Location: Laurito, Cilento & Vallo di Diano National Park, Campania, Italy, Europe (Province of Salerno; near Palinuro)

Accommodations:  Attached House, 5 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 5 Baths (Sleeps 12-14)

This unique property has recently been renovated to maintain the charm of a 13th century medieval village on the outside with the luxury of completely modern and sleek decor and high-tech technology inside. The property is located in the village of Laurito at about 475 meters above sea level. The village is a tenth century, walled, farming village with groves of olives, vineyards, and almost any fruit and vegetable that you can imagine. We are seeking mature, professional renters who respect property, culture and the local residents of this special village. We are not seeking the renter who needs the obvious high activity or pristine perfection of a luxury hotel. Small villages in southern Italy are quaint but off the beaten track. Some services do not function as smoothly or consistently as in other parts of Italy. Lights and gas are never a problem but cable and internet can be a bit more difficult. Sky Cable has been quite responsive but the wireless internet at the home has been less than even adquate. There is no "shopping" other than for food and drink. Palinuro, the closest beach, is 9.8 miles away. This rental is perfect for hikers and history enthusiasts that want to get away from the obvious destinations and relish in the unique and hidden parts of Italy. The area boasts several religious pilgrimages to higher elevations which offer hikers with a beautiful and challenging courses. Other courses include hikes to ancient ruins and excavations.

The property is located within a 15-minute drive to the shores of Palinuro on the Cilento Coast. The upper floors boast both a mountain and sea view. Gentle mountain breezes offer a relaxing alternative to a more coastal property. It is exactly 9.8 miles. Any busy executive would welcome the opportunity to refresh and renew at this property while maintaining a very low profile. It is also perfect for families who want to have a relaxing vacation and do not need the contrived entertainment value of large theme parks. Laurito is all about relaxing, refreshing, and renewing the mind and spirit. Surrounding villages offer interesting hiking, walking, and historic sightseeing. Dining opportunities offer phenomenal local cuisine and wine at a fraction of the costs in larger cities. The village of Laurito offers a safe place for your children to run and play. The local beaches are great for sun bathers and scuba or cave diving enthusiasts. You can boat, fish, kayak, swim, and snorkel. Take local excursions into the sea caves both above and underwater. The train station at Centola,Sapri,Vallo Scalo, Paulinuro for those guests who do not drive, services trips to Basilicata, Pestum, Pompeii, Napoli, Amalfi Coast Destinations, Roma, and Florence (Firenze). The owners have an extensive questionnaire and information packet that allows prospective guests to determine if this special and hidden location is a good match for their vacation plans.

We want you to be completely satisfied with your choice. We ask you to research the area well. It is a rewarding experience for those mature, educated travelers who want to experience real life in a real Southern Italian Village. Remember this is not a hotel, but a home. It is a new home on the inside. We are renting the accomodation, not TV service, not a beach temperture, not the beach, not the local restaurant service but the inside of the house. We will be very honest about the location but we cannot break preconceived notions that folks have about Italy or make Southern Italy into Northern Italy. If you are coming to watch TV, or DVD's, this is probably not going to meet your expectations. If you are not flexible, the area may not please. People here are relaxed. Things don't move as fast as they do in NYC. Southern Italy is not like Northern Italy. There are 2 restaurants in the town and 4 grocery stores. There are 3 bars that operate like coffee houses. The people are friendly and jovial.

However, if this is your first trip to Italy, you may want a more centrally located property. However, if you are seeking an experience of a lifetime that will be uniquely yours, this is the property for you. This is a working village and people will not stop for you because you are on vacation. Chickens will still crow, work on the streets will still happen. We have had one set of guests that requested a refund because there was only one restaurant in the town (actually 2), because the beach was too cold, because the grash was not pristinely cut and there were exactly 8 windows that were just removed from the house leaning against one wall on the side of the home. They had to clean the grill and the rain caused the grill drawers to fill with water. They said the beach, that you can see was not pretty enough. They complained because they could not get into the beach clubs because other people got there first in the morning. We learned a lot from this. If the barbeque gets wet, you have to empty the water. You may have to push reset on the water-heater after it has been off for awhile. You may have to turn the grill on and scrape off the char and debris. If three hangers are not enough for you, then bring a hanging bag with some extra. If you don't know how to work a dishwasher, stove, refrigerator, washer or dryer this is probably not the location for you. We do not have instructions on how to use the blender. We are looking for mature, low maintenance people that can have fun, love history, and understand that not all cultures are waiting for them to show up. There are a lot of folks that pick on everything when they find that they did not do their homework on a location before buying.

IF YOU ARE A SMALL PARTY and WISH SPECIAL RATES FOR LESS THAN THE WHOLE HOUSE, PLEASE CONTACT US. THE FIRST FLOOR IS ESSENTIALLY A PRIVATE APARTMENT TO ACCOMODATE from 2 person with a full featured kitchen. PLEASE CONTACT FOR RATES AND SPECIAL NEEDS.

The view up the mountain is lovely but this is not a manicured garden at a hotel.
