Better Than Recoleta and Palermo, Grand Apt on Gelly Y Obes St
- Minimum stay:4-5 nights
- Internet:Yes
- Pets allowed:No
- Wheel chair accessible:No
For most foreign visitors, Recoleta and Palermo are the top residential neighborhood choices in Buenos Aires. The best-kept secret is that just between them lies La Isla (The Island), an exquisite, small hill surrounded not by water but by parks and grand staircases that keep major traffic at bay.
Gelly y Obes, just two blocks in length, is the main street of La Isla, the address of the mansion of the British Ambassador and that of the most aristocratic and private Argentines. During your visit to Buenos Aires, you will have the chance to stay in La Isla, at a fantastic 140 square meter NON-SMOKING apartment comfortably appointed for four or five guests with great living room/dining room, study, three bedrooms, three bathrooms, wireless Internet, phone land line and a complementary cell phone to keep in touch with your travel companions.
You will be at walking distance from Recoleta, with it's restaurants, cabarets, multiplex, artisan street fairs, and cultural center. You will also be at three blocks from the Museo de Bellas Artes and two from the National Public Library. But you will be above it all, in a capsule of comfort and peace, that you can leave only when you are ready for noise and excitement.

Truly a lovely, spacious apartment we enjoyed coming back to each day. Ingenious design means you can close various doors of the apartment so that people can still be lively in the living or dining room and others can still be sleeping in the bedrooms. Each bedroom is also quite separated from the others as well. The light is more ample in the living room and bedroom than they appear in the photos - and in the evening, there are plenty of light sources which brighten the main rooms. Nice and quiet for a city apartment, with persianas which darken rooms for a deep sleep, and many shops, cafes and bars are close by as well as some gorgeous sites. Many thanks to Maria and the owners.Recommended for: Tourists without a car, sightseeing, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with young children.
Owner response: Thank you Suzie and Nicolas. It was a pleasure to host you. Carlos, Alex and María.

After three weeks of rather arduous travel in Chile and Argentina’s Patagonia region, this apartment was the perfect respite for four adults. It is just as the owner described and enough space for four to each find a private corner for reading or catching up on emails. We prepared dinner in the apartment several nights during our week long stay and found the kitchen to be well equipped and several mercados nearby from which to select fresh food. Buenos Aires is a vibrant city with traffic congestion and considerable street noise. The apartment is on a quiet secure street and only a block away are ATMs and ample taxi service. An excellent choice and we will book it when we return to BuenosAires, one week is not enough to experience this wonderful city. We would highly recommend this apartment to friends and family.Recommended for: Sightseeing, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway.
Owner response: Thank you for your kind comments. It will be a pleasure to host you back. Carlos and Alex

We three adults rented the apartment for two weeks. This is a tastefully decorated, large and airy apartment. It is on a very desirable street, ideally located, a few blocks from Recoleta Cemetary and the Fine Arts Museum. The building is relatively new with a door attendant, elevator and is well-maintained. The apartment is in top notch condition and is managed efficiently by an agent in BA who arranges for the weekly, no-charge maid service, calls taxi services and helps out in any way needed. In summary, we thoroughly enjoyed staying in the apartment and it enhanced our sojourn in Buenos Aires..Recommended for: Tourists without a car, sightseeing, families with teenagers, people with disabilities, age 55+, adventure seekers, families with young children, girls getaway.

First of all, this review is well overdue. We initially had planned to stay in one of the owners' other apartment, but there was a slight issue and they graciously offered up this apartment as an alternative. This was our first apartment rental and were a little hesitant, but the owner was incredibly easy to work with and very responsive. The condo exceeded our expectations. It was incredibly quiet, immaculate, luxurious, and in a perfect location. They have ample amounts of reference information for you on hand, e.g. personal restaurant reviews, shopping suggestions, etc. This was extremely helpful as we didn't always have enough energy at the end of the day(s) to do our own research! I can honestly say we could not have asked for anything more. Thank you for making our stay in Buenos Aires such a fantastic one!Owner response: Thank you for your kind remarks. It's always a pleasure to contribute to make someone's visit to Buenos Aires an unforgettable experience. Carlos.

My family stayed in this well-appointed and maintained apartment while we attended a wedding and did touring of the city and area. Very comfortable and centrally located. Laundry and wi-fi were great. The description on VRBO was accurate. The owner was very helpful and Maria the local agent was outstanding in getting us organized and responding to requests. We would rent again.Recommended for: Tourists without a car, sightseeing, families with teenagers, age 55+, families with young children.
Owner response: Thank you Gerald for you kind words.

After 8 days in a kayak in Patagonia I needed a dose of the big city and a spacious apartment. I was not dissapointed by either B.A. or this fabulous apartment. Everything is better than depicted. Maria the manager is awesome! All your answers are had with a quick phone call to her. Everything you need is less than 5 blocks away. You can walk easily to the Cemetary (Don't miss it!)Tons of restaurants, shops, bars, pharmacies, internet cafes (Locotarios)and a huge grocery store. I ate at the apt more than out, it was so relaxing and the kitchen is great. The apartment is amazingly quiet for being smack dab in the center of all the best of B.A. It is a beautiful neighborhood and very safe. Thank you Carlos and Maria...I will be back.Owner response: Dear Phillip, It was a pleasure to host you. Thank you for taking the time to write this comment. We'd love to have you back. We have special treats for returning guests. :-) Carlos

Recibe un cordial saludo, Antonio y Kalicha SánchezDid you find this review helpful? Owner info
Year Purchased: 2007
About the owner: I am a film producer with properties in the Caribbean, New York, and Buenos Aires.
Why the Owner Chose Recoleta:
I was thinking about making a real estate investment, but was undecided. When I saw this apartment, I fell in love with it. It is extremely spacious, has a wonderful balcony on a very quiet cobble street, it is so centrally located yet in an exclusive area of the city... I just couldn't let the opportunity escape.
The Unique Benefits at this Condo:
I love how quiet and comfortable the place is. It is really my home away from home.
