, wine and coffee in Budapest are some of the best we've ever had -- we particularly enjoyed Onyx, Hungary's only Michelin-starred restaurant, which is the place to go if you want to splurge! A couple of must-see towns, if you have the time, are Szentendre and Estergom. Train service, both domestic and international, in and out of B. is excellent. The station is 10 minutes from the apt.Tip: If you want to go inside Parliament, buy your tickets in advance. Going to Budapest? "Sarah" is the only place to stay!

My family and I (husband and two sons 17 & 14) rented both apartment Sarah and Belle for a week in July. We have rented homes all over the world and nowhere else will you find an owner so devoted to the comfort and enjoyment of his guests! The apartments are well stocked with everything you need to enjoy your stay. There are all the basics you would expect and then there is more! I can't detail everything but here is what stood out for me. In the foyers were umbrellas and rain ponchos and a bag with towels for the baths. In the bathrooms you will find new toothbrushes and other toiletries in case you forgot something! Other things we loved were the air conditioning, the wireless internet and the computers in case you did not have your laptop. Also the VOIP phone to call the US! There are notebooks in each apartment with all the information you could possibly need regarding all the electronics and how to use them. There are also notebooks on where to eat and what to do in Budapest and how to find the nearest grocery store. Seriously we have never stayed in a rental that provided so much information. As a matter of fact, when we left Budapest we traveled to Croatia where we rented a villa and there was NOTHING written down for us. We had to make several phone calls to the caretaker to figure the house out. The apartments are very clean and very comfortable. The space was great for our family. There are plenty of board games and books and movies for your downtime. Our boys slept in Sarah and my husband and I slept in Belle. It was great to have both apartments to spread out. The location of the apartments is perfect. We found the city very walkable just as John had promised. We used the subway and Trams only a few times but they were very easy to use. We used the driver that John had suggested to pick us up at the airport. He was there as we walked out of baggage claim. It was so nice to have someone waiting for us after nearly 20 hours of travel. We were met at the apartment by the caretaker, Ilona. She was very helpful in showing us all we needed to know in order to settle in. There were eggs, milk, and cheese in the fridges which was so nice. Plus there were some homemade treats and wine as well. We were exhausted when we arrived and were so grateful not to have to immediately grocery shop. John was so helpful during our planning phase. He knows Budapest very well and we felt we were in good hands as we made our trip arrangements. Highly recommend!

Our group of four rented both Sarah and Belle -- it was like being at home, with all the little conveniences that make it so. The apartment is extremely well located, and John and Jeanne go above and beyond in making sure that travellers have everything they could possibly need to enjoy the city to its fullest. All recommendations were on the mark. I can't imagine staying anywhere else. Hotels just don't cut it anymore!!

We had a wonderful time in Budapest where we thoroughly enjoyed this lovely apartment. The location is great and all the treats in the kitchen were very much appreciated..... a supplied kitchen made it feel like home. I found myself kicking back shots of espresso every morning, giving the boost I needed to make it to Gerloczy for breakfast. We were able to walk to most sights and thoroughly enjoyed the neighborhood restaurants. The place has all the creature comforts..... air conditioning, cable TV, Wi-Fi, washer/dryer, and free calls to the USA. We also had a very accommodating owner who was quick to answer our questions. I couldn't ask for more.

40th Birthday trip to Budapest

Date of Stay: 05/14/11 Review Submitted: 06/29/11

I hadn't been in Budapest since I was a student in 1991 and I really wanted to go back to celebrate my 40th birthday. My partner and I decided to tour Budapest, Vienna and Croatia, with Budapest as our first stop. I started randomly googling vacation apartment rentals and I hit the jackpot when I came across the Sarah apartment at budapestvacationrentals.com Based on the quality of the website, I had a good feeling about the place, but when the owner responded to me so rapidly and with so much wonderfully detailed information, I knew I had found the perfect place. I can't say enough great things about Sarah Apartment and the owners. Right as we arrived we felt immediately at home. There were so many wonderful amenitities in the apartment that one usually doesn't find in rental apartments...everything was so quaint, cozy and clean. Sarah apartment is very centrally located in Pest and the perfect home base while vacationing in Budapest. The owners were amazingly kind and caring and really took care of us during our stay. I would recommend this property 100 times over!

We, a family of five, reserved the two apartments (Sarah-Belle) for Easter holidays. It was an amazing stay which exceeded our expectations. John was really kind (he phoned from overseas to hear if all was fine) and his manager Ilona was very helpful and warm in showing us the apartments and their equipment. John's guides to Budapest (online and on paper) are really exhaustive and useful. The apartments are very cozy and appointed with attention to the smallest detail, with all sorts of outfits one would like. We would recommend this location to everyone going to visit Budapest. Thank you John, Jeanne, Ilona, Alajos (who found a taxi van for our transfers from and to the airport)!

Date of Stay: 04/13/11 Review Submitted: 04/29/11

Appreciated all of the extras for our 3 day stay in Budapest. We stayed in apartment Olive as Sarah and Belle were not available. All of the advice in the books that John spent a lot of time creating were SO helpful to us. We felt very safe - enjoyed the extra large shower which is unusual in Europe it seems. The apartment was perfect for my husband and I - plus the bed was dreamy. I don't know if it was the grey cold weather or the mattress but I slept better in Apartment Olive than I have in years. Great location - we loved Gerlozcy for coffee/lunch. The free phone calls to the US and the movies were a TOTAL bonus. Definitely recommend this place.

My wife and I are BIG VRBO users and have done some pretty serious traveling courtesy of the various owners who lend their little piece of the world to vagabonds such as us. After what may be the most promptly answered e-mail exchange I have ever experienced with this site, we booked 3 nights with John at his little studio Sarah in the heart of Budapest. The flat is perfectly located and we arrived to an excellent assortment of coffees, eggs, cheese, deli meats, and wine as compliments. Less than 10 minutes walk from virtually all the sites you would want to see (maybe 15 to the palace), and VERY secure we highly recommend a stay here. If we ever return to Budapest, which we hope to, I know where we'll be lodging!

Exceptional apartment in the heart of Budapest- helpful owner and a great welcome- will rent again!!

Date of Stay: 11/25/10 Review Submitted: 12/06/10

Our family of five rented the adjoining fifth floor apartments-- Sarah and Belle-- during Novemmber 25-29, 2010 and had a wonderful stay during our Thanksgiving away from home. John Farago is a very helpful owner with tons of advice on how to enjoy Budapest and provided many more amenities that you would expect from any hotel. He even arranged for us to have a goose dinner at Cafe Bouchon (I'm sure he'll be happy to arrange this for any guest of the apartment). On arrival, the apartment manager welcomed us with pastries, wine, "Pick" salami, and cheese (and explained the system of keys :-). The apartments were clean and fully furnished with everything we needed (TV, WiFi, computer, Nespresso coffee, and much more), including two spa bags with towles that were perfect for our afternoon out at the Szechenyi thermal baths in the City park. Best of all, it was just a short walk to Váci Utca and the Vörösmarty tér where you can catch the M1 (yellow) metro to go up to the Opera house or Szechenyi furdo. It also a short walk to the Gerlóczy Cafe where we had great dinners, just as recommended by John. We also had a plus during Thanksgiving - - the Christmas fair that was going on in Vorosmarty ter - - we enjoyed lots of famous Wintertime snacks there, including langos and Kürt?s kalács (round cakes). I can't say enough about the apartment and, the next time we come to Budapest, we'll be sure to rent the apartment again (assuming it's available... considering how great a deal this is!!).

We had no idea that Sarah Belle and Budapest would be so wonderful!

Date of Stay: 09/02/10 Review Submitted: 09/30/10

Our son-in-law, daughter, and toddler granddaughter visited us recently in Germany. It was our intention to travel on towards the Ukraine and research family origins. We randomly chose Budapest as a mid-way stop between Germany and the Ukraine. After staying at the Sarah Belle apartments, Szervita ter 5, Zone 5 of downtown Budapest, however, we almost wished that our destination had solely been Budapest and not anywhere further East! At Sarah Belle, John Farago and has established an island of wonderful ease, quietude, and convenience in the heart of Budapest (between the Elisabeth and Chain Bridges). We had tons of room, enormous sense of security, tons of hot water in the bathroom, superb appliances available on premises (including washer, dryer, TV, Wi-Fi, etc.), and walking proximity to the sites and sounds of a beautiful, remarkable city. In the apartments, John has also printed and laminated indices of information that cover contingencies A-Z for eating, sightseeing, transportation, etc. As a host, he has thought of EVERYTHING. After but a few days, we felt as though we were residents of the neighborhood, rather than tourists passing through. I would heartily endorse the Sarah Belle apartments as THE place to stay in Budapest, even after staying at the Hotel Kempinski on our return trip from Kiev. Cost-wise, comfort-wise, convenience-wise, there's no comparison. Kosonom, John!

Personal Service in the Heart of Budapest

Guest: LouisLois (New York, NY)
Date of Stay: 07/25/10 Review Submitted: 10/01/10

(Note: This is a double apartment, but we stayed only in the BELLE half.) Apartment Belle was a wonderful introduction to Europe and the perfect place to get over jet lag and being in an unfamiliar country with a very strange language! The location is perfect, on a quiet street just a block or two from the central metro station, quaint cafes, and the Danube. Our host was meticulous, leaving detailed instructions about everything from the washing machine to the best place to get a goose dinner. There is a landline phone with an American number (something we didn;t appreciate fully until we traveled elsewhere in Europe) and a mobile phone for your use as well. The place was spotless and we were welcomed with an assortment of delicious pastries, which were much appreciated after 24 hours in transit! The place was as advertised and the host is EXTREMELY solicitous and always available by phone or email. His recommended taxi driver was lovely and his knowledge of the city (as conveyed in a packet of documents in the apartment) easily rivals any guidebook you might buy! The apartment (again, we were in just one half of the whole) is perfect for a couple or a family with smaller children. We have a tall teenager and a ten year old, and it was a bit snug for them on the foldout bed, but still comfortable. The bed is accessible only via loft stairs, so would not be appropriate for mobility-impaired folks. We would enthusiastically recommend BELLE to future Budapest visitors.

Pampered in Budapest

Guest: Gail and Jim (Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania USA)
Date of Stay: 07/17/10 Review Submitted: 08/18/10

We were continually struck by the lengths to which the owner went to encourage us to love Budapest as much as he obviously does. From the amenities of the apartment (which was exactly as described on the website) , the stocked refrigerator and a welcoming bottle of wine to the informative emails prior to our arrival regarding what to do, where to eat, what to see and how to get there, it was like being pampered by our own personal concierge. The apartment seemed to be central to everything. It was a block from the transportation hub at Deak Ferenc Ter, a block and a half from Vaci Utca (named the 7th best pedestrian street in the world) and a 5 minute walk from the open-air cafes along the Danube. We took the owner’s advice and let him arrange for our transportation from the airport. Our plane was three hours late – we were delighted to see our name on the sign being waved by our driver. In fact, we found all of the owner’s suggestions that we tried to be excellent. We rented adjoining apartments with our daughter and son-in-law. The arrangement worked wonderfully with as much or as little privacy as we desired. The furnishings were comfortable, the kitchen was well stocked, the shower was great and the air conditioning worked quite well even in the 90° plus temperatures we had while we were there. We loved Budapest. We found the public transportation to be very good and we took trolleys, buses and the subway. We also walked a lot. We spent an afternoon at the Zoo and had great fun at the Szecheny Baths. We visited museums and monuments, the Opera House, the Great Synagogue and Saint Istvan's Church. We ate Hungarian food (lots of paprika) but not goose liver (on almost every menu). We also drank a lot of Hungarian beer - it was very hot in Budapest in July. We have wonderful memories of our trip. My husband and I have discussed the fact that rarely have we felt as safe in a city as we did in Budapest. The people were very friendly and there was just so much to see and do. We rarely return to a city we have visited. There are simply too many places we haven't been as yet. Budapest might be the exception. We would absolutely stay at this apartment again and would recommend it to all our friends.

We couldn't ask for anything more, except for cooler summer weather. Boy, did we appreciate the air conditioners when the temp was in the 90s. From the start, John, the owner arranged for a van to pick us up at the airport, us being 5 people with significant amount of luggage. With 5 of us, we rented both connecting apartments so there was ample space. The apartments were tastefully decorated with the personal touch--the book written by John's father, guide books, fiction, movies, etc. It is like someone's home, definitely not a hotel. We never had time to watch movies as we were out all day, but it was great knowing they were there if we needed them. Do you know how lovely it is after a long flight, being up all night and weary, to arrive to an apt with the refrigerator stocked with milk, eggs, sliced meats and cheese, pastries, coffees? The location was excellent, convenient to everything, and around the corner from the ONLY cash machine that dealt with Euros. Ultra clean, with the most comfortable beds and couches. John made a wonderful website about Budapest that has more info than the guide books, with suggestions of things to do. Three other fabulous amenities: wireless, a phone to call the US without charges, N'espresso coffee makers. I needed to make emergency phone calls back home for business--it was so convenient to be able to use the phone and it saved me so much money. We brought 2 computers for work and to search out restaurants on Yelp.com. Wireless made that so easy. As mentioned, the weather was so hot that it was a relief to come back to the apt and make iced espresso drinks. Just a welcome treat. John tops my list for service oriented VRBO owners and the best location.

This was our first time in Budapest and first time renting apartments instead of staying in hotels. From the minute I inquired about them the owner John was extremely helpful and professional. The information and pictures listed were dead on. Upon arrival we were greeted at the door, shown how to use all of the amenities and taste tested the waiting snacks and wine. The units were impeccably clean and well maintained. The ability to do laundry and call back to the United States were wonderful. The location is perfect. We will definitely come back to them on future return trips to Budapest.

We are two families who rented both the Sarah & Belle apartments and stayed for 4 days. It was an incredible experience. Location & apartments were fantastic, but what made the stay exceptional was the level of customer service. John was incredibly helpful, providing written guidelines & instructions for everything from how to use the washing machine, wireless internet and public transportation system to where to eat, buy & find all services we would need in Budapest. The level of detail of instructions & guidance made it easy to navigate & truly enjoy the apartment & city! The apartment was also really well-appointed with everything a traveler could need. I have stayed at a lot of apartments throughout Europe & this was the most thoughtfully appointed one I have ever seen. Apartment manager and recommended taxi service were also very helpful. THANKS so much!!! We would definitely come again & recommend to any lucky traveler.

We were very lucky to find an apartment for our trip to Budapest. The apartment was very homey and comfortable, had a lot of personality, and far exceeded our expectations. The location is perfect! Everything is very close -- restaurants, shopping district, market etc. John, the homeowner is very hospitable and helpful. We had a bottle of wine, fresh pastry and breakfast grocery in the fridge waiting for us when we opened the door! It was a very nice touch. Also, John was very helpful and assisted us in finding a good deal on train tickets to Vienna (our next destination following Budapest) and his manager Ilona booked the trip for us ahead of time. It was a great help! Everything in the apartment is thought through, very comfortable and cozy. The bathroom is very clean and modern. The little espresso machine is a nice addition. We can't thank John enough for thinking through each detail which made our trip very enjoyable. We followed John’s recommendations for restaurants and they were excellent advice – delicious! A great place to stay! we will definitely recommend it!!

On our first trip to Budapest a friend recommended an apartment for our 11-day stay. It was located centrally and that was what we wanted: we were there to see the sights from a convenient base. The welcome to the Belle was warm: a bottle of Hungarian red, milk, bread, butter and a platter of mouth-watering pastries awaited us. As well, ample couches allowed us to relax and enjoy a selection of English-language movies made in Budapest. The telephone provided world-wide calls at no cost. The wireless service meant I could use my personal laptop or the apartment’s computer. We prefer to live in, rather than visit, a city. And so the kitchen was important to us. We are not ones who eat at different restaurants each night (and there were plenty within a ten-minute walk). No, we enjoy preparing our own meals, when and how we like, and if we like. We attempt dishes using fresh local ingredients. Yes, we like to cook, but we like to cook well. The kitchen, with a refrigerator, stove and microwave gave us the freedom to prepare those meals. The incredible coffee machine allowed us to enjoy whatever we desired: from decaffeinated to cappuccinos. We soon realized how central we were: a wine store, a gourmet food shop, the pedestrian Vaci utja, the Danube River all but 5 minutes from our door; Deak ter, where all 3 Metro lines converge was very close; and the Grand Market was a stroll away: a stroll often interrupted by the coffee house Alibi that would distract and entice us to spend a leisurely hour with its beverages and outrageously sumptuous desserts.Belle is a modern, spacious abode with new hardwood floors that glisten from the sun’s rays beaming in through the many large skylights. The bright bathroom and a large loft bedroom seemed custom made for us.A washing machine and dryer were provided. There was ample storage space and an array of utensils, dishes and glassware to satisfy any epicurean whim. It was our home away from home.

We had an awesome time in a great city staying in fabulous apartments. From the arranged airport pick-up, to the neighborhood location, to the wonderful amenities; we loved it all. The owner was easy to communicate with and arranged to help us plan our trip. The apartments were well equipped and located in a great building on the top floor. We enjoyed the complimentary food awaiting our arrival and made good use of the guidebooks and maps. There were also laminated directions and explanations of all the amenities (wi-fi, cable, coffee maker, washer/dryer,etc.) to help answer questions. Apartment Sarah and Belle are a huge part of our memorable Budapest trip. Having stayed in many apartments on vacation throughout Europe, I would say these two connected apartments are among the best. I look forward to returning to Budapest with my family and staying here again!

Not enough praise can be heaped upon the Sarah/Belle apartments. They are homely, warm, charming, modern, cosy, safe, quiet and kitted with all your needs e.g. wifi, mac, movies & book libraries.....and to top it off , a welcome treat of some of the most delicious pastries that you are ever likely to taste (also to mention the complimentary wine and fridge contents). John provided us with a treasure of information on Budapest, which included a comprehensive guide to restaurants and cafes in the area. I must emphasis that John's guides are essential reading; interesting and witty;as are many of the books you will find in the apartments. Have a brows through some of the books and wonder at the compelling stories concerning John's father, Ladislas; and their family's history with the New York cafe (sadly, this cafe has been renovated without any hint of taste) The location of the apartments can't be beat, a short walking distance from just about everything you will want to see in Budapest. A minute walk from the immensely beautiful (though somewhat overpriced and touristy) Christmas market; another couple of blocks and you meet the Danube. It was a fantastic stay in a wonderful city and the the most wonderful of apartments. I look forward to my return

We stayed in Sarah for 1 week to allow us to tour Budapest. The apartment is ideally situated and thoughtfully furnished with everything you need for a week's stay. We particularly appreciated the basic provisions on arrival and also the warm welcome from Ilona. The taxi service suggested by John was excellent for both pickup and drop off and we certainly were glad that he was there at the train station to meet us. The one challenge for Sarah is the loft style bedroom which isn't ideal for very tall people. (6'4+).

These apartments are some of the most incredible places we've ever stayed! We rented the apartment Sarah in Budapest for four nights and then the apartment Andrei from the owner, John Farago because of the good reviews. They were beyond our expections. They are centrally located, well-appointed and more comfortable than any hotel. John is a hands-on renter, getting all the details of your arrival and departure, likes and dislikes and even arranging for his competent cab driver to meet you at the airport. His driver waited a long time for us because our flight was late and the airline lost my bag but he was friendly and courteous without a hint of impatience. Then John's apartment manger, Ilona, had to wait a long time at the apartment for us to arrive but she was just as gracious and helpful. She had stocked the refrigerator with breakfast foods and milk, a huge tray of incredible pastries and John had left us a fine bottle of wine. His apartments are stocked with travel books, maps, and details of everything about budapest and his apartment, down to how to use the washing machine and fantastic espresso maker. They even left tickets for the metro system and John called before we left the U-S and offered us tickets to the sumphony which he couldn't use. You have the use of a cellular phone and free international calling, incoming and outgoing, plus a computer and free internet. John even called several times during our stay to see if we needed anything! And so did his apartment manager, Illona. I could go on and on about our perfect stay, but I will conclude by saying he's the best temporary landlord I've ever had. I only wished John rented out apartments in other cities around the world.

Our plane was delayed and we arrived very late at the airport (1:30AM). We were met by a driver recommended by John and Jeanne, the apartment's owners. He greeted us warmly and brought us to the beautiful Apartment Sarah, where we were greeted with a bottle of wine, some pasties and a refrigerator stocked with breakfast foods. It was 2:30AM, we were terribly jet-lagged, but we knew we were home! The sparkling-clean apartment had plenty of room for the two of us - mother and daughter, both of whom need space and privacy. It also has air- conditioning, great windows with views and cross- ventilation. My daughter slept in the loft while I slept on the amazingly comfortable full (or queen-size) bed that is created by pulling out a drawer from under the couch (this is great....I want to buy one for my house, too). Other things I want to buy include the fabulous N'espresso coffee-maker and the milk frother/foamer. We had great coffee! The kitchen is adorable. Everything's there for serious cooking, too. We'd considered taking a market tour with John and Jeanne's friend and author, Carolyn Banfalvi, and then cooking up our goodies, Hungarian-style but we ran out of time. The apartment was well-located, although both my daughter and I are directionally-challenged and never quite figured out which way to turn when we left the apartment. No matter. Nothing was very far. And, when we did get a bit dis- oriented, we strayed into lovely places. The owners had left little map cheat-sheets by the door for us, so we could place them in our pockets and always find our way back home. I'm sure those cheat-sheets work for most people but I've gotten lost in Brainerd, MN (pop. about 223). Some suggestions: The apartment has wi-fi and it's great. It also has a Mac mini, which was hard for me to use. When I return (and I will), I'll tote along my own laptop and, perhaps, cell phone. I'm going back! I loved my new home in Budapest.

This was our first experience with a rental apartment. I don't know how anything could top it. The owner provided information in great detail before we travelled which made our visit most enjoyable. We stayed in Belle which was delightful--very accessible, great location and very clean and well appointed. We never used mass transportation and saw everything! Having the internet and international phone were a real bonus. Being met at the airport by Aljois and greeted by Ilona (the manager) made us feel right at home. When looking for apartments on the vacation rental website I was drawn to this one because of the US connection. Communication was a breeze. We would return tomorrow!

our stay at the apartments belle and sarah was probably the best time we ever had in budapest. the location could not have been better. we rarely had to use public transportation because almost everything we needed was in walking distance. the apartments themselves are very charming and well stocked--everything you need is there (umbrellas, blow dryer, chess). the nespresso machine was a godsend. we had a group of seven and it was the perfect size for us (one more person could have fit well). my only caveat is that the place is so cozy and cute that you won't want to get out and see the city. one of the best parts of our trip was lounging around in the morning, eating a leisurely breakfast. i can't wait to go back. and yes, the beds were comfortable.

The Sarah apartment was absolutely fantastic. I recommmend this for anyone who is staying in Budapest. The apartment is well appointed, clean and centrally located. In fact, the location could not be better, there is no need for cabs as everything is within walking distance or the train station is 1 block away. I wouldn't consider staying anywhere else in Budapest!

What an incredible place to stay in Budapest! We stayed in Apartment Sarah, which is a beautifully renovated flat in the one of the nicest - and most convenient - neighborhoods in the city. The apartment had every amenity we needed, and the information provided by John was thorough and very, very useful. I'd say that having such a great base from which we could explore the city really made our trip what it was. My only hesitation when it comes to recommending this place to others is that I fear the apartment won't be available next time we go to Hungary!

Just a note to say how much we totally loved staying in Sarah along with our travel friends who occupied Belle. We wanted for nothing our entire six day stay. John & Jeanne are the absolute best when it comes to anticipating someone's needs when staying in Budapest. We loved the building and the surrounding neighborhood and getting all four of us into the elevator provided many laughs especially when returning from a late diner with drinks. We are already planning our next trip to Budapest to visit family and hope that one of the 3 apartments will be available for our stay. Its not exactly home but pretty darn close, thanks again for all you did to make our stay so comfortable

We are ending ten days in Budapest exhausted from the cold and excitement that surrounds this world class city. John and Jeanne are unparalleled hosts - as hosts they almost provide the service of a B & B based on the first welcoming call from them in Paris! We recommend you thoroughly read John's website - there is no greater guide to Budapest. Each traveller has their own objectives - but on a museum note: Applied Arts - beautiful but sparse collection; the Ludwig equals the Tate in London. Food - go with John's recommendations. he knows food. Around the corner is the Amstel River Cafe - good for late arrivals. Food is cooked fresh and wine/beer on tap is pretty good. Read the tour books here. We plan on returning soon with friends, confident our stay will exceed the comfort and welcome this one provided. There is no one like John. He is a true New Yorker. We are always available for questions.

Budapest is much friendlier than Prague. We had a great bus tour today and the guide was an elderly lady who was very sweet and accommodating. We felt the people of Hungary are open and accepting. We went to several shops and they gave great service and were very helpful. Your apt is over the top. Nice taste. Good interior design.

It has been an absolute pleasure staying in your comfortable and well- situated apt Sarah - our home for 5 nights - and also having the opportunity of dealing with you in all of the planning for our first trip to Budapest. Enjoyed an organ concert at St. Anne's church and saw a wonderful performance of the ballet Giselle at the jewel box of an opera house. The primary joy of our first visit to Budapest, besides this great apt. and the Szechenyi Baths, is just waling and admiring all of the incredible architectural detail - really lovely. One final word on the apt - if anyone is trepidacious about sleeping on the sofa bed they should not be! It is wonderfully firm and comfortable and easy to set up. Also loved the espresso machine, and the 2 bathroom basins, and the mobile phone. the washing machine also came in handy.

Too many thank yous to count - you made the final days of our honeymoon truly special. From having a driver pick us up at the train station after a terribly long and hot train ride - to having a working washer and dryer to wash our well-travelled clothes. Your recommendations were priceless. Better than any guidebook! Some of the highlights - sitting at the fountain on Margaret Island. The memorial of shoes representing those who were shot into the Danube during the Holocaust. Very powerful. Friday night services at the Dohany Synagogue. Even if you are not Jewish a very moving experience. Our countless meals at Gerloczy and Cafe Bouchon. The goulash at Bouchon is a must! Relaxing in the apt. drinking espresso and playing Uno. THANK YOU! We will recommend your home to everyone we meet.
