Hi Mark & Kathy, We were vacationing in your lovely home from 7/5 to 7/12/08. “Fun in the Sun” was perfect for us. Your home has it all… It had some much space and decks for us to enjoy. It's quiet, clean, and just a very short distance to the beach; and still only four homes away from the Community Rec Center. The walk down Schooner Ridge drive left us right in the heart of the town of Duck right across the street from the new Duck Park and its soundside Boardwalk. You thought of nearly everything. Your pool, hot tub, “super” decks and Tiki bar are terrific. The screened-in porch on the third floor provided us our late-night refuge while the kids swim in the pool below. The sea breeze and the night stars were so incredibly relaxing. We have always booked our family vacation Corolla.... Never again!!! We are now Duck (and Schooner Ridge) converts and love vacationing at Fun in the Sun" best of all! Perhaps we'll be lucky enough to be back together again next year for some more “Fun in the Sun” nest year. Thank you so much for everything this was the best vacation ever!. What a great place to stay. This was our fourth summer vacation at this house that included two other families for a total of 11 people and sometimes more. So much room that at times you have to actually look for someone. Every room has their own bath, tv and closet space. The family room has enough room for the entire household to gather and unwind after a day at the beach and sit at the dinner table. For larger crowds there is the smaller dinner table for an additional 6 people. Then still one more table for an additional 4. The kitchen is large enough for several cooks to work. Then there is the ice machine on the top floor that never seems to run out. Down on the ground floor there is another family room with the video games, refrigerator and microwave and yet another bottomless ice machine that was great for loading up the cooler before walking down to the beach. Out by the pool there is the 3rd refrigerator that comes in handy for the beverages at the bar and for the foods that need to stay chilled while the grills get fired up. Whenever we returned from the beach, using the outdoor showers provided a great way to clean up before either jumping in the pool or using the hot tub. The proximity to the clubhouse that has both indoor and outdoor pools, tennis courts and gym is another huge plus. Across the street from the neighborhood is the farmers market and a fresh seafood store for the catch of the day that we included with every dinner. We stayed what was supposedly the busiest week of the season but by bringing all our essentials with us we never had to worry about traffic. A real relaxing and fun week. The owner does a great job in making sure you have a clean house with everything you need and they make themselves accessible. We won't even look at another house. Looking forward to our next stay.Recommended for: Sightseeing, girls getaway, families with young children, romantic getaway, families with teenagers.

Family Reunion We had 16, 8 adults and 8 Grandchidren. Fun In the Sun Is just that If you cannot have a good time here than you may as well stay home. Well equiped and plenty of sleeping accomodations to take care of all. Easy walk to a wonderful beach with life guards on duty. The extra's were the fact you also have privy to a private club for fitness and leisure. Duck Is a wonderful little town that gives you the opportunity to shop and enjoy some of Ducks fine resturants. A week was not enough to enjoy all that Duck and Fun In The Sun have to offer. Hey Mark! We had a wonderful Christmas week together and your "Fun in the Sun" home is absolutely fantastic... We had a blast! We got to use the REC center gym and facilities most every morning and very much enjoyed it’s large heated pool nearly every afternoon. The Schooner Ridge REC center facilities and heated pool offered us a terrific opportunity to visit with all our siblings, nieces and nephews. Thank you so much for allowing us to use your beautiful Christmas tree which had plenty of space under it for the little ones many Christmas presents … The children were shocked and overjoyed on Christmas morning! What joy it brought me to see everyone having such a blast together for our Christmas family reunion. Having a “Fun in the Sun” family Christmas together was pure joy!!! We sure hate to leave and hope to be back again real soon! Hey Mark and Kathy, We’ve been home for couple hours, and we’re already missing your place again! How incredibly lucky we were when we stumbled on your “Fun in the Sun” vacation home last year! My father-in-law is still walking around with that huge grin on his face … he just never thought I would ever be able to return to a place as wonderful as this again! Your vacation home was a hundred times more wonderful well equipped than we ever expected and the new kitchen level stainless steel wine and beverage center and KitchenAid ice maker was awesome after a long day at the beach! !!! We spent a ton of time at the beach - swimming, playing, fishing in the surf in the evenings we even caught a couple stingrays and saw a couple pods of dolphin! Afternoons and evenings in your pool/hot tub. The kids loved the REC center and the game room at your house and again Grandpa just adored watching us all have so much fun! Every night was a gathering on your upper Super deck with lots of talks, guitar playing, Scrabble, and always plenty of reminiscing of growing up and past vacations... Most mornings, the Dads loved taking advantage of working out in your Schooner Ridge REC center. It will be a lifelong memory for all of us! Our children even hooked up with a couple kids staying next door and spent lots of time with them. Lots of walks, time on the beach, didn't see him much after he met her, but that's what it's all about. We each had our own special memories and we can't wait to get back to share this with some other friends! Our last day there, we went off-roading on the beach, and crabbing... HOW SWEET!! We also saw a herd of horses down by water, the kids were blown away! We also saw many schools of dolphin this week as well! We are definitely interested in returning again for next year; we just wanted you to know how incredibly grateful we are for being able to have had this time! Your home truly has it all… It had some much space and decks for us to enjoy. The short walk down Schooner Ridge drive leaves you right in the heart of the town of Duck just across the street from the new Duck Park and soundside Boardwalk. About the owner: Lt Col Mark & Kathy Schmidt (An F-16C Fighter Pilot & USAF Lt Col) We and our family live in Midlothian, VA (Richmond suburbs). We have three grown sons and one young daughter and all love vacationing in the OBX. Our beach home 'Fun In the Sun' was designed perfectly. It easily accommodates our large extended family vacations together leaving everyone plenty of room to spread out and enjoy their vacation and the many beach activities we love sharing together as a family!
Why the Owner Chose Duck:
“Fun in the Sun” was perfect beach vacation home for us. This home had it all… with nearly 3800 sq.ft. of interior space to vacation and play in and over 3000 sq.ft. of party “Super decks” and Screen porch to enjoy we just loved it. “Fun in the Sun” is just a very short walk to the beach; and even closer to the community center and the walk down Schooner Ridge Drive leaves you right in the heart of Duck proper with all it’s wonderful shops and restaurants and Town of Duck park and soundside boardwalk. It seemed like they thought of nearly everything.
“Fun in the Sun” has a large beautiful pool, hot tub, gigantic “super” decks”, a private “Tiki” bar and the 14 x 22 Screened-in porch on the third floor which offers a terrific late-night refuge. The sea breeze and the night stars are so incredibly relaxing that I considered just sleeping there on the upper level private deck which is perfect for star gazing.
After looking at the many communities the Town of Duck in the OBX has to offer we decided that 'Fun In the Sun' in the Schooner Ridge community with all its amenities and accommodations, was the best place to best create our wonderful family memories which we know we will treasure for a life time!
We also love hearing from our guests and 'friends” who share with us their wonderful experiences and memories they've made enjoying their vacations in our home while discovering new ways to make their 'Fun in the Sun' Duck, NC vacations so special!
