Great Yosemite Getaway

Guest: BigR (Los Gatos, CA)
Date of Stay: 09/02/11 Review Submitted: 10/03/11

My wife and I and a friend spent a great weekend at this property in September. It was neat, clean, convenient to Yosemite Valley and had all of the listed amenities. The owners were very friendly and helpful. I had a mishap with my cooking which caused some damage to some pans and the stove and the owners were very diligent in keeping the repair costs low by doing the fixing and replacing themselves which kept the cost within the damage deposit. We look forward to returning this winter or spring to get a perspective of Yosemite from a different season.

Great home in a wonderful location!

My husband and I found this home to be exactly what we wanted (and needed) for a relaxing stay in Yosemite. Not only is it equidistant between the valley floor and Mariposa Grove, but you truly are able to leave the crowds behind and have a beautiful, peaceful spot at the end of the day. West Yellowstone is a neighborhood, with cabins built comfortably far apart. The view of the sunset from the deck is fantastic -- and there is even an old fire lookout station within easy walking distance. Debbie is a wonderful hostess and gave us great advice on prioritizing hikes. And there is a large selection of books, videos, and music -- along with a well-stocked kitchen. (We recommend grocery shopping at Trader Joe's in Fresno on the way in....). It was perfect for us and, with three bedrooms, it would be ideal for a family.

Owner response:Thank you for your gracious comments. For other readers, the reference to "Yellowstone" obviously should be to "Yosemite."

Yosemite chalet

Guest: Charles (San Francisco)
Date of Stay: 07/01/11 Review Submitted: 07/10/11

Very convenient home base to explore the valley, the beautiful hikes in the Glacier Point area, and Mariposa Grove. Yosemite West is a great location to stay and we'd definitely choose to stay here again for our next Yosemite trip. The Chalet was very cozy and had everything we needed. Beds were comfortable and the bathrooms were clean. Debby met us when we first arrived and nicely oriented us to the chalet.

Excellent winter getaway

Guest: Karen (Berkeley, CA)

The Chalet was the perfect place for our family to spend the holidays - cozy and well-located. Great layout for cooking big meals and chilling by the fireplace. The owners made us feel very welcome and kept us well stocked. We were lucky to get a lot of snow during our stay, so we took advantage of snowshoeing out the door and skiing at Badger Pass. We look forward to coming back again!

Perfect Yosemite vacation rental.

Well equipped, spotlessly clean, spacious vacation house. Perfectly situated within Yosemite for exploring and hiking. Being within the Park, certainly gives a head start on a day's trip out and is cosy and comfortable to return to.

Great Yosemite Cabin Away From the Crowds and Noise

Guest: Marge & Friends (Cape Coral, Fl & Sacramento, CA)
Date of Stay: 09/04/10 Review Submitted: 09/14/10

Our group of 4 friends stayed in the cabin for a long weekend in September 2010. The location is perfect for anyone who wants to stay within the park but be away from the crowds and the noise. Our hosts were helpful and attentive but never intrusive. The accommodations were clean and very comfortable for eating/cooking, sleeping, and relaxing. The kitchen is well stocked kitchen (including a dishwasher and microwave oven), and the beds are comfortable. The cabin is about 25 minutes from the hot and crowded valley floor. It’s location at 6,500 ft is several thousand feet in elevation ABOVE the valley floor … perfect for a great nights sleep with cooler nights and only the sounds of nature vs. noisy neighbors. The cabin is located conveniently near the junction of Glacier Point Road and Hwy 41, giving easy access to exceptional hiking along Glacier Point Road. A book can be found in the cabin that details the various hiking opportunities within the park. We took a late night ride to the nearby Glacier Point Lookout to gaze at the stars … definitely worth the ride. The cabin is very conveniently located midway between the valley floor, Glacier Point, and Wawona. Stock up on groceries and gas outside of the park. We very much enjoyed our stay and would recommend this rental to friends and family.

Visitors from Wisconsin

Guest: David and Family (Wisconsin)
Date of Stay: 08/17/10 Review Submitted: 08/29/10

Our family of 5 stayed here for a full week in August of 2010. The accomodations were clean, well stocked, and were plenty big for our family for eating/cooking, sleeping, or relaxing. In addition the a well stocked kitchen (including dishwasher and microwave oven) and comfortable beds, the house has a nice little library with books suitable for just about every reader as well as a small collection of movie titles for the VCR with is also in the home. Our hosts were helpful and attentive. The location of the house was perfect for us. We were only about 25 minutes from the hot and crowded valley floor (which we did NOT want to stay in ). The house is located several thousand feet in elevation ABOVE the valley floor, so it was MUCH cooler, and MUCH quieter than the valley. At night, there are absoloutly NO sounds to be heard except for nature. The house is located conveniently near the junction of Glacier Point Road and Hwy 41, giving easy access to exceptional hiking along Glacier Point Road. The house is about midway between the valley floor, Glacier Point, and Wawona. Stock up on groceries outside of the park.

serene and beautiful

Guest: Vivien (San Francisco)
Date of Stay: 05/08/10 Review Submitted: 07/25/10

My husband and I have stayed in the Chalet several times and have enjoyed the accomodations immensely. It is cooler in west yosemite, so after a long hike and wondering around the valley, which can get pretty hot, its wonderful to get back to a cool quiet place, away from tourists and noise. The house is clean, spacious, comfortable, well equipped with personal touches everywhere. In the winter, we also enjoy the wood stove, which makes the living room warm and cozy. There are lots of books and video tapes to keep one busy at night. but try to wonder out and gaze at the stars and the milky way that takes you to never never land. Its a total yosemite experience. So, I do recommend this wonderful chalet to anyone who is looking for a good value comfortable place to stay in yosemite.

Ideal place to stay

Guest: Susan (Cincinnati, OH)
Date of Stay: 07/10/10 Review Submitted: 07/18/10

Our family of 5 (kids ages 15, 12 and 8) stayed here for 4 days and thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it. Debbie met us outside as soon as we pulled in the driveway to show us around and give us some excellent visitors' tips. It was absolutely ideal to stay in Yosemite West, already inside the park, which gave us a huge jump on the crowds that flooded the valley each day. The photos very accurately reflected the rental's appearance but in no way conveyed the beauty and majesty of the granite peaks in Yosemite. So amazing that words cannot describe it and photos cannot capture it!! The house is about a mile from Glacier Point Road which took us to both Sentinel Dome and Glacier Point, both of which were not to be missed. Harry and Debbie were incredibly friendly, helpful and gracious hosts. We have rented through vrbo many times and this was by far our best experience. We would definitely recommend this rental to anyone who wants to be in a house as close as possibly to the valley floor. We can't wait to go back and would rent here again for sure!!

The perfect place to stay when visiting Yosemite.

Guest: Al (Maryland)

This house is located very close to Glacier Point, just a short drive from the valley. The neighborhood is very quite and the owners are wonderful people. The house is fully stocked with everything you need; it’s the perfect place to stay. Hiking trails right in the neighborhood, check out the sunset from the fire tower. I’ve rented this place two years in a row and can’t wait to get back.
