Amazing Vacation

Guest: Jeanne K.
Date of Stay: 03/30/12 Review Submitted: 04/16/12

Wow, where to start! Your home exceeded our expectations, all the photos in the world do not do it justice. As much as the description of the property was pretty accurate, the property still blew us away when we saw it in person. The view from the patio was spectacular; better than what you would see on a post card. Lounging around the pool and hot tub with such a view was so relaxing. Although the house is located in a neighborhood, we were very secluded on your property. The lush greenery provided all the privacy one could desire. The house itself was amazing. The kitchen was beautifully designed and had everything that a fine cook would need to cook a gourmet meal. Having the dining right there attached to the kitchen area was so nice for our family to spend so much time together. The bedrooms were very nice and comfortable without ever using the A/C. We found all of the beds comfortable, and the bathrooms were stocked with plenty of towels and all the accessories necessary. We used the chairs and umbrellas provided for our time at the beach; which was much appreciated. We were a family of seven adults and we found that there were enough chairs, towels, etc. to accommodate all of us. We did see the sunset over the Haleakala Crater and got amazing photos. We also took the "Road to Hana"; a must have experience. The road is not for the faint of heart, though. We went down to Secret Beach one moring to watch the dolphins at play. We tried the Monkey Pod Restaurant, a fairly new restaurant that was recommended by the caretakers. We had a great experience there; good food, good drinks, and good service. We also had lunch one dat at Tommy Bahamas at the shopping center. We sat out on the deck and enjoyed their fish tacos. Another good experience. Shopping at The Shops at Wailea was also a treat. There is quite a variety of stores to brouse through, and it was pretty impossible not to find something to purchase. We found great gifts to bring back to friends and grandchildren. We had the most wonderful vacation; things could not have been better. Our son got engaged on 3/31/12, my husband's 70th birthday on the beach during the luau at the Grand Wailea as the sun was setting. Could not have asked for a better celebration! This was our first visit to Maui, but after our experience in your home, we will definitely will be returning for another vacation. And we would not consider staying any place else! Beautiful home in an excellent location accurately depicted by photos. The property was clean and well maintained. Linens, towels, utensils, plates, glasses, and kitchen items were all first class, above and beyond expectations. Excellent communication with owner. Caretaker in adjacent home, pleasant to deal with and very helpful. Would highly recommend to others and would certainly consider returning.

What an incredible home!

Well, here I am four weeks later providing my feedback regarding this incredible South Maui home. I really did not want to leave. Our 7 night stay was beyond fantastic. Thank you very much. A little background here: we are Maui regulars. My inlaws live "upcountry" and this was my 15th visit in the past 19 years. I am not a local haole, per se, but my frequent visits allow me (via my wife) to see and feel the islands just like she did growing up here as a "kid". I/we have combed about every inch of this island. We have stayed with family plenty of times, but on this very special occasion in which we hosted some cousins that had never visited Hawaii before, we did major research on where we wanted to stay on Maui AND what type of home we wanted to stay in. *My suggestion for any island that you visit is to list what you want to do on that island and then find which accomodations will help you make that a reality. We wanted a killer house near the water with a pool...We scored! Without hesitation, this is THE BEST house that we've ever rented in Maui. Period. And, we've rented some great houses over the years. Nani Pulelehua is perfectly set on a small sloping hill just above the upper Kihei highway. The elevation is ideal so that you can see the water and sunsets and neighboring islands and Haleakala and Makena/La Perouse and Wailea right out the back lanais and balconies! This home is located in a great neighborhood and everything you need is 5-10 minutes away at best. The wonderful innkeepers will guide you with anything you need....I promise. The home itself is incredible. The Owner, being an Architect, built this house to afford the scenic views as well as offer an enormous living space. The breezes from Haleakala come through the louvered shutters, huge windows showcase the big Pacific...but the home still feels very private. The bedrooms are exquisite and tastefully designed, the beds are very comfortable, the showers and bathrooms ridiculously nice! Good luck deciding who gets the Master Bedroom! We found the gourmet kitchen to be the absolute perfect spot for each meal. You could feed a small army in there on the massive countertops. The kitchen had everything you desire to cook and entertain; huge refrig + pantry, pots and pans, a double stove/oven, dishes galore.....bbq outside by the pool. Overall, THE BEST! You will see us again soon. Aloha.

the best vacation rental i have ever stayed in...

I travel a lot, and i've definitely rented my fair share of vacation properties, but I can say unequivocally that nane pulelehua was far and away the closest i've come to staying in the perfect place. from the impeccable views on the hill overlooking the ocean, to the flawless overall design of the house....from the gorgeous pool and patio area, to the wealth of amenities both inside and out...from the impeccable location to the welcoming hospitality of the property's caretakers (and parents of the owner!)...there was literally NOTHING i could have changed to make our stay there more memorable and enjoyable. i'm counting the days until i return, as i KNOW staying at this gorgeous home will be a long-standing tradition if i have my way.

Simply put - any description of this property (pictures, words) will not do it justice. Unbelievable home... Gorgeous setting... Having been to Maui before (and with plans to return again), I'd be hard-pressed not to want to rent this property again. If you are considering this rental, do yourself a favor and firm the commitment today. You will not be disappointed!

Congrats again to very talented and design savvy owners for creating and sharing this beautiful home. After seven days, my family and I all were amazed at the quality (and value) of this rental property. Between the toys (we only used 3 of the 6 tv's :) inside and outside (thanks for beach gear and kayak) and the fully applianced kitchen, there was plenty to keep folks "busy". Yet, despite its ammeneties and luxury we all felt very much at home. Very quiet and peaceful at night with breathtaking 180 degree views of the ocean and sky. You can even see the many whales playing in the distance! And the sunsets by the pool--ridiculous!!!

My family and I recently returned from a 10 day stay at the “Beautiful Butterfly” in Maui. There were 10 of us, ranging in age from 12 to 70 years old. To a person, each has stated that they had the best vacation ever. The home is spacious enough to accommodate gathering the entire family together, yet also provides enough privacy to steal away for an afternoon nap. The pool and hot tub area are even more amazing than the photos suggest. Sunsets are not to be missed. Every amenity is provided for. Every design feature in the house is extremely well thought out. You will marvel at the quality of the finishes. You can walk to the beach and Shops at Wailea, but probably better for the older folks to take a car as the walk back to the house is mostly uphill and can be tiresome, especially in the hot sun. You’ll end up wanting to spend most of your time at the house, around the pool, cooking on the bbq and just enjoying each other’s company. Can’t wait to return some day!

A HOME WITHOUT EQUAL

Guest: HENRYG (LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA )
Date of Stay: 07/11/09 Review Submitted: 09/10/09

I have read all of the reviews posted here, and every single one of them is true, and complete, so it is difficult to feel I have anything to add here . . . but I'll try. The word that sums up my family's time at The Butterfly House is "MAGIC"! Yes, the architecture is perfect, the setting beyond your wildest imagination and the location more convenient than you could hope for, but when you walk through the door, and go from room to room, from inside to outside, from upstairs to downstairs, what you feel is serenity and grace. You are instantly home, for however long you have the good fortune to stay there. We were a family of 6, and no matter what each of us did during the day in Maui, we all looked forward to coming back to the house at night, watching the sunset and reconnecting -- this house, this space invites closeness and interaction, and yet is designed in such a way that we could each escape to our own private corner of paradise. Let me add, for what it is worth, we have been coming to Maui almost every year over the last 20 years: we have stayed in houses, condos, hotels, cottages, and some structures that defy a label. This house and the experience we had staying here provided an absolute once-in-a-lifetime vacation that none of us will ever forget -- we all still talk about it almost every day, and we've already been home 2 months! That is the kind of impression you are left with when you leave. If you find yourself in a position where you are able to afford this level of luxury and comfort, or if like me, you saved up almost a year to have this ultimate Maui vacation, my advice: DO IT! Stop thinking, start planning and start packing for a retreat that will change the rest of your life. We did, and I will never forget or regret my decision. Thank you for sharing this architectural masterpiece with us. You gave us MAGIC, and we can't put a price on that.

Best Ever

Date of Stay: 07/03/09 Review Submitted: 07/16/09

This was our sixth trip to the islands, and our fifth to Maui. We have stayed in resorts, condos, and two other rental houses, but this one tops them all. The house was spacious, well designed, and the flow-through ventilation was superior. The house has air-conditioning, but because of the cross-ventilation it was seldom needed. The kitchen was well equipped and large enough for all eight of us to gather in. There are two master suites, one upstairs and one downstairs, and two other bedrooms which share a bath. As an architect myself, I really appreciated the attention to detail and quality of construction contained in this house. The infinity edge pool and outdoor kitchen was an outstanding area to relax and watch the wonderful Maui sunsets. The pool has a large "beach area" which is relatively shallow and was a great place for our small granddaughter to play. The house is located in a neighborhood, but because of the way it is located on the site, it affords complete privacy. It is also high enough on the side of the hill to have terrific views of the ocean and adjacent islands, but is just a five minute drive from Keawakapu Beach, one of the nicest beaches on the island. We've found our home on Maui!

We can never go back to Maui again and stay anywhere else! Nani Pulelehua is truly an exceptional property. We had a dream vacation. The home goes 'above and beyond' one's expectations...from the wonderful views, infinity pool/hot tub/outdoor eating area to a beautifully decorated interior. We were two families on holiday together - who found the property ideally situated from the best beaches in Maui (our best - Big Beach and Makena - swimming with the turtles!), great shopping for the girls, lots of golf courses and close to grocery stores. What a treat it was to cook in a state of the art kitchen - WOW to the HUGE granite kitchen/dining room table. Plenty of room for everyone to help out, relax, find a quiet spot. We would not hesitate to recommend this property to friends. Thank you once again for such a wonderful holiday in your 'beautiful butterfly'.

It's already been a month that we are back from our dream vacations and if I close my eyes I can easily go back to the calm feeling that enveloped me when early in the morning I sat outside the house, reading a good book, sipping my cup of coffee while birds were singing ..... I can easily speak for the 4 of us if I say that we had the vacation of a lifetime and that your splendid house was at the center of it. We really enjoyed all the activities we did on Maui (kayak, snorkling, luau, Hana highway, Molokini, beach, Ioa needle) but going back to the house was always the highlight of our day. It was the first time we were renting a house and looking at the picture on the Internet, we really felt the house was great, but walking in, we could not help holding our breath and just admire the work, the decoration of each rooms and all the details that had been thought of to make sure that anythink we could think of was there (even ipod speaker, WOW!). The pool and the jacuzzi were the best way to end a day after a nice dinner prepared in an amazing kitchen! We now only hope to be able to go back but from now on, any vacations will be measure in comparaison with our week at Nani Pulelehua!

Butterfly House provides a perfect vacation

Date of Stay: 09/23/08 Review Submitted: 11/22/08

From our first views of the property to those last glances at the ocean, our family vacation was perfect in every way. The house is spacious enough for each family member to have his or her own space, as well as many opportunities to enjoy family, swimming, meals and relaxation together. On line description of the property is accurate, the location is ideal for enjoying a wide range of island activities, and the house is comfortable - well designed and obviously decorated with loving care. Furnishings are of the highest quality, well cared for and clean. Our family enjoyed, eating at Wailea Village, Roys and Seawatch Restaurants. Some went snorkeling, enjoyed the turtles, took surfing lessons, lounged on the beaches or went golfing. Others enjoyed the spa at Wailea and message close to home. All savored every moment in the pool and hot tub. Views of the ocean, lush gardens and spectacular sunsets are fond memories now though the opportunity to return is ever present.

From the moment we walked through the door we realized this house was something very special. It's rare to find anything online these days that actually turns out to be better than the pictures portray. No detail has been overlooked and everything is of the highest quality. From the infinity salt water pool and Jacuzzi with it's amazing view, to the fantastic beds with incredible sheets, everything is just perfect. The Kitchen is amazing the bathrooms are beautifully appointed, and the living spaces are just perfect. The beaches in Maui are wonderful and there's so much to do, the house is in a great location 2 minutes away from great beaches and restaurants, but I have to admit we found ourselves looking forward to coming home and just relaxing by the pool and watching the sunsets. I spent weeks looking at different houses to rent on Maui and I wouldn't hesitate to say that in this price range you're not going to find anything that's close to this. It's a very special home, and the only downside is that at some point you're going to have to leave! Michael Seattle WA

This home is one of the best designed and stunning homes I have ever seen. The home is beautifully sited, intelligently laid out, and the materials and finishes in the home are great. The view from the infinity pool and large jacuzzi is extraordinary. The attention to detail is evident throughout the house. Moreover, the furnishings and personal touches make it especially inviting and comfortable. The home is fully equipped with every possible convenience and amenity you would need during your stay. The home is just minutes from the resorts at Wailea. You'll find it very difficult to leave this house; it is incredibly relaxing and comfortable.

Wow, my husband and I were so impressed with the gorgeous architecture, the amazing views and all the high-end amenities. The edgeless pool is a dream come true and the spa is perfect for watching sunsets. You can also cook on a top of the line grill outside with a full outside kitchen and dining area too. Maui is so beautiful of course too, but it is hard to leave the house because with the views and details of the house, there is really no reason to leave. The kitchen is fully loaded and set up with the perfect design. As you cook, you can look out into the ocean. Each room has a plasma tv and an ipod doc with ultra comfortable beds and linens. Everything you could ever want!

This was hands down the best vacation we have ever been on! The minute you drive up the street and see this house you are in awe. The woodwork and architecture of the home is stunning. Everything in the house is top of the line, and you really feel like you are living in luxury. My husband and I had the master bedroom, and we woke up every morning to the sunrise and water view through our windows. We have never slept better. The group we had stay there with us was so impressed with everything that they are already talking about going back for our one year anniversary. I can't imagine finding a better place to stay while you are in Maui!!

Me and my wife, along with two other couples rented the Nani in early March of 2008 and i can honestly say it was the most amazing vacation experience we've ever had! When we arrived at the property from the airport our jaws dropped—it was a castle perched on a hill that looked like something straight out of an architectural magazine. from the street, i could already tell the place was special, but when we walked in the front door, our group was speechless. The views are incredible and you can take in all the beauty from every area in the house. We all jumped straight in the pool which and tried to grasp the fact that we were going to be at this amazing place for a whole week! The pool makes any hotel pool we've ever been to pale in comparison. Anyway, from the kitchen to the bedrooms, everything was perfectly appointed and we could not have been happier. Leaving was the hard part, but we'll be back, we're actually counting the days to when we can return to our island castle!

Our extended family spent 10 days at Nani Pulelehua in late January, early February--8 of us agree that the house was absolutely amazing. My son-in-law took pictures hoping to perhaps incorporate some of the ideas into his own house. The property was even better than described and Ed and Sybilla were more than accomodating--special little touches to help celebrate a birthday and a welcoming fruit bowl--thank you both!!! We would definitely recommend this property to anyone who wanted to visit Maui-- unless they wanted to go during the time we would like to book next time and we are definitely going to want to go again!!!! Having a masseur next door was cool--he came over and did massages without us having to even leave the house. The beautiful beaches were very close but we enjoyed the pool and hot tub so much that we probably didn't go to the beach as much as we thought we would. The whole pool area was just like a part of the house and we practically lived in our swim suits and ate a lot of our meals on the patio--the kitchen was so wonderful that we actually did not eat out as much as we normally do on vacation. I hate to gush but I am going to--I can't say enough to praise every aspect of our experience at Beautiful Butterfly. Thank you Lynda and Kelly and Tim and Maddie and the rest of the gang.

The kids loved the infiniti pool, the ipod stations, the plasma tvs and the xbox. We all had a well needed relaxing family vacation. We were able to rest on the comfortable beds and get to the beautiful beaches conveniently located nearby. My husband got to do some work thanks to the high speed wireless connection. Imagine being able to use your laptop in any room of the house!! I have already recommended this home to many friends and family members. I hope its not booked up for our next vacation.
