Welcome to our family owned and operated vacation apartment, located in the center of Asssi, a town famed for its ancient atmosphere. Apartment San Rufino is on the third floor of our family's historic palazzo overlooking the piazza, directly across from the beautiful Romanesque facade of cathedral San Rufino. For generations this has been the home of members of the Minciotti family. After years of use as a home for extended family, part of it is now available to people who want to experience the unique life style of living in a historically revered medieval city in the Umbrian hills. In a community rich in history, art, spiritual importance and surrounding natural beauty, our guests tell us they appreciate the sense of coming home to Palazzo Minciotti.
To stay here is to know the difference between visiting a place and truly experiencing it. Conveniently located close to the main square, you have ready access to the restaurants, cafes and shops, and the daily rhythm of life in Assisi. After you take in all the sights, you can wander through the small, charming back streets away from the crowds. Returning to the privacy of your apartment, you can savor the day and reflect on the sights and sounds of your day in Assisi.
Apartment San Rufino is ideally situated to take it all in. Being on the top floor affords spectacular views of Assisi. From the Cathedral and piazza directly below to the expanse of valley surrounding nearby town of Santa Maria degli Angeli, you can watch the play of light as the sun makes its way across the landscape. From your windows, you'll have the opportunity to witness the particular glow of Assisi at sunset, as the light reflects off of its pink-hued stone and tiled roofs, an experience that is truly an integral part of the spirit of our beloved town.
This spacious, comfortable apartment (about 120 sq. meters/1300 sq. ft.) has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms making it ideal for families or groups of young people traveling together. It can accomodate up to 9 people, making it an economical choice as well. It is filled with special touches of art and family keepsakes, along with many modern conveniences. In the well-equipped kitchen, you can prepare your own meals, or alternatively, we can recommend local restaurants and pizzerias, many available at reduced rates with the AssisiCard which you will receive on arrival.
You might prefer to unwind in our large walled "secret" garden. There are multiple hidden paths leading to different levels giving you an opportunity to enjoy some quiet time alone. There are several tables and a large outdoor kitchen if you prefer to dine outdoors, or just to gather with friends and family to enjoy the local wines and the amazing views of Mount Subasio and the Rocca Maggiore (the medieval fortress above the city). The multi-tiered garden is a beautiful and comfortable oasis hidden in the heart of the city and is for the exclusive use of our guests. As the palazzo's co-owner, for me (Anna Maria), it is a labor of love and with my background as an agronomist, I have turned the garden into a sanctuary. In the spring it is a profusion of color. In the summer the covered pergola provides a cool, shady spot and for added enjoyment there is an area with a small wading pool. Autumn brings out the deep reds and oranges of the changing vines. The garden is filled with plants and rose bushes that create a timeless aura of old-fashioned scents, the colors of long ago, and most importantly, a true sense of peace and spirituality.
As lovers of art and beauty, we have tried to recreate inside the apartment and in the garden, the same atmosphere of peace and beauty that one finds in our small hilltop city. This is the "genius loci" of Assisi, Latin for the unique spirit of a place, the intangible things that make a place special. It is one of the reasons that we are often sought out by authors, artists and others doing long term research or creative projects. We would love to share it with you.
If you are traveling without a car you are just 10 minutes from the train station by bus or taxi. Assisi is perfect for travelers without a car because much of it is laid out for access to pedestrians only. If you have a car we can provide you with further information about parking when you make your reservation with us.

- Air Conditioning: Natural Air Conditioning. You will be most comfortable at Palazzo Minciotti, whenver you stay with us! Our apartments remain cool even in the summer heat thanks to the 14th-century walls of our home. We too live in the building and have no need for air-conditioning in our own home. Just do as we Italians do: Close the window shutters in the morning, keeping out the heat. Open up the windows in the evening to enjoy the evening breeezes.
