With an artist’s touch, a keen eye for detail from the painted vines on the front door step to the antique headboard and gardens to make you swoon, this guest house is, without a doubt, the best in the West. Watching the hummingbirds, well stocked book shelves, a wide-range selection of DVDs, peace and quiet and the view of the Ute mountain range will make your last day at this guest house yearn for an extended stay. The Brunk Guest House is simply exceptional. Thank you for a remarkable visit! Sandy and Jeff, Loveland, CO
Owner response:Thank you so much Sandy and Jeff for your lovely review! We work each year to tweak the gardens and increase bloom and this year has been excellent. As an avid reader, I'm always looking for new books to enjoy and then add to the guest house collection. We hope to see you again in the future!

My husband and I have stayed in the Cortez area several times before at other VRBOs and at local hotels. This one, however, is by far the best the area has to offer! In fact, in my experience across the U.S., I would rank it as my all-time favorite. The home is beautiful and perfectly appointed. The bed is comfortable (that's a rarity!), and the courtyard is a peaceful haven. In addition, the owner, Becky, has a gift for hostessing that would make Martha Stewart jealous. In summary, our stay exceeded any reasonable expectation in may ways and we highly recommend the Brunk Guest House.

We just returned from a week at the wonderful cottage. What a surprise! If you are looking for a well located place to tour the southwest part of CO. this is the place. Great hosts, quiet, private, all of everything you would expect from an upscale cottage without the upscale cost. Super clean, quality bedding, great kitchen area plus the views! Great alternative to camping at Mesa Verde yet close enough to see the history of the area. If you are going to stay someplace, stay here!!!

This is a great little guest house, perfect for couples or a family of three! The twin bed for a third guest goes in the main room, but fits back in a corner so it can be left up during the day without interfering with the dining table or couch. The house is nicely outfitted with everything you could possibly need in the kitchen and bathroom (a step above many vacation rentals), plus there was a huge selection of DVDs, books and a washer/dryer unit. Hummingbirds and hummingbird moths visited the bushes outside the living room at dusk. We also enjoyed watching them at breakfast, as they visit a feeder you can see from the window above the dining table! The guest house is in a wonderful location for day hikes and exploring the national park sites -- we spent the first day in the area at Mesa Verde, then visited Four Corners, Hovenweep, Canyons of the Ancients and a local winery the next day.

My husband and I just returned from a two week stay at the Brunk Guest House. It was our second vacation in that beautiful cottage and we have already made reservations for another two weeks next year. The property is very clean, well decorated and in perfect working order. In addition, there is so much to do in the area. Lots of archaeological sites up on Mesa Verde, beautiful hiking, and drives up to Telluride and Ouray kept us as busy as we wanted to be. Lots of relaxing, also. The patios in front and in back of the property were perfect of sitting and enjoying a book, the sunset or the hummingbirds (which are all over the place). It is great fun. Can't wait until next September.

This lovely little guesthouse was beyond all our expectations! The Brunks have thought of everything, from Becky's homemade jellies, to the wonderful book and DVD collection, to information on area activities and more. The cottage is so comfortable and well-appointed that you won't want to go anywhere else, but the best part is coming back to a glass of wine (or in my husband's case, a beer), to watch the beautiful sunset and the hummingbirds that inhabit the gardens. We came to visit Mesa Verde and do some hiking, but there is so much more to do in the Four Corners area we will definitely return for a follow-up visit.

This month we stayed in this beautiful cottage. It was superb. Quiet location, very friendly lady helping us in all our needs. Garden so lovely, so many flowers, hummingbirds flying around the house, deers coming sometimes in the garden, beautiful sunsets............ it was a pity we could stay few nights !!!! The inside cottage ....better than my home in Italy. Yes, we were the first italian guests.Very useful to have washing and drying machine for us staying away so many days from Italy. 10 minutes from town and shops. 30 minutes from Mesa Verde entrance. I'd like to come back one day!!!
Owner response:We couldn't have asked for a nicer family to stay with us as our first Italian guests. Thank you for such a lovely review and we hope to see you again one day in the future!

We just spent 3 wonderful nights at the Brunk Guest Cottage and were overwhelmed by the beauty of the surroundings, the first class amenities, and the incredible thoughtfulness of the owners. The cottage is located in an area very convenient for sightseeing, yet it is difficult to pull yourself away from the cottage. Every window offers a view of the mountans, gardens, and beautiful blue skies. The linens were of the finest quality, the decor was warm and inviting, there were movies and books galore, lavender bath salts were provided for the deep soaking tub, even homemade jelly, fresh flowers from the gardens and eggs from the Brunk's chickens were awaiting us when we arrived. There were brochures, menus, and maps to assist us in planning our daily adventures. We stayed at the Four Seasons in Las Vegas, just the week before, and we would choose the Brunk Guest Cottage over the Four Seasons any day! Thank you Becky and Don for making our trip to Cortez so memorable.

What a beautiful (and clean) guest house and wonderful hosts! We stayed 3 nights and wished that we could have stayed longer! Becky and family were so friendly and helpful. As soon as I started talking to Becky on the phone about questions, information, etc., I felt as if I was talking to a friend! Everything is even more beautiful in person. We spent two full days in Mesa Verde and just loved it. I would recommend the Brunk Guest House with two thumbs up!!

I arrived tired and drained but left physically and spiritually energized! Meticulously maintained. It's hard to imagine this is a rental house as there were no signs of wear and tear. I am very sensitive to odors and was delighted that the entire house was neutral smelling (no freshener or cleaning fluid smells). The Brunks are willing to help with anything you want to know or may need but they thought of everything ahead of time so there was no need. It's in a beautiful location and you could spend your entire time strolling around the property or just relaxing but the beauty of the surrounding area beckons you to explore. I would love to come back for an extended stay this summer.

We met this nice couple in a restaurant a few months ago. They were sitting beside us and overheard our plans to visit the Four Corners area. They suggested we stay the Brunk Guest House near Cortez. They said -- “It’s great!”. After we booked the place -- based on the advice of strangers -- we began to have second thoughts. My wife and I are fussy. And quite often, in our experience, B&B’s and Guest Houses aren’t exactly “as advertised” on their websites. Our son is even fussier. He’s a “Ritz” kind of guy – at least when we’re paying! Well -- I’m happy to report that the strangers were right. The Brunk Guest House is great! It’s a quaint little cottage on the outside -- but on the inside it’s clean and comfortable and has all the modern conveniences (and everything works!). We should know. We stayed there during one of the worst snow storms in years so we spent a lot of time inside that cottage! The cottage is just a few miles south of Cortez – which is handy for shopping and restaurants. It’s also within easy striking distance of Mesa Verde and other attractions in the Four Corners area. The Brunk’s are also excellent hosts. They gave us lots of useful advice on what to see in the area – and where to eat. We even got some of Becky’s farm fresh eggs for breakfast! We would highly recommend staying at the Brunk Guest House if you’re planning to visit this area. And, yes, our fussy son loved it too!

This little guest house was exactly what I was looking for our vacation plans. My only regret was we didn't have more time to stay there. The house was well equipped (I was surprised to find a washer/dryer there, although we didn't have time to use it), the atmosphere was homey, the bed very comfortable, and the garden--oh, I loved that garden--was beautiful even for this time of year (October). Our vacation destination was Mesa Verde, and Mrs. Brunt provided us with information to rival the National Park Service. Thank you. Should I return to the Cortez area, you can bet the Brunt Guest House would be our first choice of places to stay. Janet E.

Becky and Don have created a charming guest house in a lovely setting, with picturesque views out of every window. Every detail seems to have been planned with the comfort and convenience of their guests in mind. Although we had action-packed days of hiking and sightseeing, we ended up cooking dinner "at home" all four nights because we enjoyed spending time there so much -- and the fresh eggs that Becky shared from their chickens made our breakfasts extra special. We appreciated the extensive and detailed info about local attractions, which was very helpful in planning our days, and Becky also offered some excellent suggestions as well. To anyone who is worried that having the owners live right there on the property might lead to some awkward moments, I'm happy to report that it's not an issue at all. They are super friendly and are happy to interact, but they leave you to yourself otherwise. The guest house is extremely clean and well maintained, and as at least one previous reviewer has noted, it's even nicer in person than the photos may suggest. It's clear that the owners have put a lot of thought and effort into making this a this very special place to stay, and our visit couldn't possibly have been any more enjoyable than it was.

My husband and I stayed at the Brunk guesthouse for two weeks, from September 16 until September 29, 2010 and found the cottage to be everything portrayed in the photos and written description....spotless and beautifully decorated. The location was great, with views of Mesa Verde in back and Sleeping Ute Mountain in front. We have been coming to Colorado for many years and this is by far the best place we have every stayed. We will be sure to be back.

The Brunk Guest House is by far the nicest vacation rental we have stayed at! The house is tastefully appointed and beatifully maintained, with a well stocked kitchen and high quality bedding -- two features that are important to us. We enjoyed the lush gardens and watching the hummingbirds each day, and particularly relished morning sun salutations on the front porch as the sun descended on the Sleeping Ute. Becky and Don have taken great care to ensure a special experience for their visitors. On our first evening there, Becky called to make sure we wouldn't miss the vivid double rainbow stretching of the Mesa. The cottage is ideally located to Mesa Verde National Park, but also afforded us day trips to Hovenweep, Arches National Park and Durango. Our only regret was that 5 days was not enough time to do/see everything! We will definitely be back.

The Brunk Guest House is a wonderful little cottage in a perfect location to travel to the many sites around Cortez, CO. We went to Mesa Verde, Hovenweep, Canyon DeChelle among other places. We got hair cuts and ice cream in Cortez and had a nice trip to the local park with the kids. The cottage was just the right size, we didn't trip over each other and all the amenities made for an easy stay. Becky was a wonderful hostess and we were sad that we didn't get to see Don while we were there. The grounds were beautiful, we saw amazing sun sets and the mountains surrounding us were truly awe inspiring. We had such a wonderful trip I have suggested the Brunk Guest House to several people already. Unfortunately it is a far distance from where I live or I would try to go there more often!

I was in town for business and stayed at the cottage upon a recomendation made to me by a previous guest. The cottage is just as described with great attention to detail in the decor and comfort of the guests. The owners, who are right next door, were very friendly and willing to give as much or little attention as you liked. Being winter, I especially enjoyed curling up next to the gas fireplace. I would recommend this rental to anyone I know going to the area.
Owner response:Our home is located just south of the guest house on our 34 acre property but the guest house has it's own driveway, private courtyard and entrance. We like for our guests to have whatever amount of contact they desire or need. They are welcome to roam the gardens and enjoy the canal walk behind our property and let us know if they have questions or need help with itineraries.

Becky and Don, What a beautiful place you have here - it's so hard for us to leave! The guest house is beautiful - like the scenery - so warm and inviting. Loved the decor and all the personal touches you've put in here from your travels (made it feel like home for us!) This is such a great location from which to explore the area - wish we'd had more time! Would highly recommend cross country skiing the Cliff Palace loop in Mesa Verde to your winter guests and then stop into the McElmo Canyon wineries! Of course, it was fabulous to come "home" to your wonderful book collection. We'll be back! Lauren and Chris

It's hard to add anything to the comments already on this site. Had we reviewed them earlier, we would have looked with greater anticipation to our stay, but instead, we felt that the "vacation" to NM would have to be tolerated in order to spend time with a new granddaughter, and we would have stayed in a cave to be with her, my son and daughter in law. Brunk Guest House could have been a destination all in itself. It was beautifully decorated in a tranquil setting, yet close to everything that a person would want to see and do, if that were the purpose for the trip. All of the preceding comments are true, if somewhat understated.

The Brunk Guest House was everything we had hoped to find - filled with creature comforts, quiet, beautiful surroundings and close to the national parks we wanted to explore. The owners, Becky and Don, thought of just about everything a person could want from the quiet enclosed patio garden to the cozy living area complete with fireplace. I would highly recommend this and we plan to stay again. The SW Colorado area is great for historical discoveries and also some great shopping. Coming back to the guest house each day after hiking and exploring felt like coming home. Their personalized guide to the area was very helpful and accurate. Wish we'd had more time there.....

Dates stayed: 9/26/09 to 10/06/09Highly Recommended! We have been home a little over a week, and are still rhapsodizing about our stay in Cortez! The Brunk Guest House is perfect for one or two people. There are lots of windows and the view from each is special (provide lots of photo ops, too). We sat in the garden several evenings, enjoying a glass of wine, music (we took an iPod with speakers), the hummingbirds and cats. We were only able to cook on the grill one evening, as either the winds were too strong or it was, wonder of wonders, raining. The Guest House is also perfect in its location. Just the right jumping-off point for Mesa Verde, Hovenweep, the Anasizi Heritage Center, Lowry Pueblo, Ute Mountain Tribal Park and Telluride. We enjoyed outings to each of these, and also went to the Salmon Museum in Bloomfield, met with a guide and toured the Chaco Canyon ruins. This was an overnight trip, but the Guest House was a welcome sight upon our return. The Brunks are wonderful hosts, providing information and assistance whenever needed. Cortez is a lovely town and all the people we met were also helpful and welcoming. We hope to spend more time in the Brunk Guest House – and we hope you do, too.

Planning our vacation closer to home this year but can't stop thinking about our short stay at the Brunk Guest House last year. It was perfect for our multi-day venturing at Mesa Verde N.P.. Friendly, helpful, knowledgable owners (nice dogs too). Cozy fit for four (2 adults and 2 teens), but the owners provided a cot and an extra sleeping bag and it worked out great. A very relaxed and welcome setting after hiking around all day. Very clean. No question that we would stay again (and no question about recommending it to others). Loved the jelly too!

This attractively designed little guest home provided all we needed for our trip to see Mesa Verde and the surrounding area attractions...plus lots of extras. It was tidy, neat, and very well maintained. The orientation of the guest home with the flowered courtyard permitted plenty of privacy. Coming back to the rental after a hot and tiring (but fun!) day seeing the ruins was peaceful, cool, and relaxing. This rental home is great for those who like to experience more space and local atmosphere than a hotel or motel.

We could not have been happier with our stay at the Brunk guesthouse. Becky and Don have thought of everything to make their guests feel welcome and taken care of, while still offering them as much privacy as they desire. The cozy cottage is beautifully decorated and the thoughtful touches, such as home made jam and a bookshelf full of reading materials, made us feel comfortable and pampered immediately. We loved the gorgeous views from every window, the locally made art objects, the secluded garden, the hummingbirds and the great movie collection. There is so much to see and do in this area, we only wish we could have stayed much longer. We are so grateful that the Brunks created such a lovely guest house to share with us.

Hi all, We stayed with Don & Becky Brunk in their Guest House for 4 nights in mid August 2008. Wow!!! What a great place! The highlight of our trip! The guest house is a fantastic location and is close to Cortez. It provides spacious, very well equipped and tastefully furnished accommodation. The Brunk's have thought of everything you could want for a superb stay and if its not there, then they are happy to help out. Becky's little extras are especially appreciated by the ladies and provide a really welcoming feel. We were fortunate enough to get to know the Brunk's a bit while we were there and they are a great couple who are interested in people but who also respect your privacy if you don't wish to "mix". Beautiful scenery and only minutes from all the best spots such as Mesa Verde (approx. 45minutes), 4 Corners Monument (approx. 20 minutes) etc but the guest house is a wonderful retreat which gives a degree of sanctuary by providing a very quiet and relaxing "home away from home" after a day on the tourist circuit. I could go on even more but suffice to say that I can't recommend this guest house highly enough. Great place and great people. Give it a try, I'm certain you won't be disappointed
Owner response:Just FYI - the entrance to Mesa Verde is a 20 - 25 min drive from the cottage. Then it takes another 20 minutes or so to get to the visitors center. Thought this might help. Becky

Accomodation was great, plenty of room, excellent facilities. Location for us was ideal to allow both visits to the desert and mountain regions of Colorado and Utah. Really enjoyed the personal touches by Becky and would recommend you pay a visit to this house.

My husband and I stayed here for three days on our last trip. The place is beautiful, comfortable and extremely well equipped. If you are doing some exploring in the southwest area this is a great place for home base.

My family and I had an absolutely wonderfuly stay at the Brunk Guest House. We all enjoyed all the 'extras' that are in the Guest House, like the brochures, list of restaraunts, farmers markets, etc. This made it very easy form my family to be able to plan out our day because we had a lot of information. All the instructions for the DVD player, remotes, what a great idea!! It is very well put together. I loved the convenience of a kitchen and washer and dryer. Our family took advantage of the DVD's that were there. I cannot express how nice the Brunk Guest House is and I have already mentioned it to all of my friends. I hope to soon be able to go back. ABSOLUTELY WONDERFUL.

What a wonderful place! We spent 6 days in this gem of a guest house and felt at home every single day. Don and Becky have provided everything (and more) that one could wish for. So comfortable and relaxing... great views... peaceful gardens... squadrons of hummingbirds... superb hosts... We have decided that the Brunk guest house is THE best place we could have chosen from which to base our daily adventures to Mesa Verde, Durango-Silverton R.R. (do the Zip Line at Soaring Tree Top Adventures if you possibly can - Awesome!!), the wineries in McElmo Canyon... so much to do and so little time. We have been home only 3 days and are already talking about our next trip to Cortez and the Brunk guest house - the most pleasant private place we have ever stayed. We just got back from a 10 day trip to NM and CO. We stayed in the Brunks guest house for 3 days. It is a hidden gem. Becky and Don are the perfect hosts. The guest house is wonderful with all amenities you could possibly need and then some. Arches National Park and Mesa Verde National Park are close by if you can tear yourself away from the guest house. It is the perfect spot to enjoy beautiful gardens, bird watching, hiking and fantastic scenery and sunsets from every door and window. I only wish we were closer so we could enjoy the guest house on a regular basis.
