AspenEyes, the name of our property, says it all. The 22-acre estate is filled with healthy evergreen spruce, pine, and fir trees; but the soul of the property is captured in the "eyes" of every Aspen tree on the property. Is this where souls go to rest before their next calling to Life?
Everyone who enters our house immediately feels at home and comfortable. It is people- and pet-friendly. The warm woods and huge wood-burning fireplace greet you into the Great Room, where you might wish to sit to ponder Life and the Great Outdoors (as you stare out the floor-to-roofline picture window) . . . or perhaps ponder the next day's mountain hike, alpine or x-country skiing, snowmobiling, bicycle ride, rafting, fly fishing, mountain climbing, or . . . that's the problem: There are too many things you'll want to do.
There are two canoes (with paddles, etc.) available to you; two road bicycles (you may have to pump in some air to the tires); plus fly-fishing equipment for two.
If it is winter, you will need a vehicle with 4-wheel drive to ensure your ability to get up the 1/3 mile private and gated drive to the house. Winter snowplowing is provided, as is year-round weekly garbage pick-up.
If you're considering summer, do not be put off by the lack of air conditioning at the house. You never need it. The elevation of 9,250 feet plus being surrounded by evergreens and aspen trees, the "quaking aspen" leaves keep the breezes flowing.
The property is bound by national forest on three sides -- it is the home of wildlife. Feeding the birds (or other critters) is Strongly Discouraged. If you do, you endanger the lives of those who follow your footprint. Even if you do not feed the wildlife, you must know there are coyotes, fox, porcupine, deer, elk, and --yes, the occasional bear -- that traverse the property from time to time. Small children and small pets MUST be kept under the supervision of an adult at all times. Further, Aspen was a silver mining town in the late 1800s. There are unused and open silver mines very near our property. Wandering into the woods alone is discouraged.
All that said, you will enjoy our property for its privacy and quiet (you'll probably hear the roar of the Castle Creek waters across the way in the springtime and summer). You will also enjoy the comfort of a home that is a home . . . Sit on the sofa in front of the roaring fire and enjoy the view of Mount Hayden out the window. When you finally retire to the large master suite, gaze out the windows at the Big Dipper and Milky Way . . . Be sure to bring your blinders, because the arc of the moon may well bring in more moonbeams than you could ever think possible.
There are two master suites with king-sized beds and full baths. Both masters also have private sitting decks. The "guest master" on the northwestern side of the house is the best side for summer sunsets. An additional room, the "Fiji Room" (so named for the artifacts from our Fiji honeymoon) has a double bed and separate bath. The fourth bedroom, named "the kids' room (for the grandchildren, in our case) has two twin beds with its own bath. Both the Fiji and Kids' Rooms have beautiful views of the mountain and national forest at the back of the house.
In essence, the house is built as a "hunting lodge" (but we do not allow hunting). The concept is that all of the living quarters extend off a main "communal" living area. The house's tall wood beams, giant stone fireplace, and massive open living areas hug you like a loving grandparent.
The center of the town of Aspen is 9 miles down the (mountain) road. The Aspen Valley Hospital with its highly rated emergency room is at the base of our road. Aspen is an internationally-reknown ski resort most loved for -- are you ready? -- its summers. The Food & Wine Festival begins in June, followed by the Fourth of July Parade & Fireworks, plus the Aspen Music Festival. Fall comes along quickly with the leaves turning gold in mid-September. Tour the Ghost towns of Ashcroft and Independence, or historic Aspen. Add Aspen's live theatre and wonderful restaurants to make your visit even more memorable.
Come . . . stay in our home for some "peace of soul" time. There is so much for you to do in the valley that we humans call our own -- but know that we are all just "borrowing" it for a short time. Go biking, hiking, fishing, or just stare out the window -- and regain Your Self.
You'll be very glad you did! |
